I frequently check the calories on food packages out of curiosity, and earlier this month decided, hey, I like keeping track of things. Why not download a calorie counting app? I could definitely stand to be healthier. The one I went with happens to share a name with this sub, and had me input my age, height, weight, and a goal weight (35, 6’2”, 357, 250). Fair enough.
It also asked questions about, like… my attitude going into this, and my goals I think, maybe to decide whether I was up to more difficult plans? Based on all that, it decided to put me on the most vigorous of its four plans, which supposedly has me losing two pounds a week. All well and good… but the actual goal it gives me every day seems kinda easy?
Like, this is today. I had a good lunch, had a good dinner… and I still have room for a thousand-calorie “snack” if I want? This isn’t even factoring in exercise. I usually walk my dog for an hour each night (about 1.7 miles, which I’m doing as I type this), and I’m probably going to do some swimming when we get home.
I’ve never tried any kind of weight loss before, and have no idea what my resting rate of burning calories is… but is this really all there is to it? Do I already sorta-kinda have a few healthy habits, and have just been held back by sugar consumption? Or does this app have no idea what it’s talking about?
