35f SW: 230lbs CW: 230lbs GW: 150lbs 5’7” Hi all, this is my first time posting after years of lurking and I’m a little nervous. I‘ve seemingly been on a diet ever since I was 11 years old, managing to lose 10, 20 or sometimes 30 pounds but never being able to keep it off for more than a year. The last time I lost weight was in 2018, I lost 30 pounds over 6 months through eating 1200 calories per day and not exercising. Then it was like a switch was flipped and suddenly I lost all motivation and drive and it all came back.
In the fall of last year I decided to try to focus on diet AND exercise so I joined a CrossFit community, got into some martial arts classes and was consuming 1400 calories with a focus of getting 80-100g of protein a day. I worked out probably 4-5 days a week. But literally nothing changed- no weight loss, no changes in the way my clothes fit, no measurement changes, nothing. This went on for almost 6 months and then Covid. My doctor wants to put me on weight loss medication but it’s so expensive and my insurance won’t cover it.
I’m worried that it’s at the point where I’ve damaged my body and that I can’t lose weight without extreme measures. Has anyone else experienced something similar and gotten through it? Was I doing something wrong these past 6 months that explains the lack of progress? I understand that muscles will retain water when starting a new program, but I was under the impression that it would last only a few weeks, not months.
I’m feeling hopeless with the situation. I just don’t know if I can tolerate living like this for the rest of my life, it inhibits so many things that I want to do and it is taking a big toll on my physical and mental health. Any advice or encouragement is very welcome!
