Hello! We're the friendly mod team for r/loseit and r/progresspics! When we began our new push to schedule interesting AMAs for r/loseit, we discussed wanting to do a mod AMA. After having added three new moderators to the team, we decided that now was a good time to allow the community to get to know us a little better. The subreddit has also grown significantly over the past year - if you haven't noticed, r/loseit now has over a million subscribers!
You're welcome to ask us about weight loss, moderating the subreddit, and our personal experiences (within reason.) All r/loseit rules still apply during the AMA. If you have questions about a specific moderation action (for example, your post being deleted or a temporary ban), please contact us using modmail.
Please continue to report things that violate the rules. We can't catch everything and want to thank the community for working together to keep this subreddit as pleasant as possible.
If you have a question for a specific member of the team, feel free to tag them in your comment directly. Please know that not all members of our team may be available for the entirety of the AMA, but we will do our best to respond to the questions.
And now, here's our team bios, ordered by length of time as a r/loseit mod:
u/denovosibi is r/loseit's most senior mod.
u/hxcjosh23 Josh here! I'm on year 4 of my weight loss journey. In the first 2 years, my lifestyle changes brought on a love for running and meal prepping! This also brought a 130lb lost with those changes! The last two years have been maintaining between 230-250. I'm 27, have 3 children ages 3 and under, and switched careers from the IT field to resturant management last year. My ultimate goal is 180 or less and with the birth of my new child, I'm recommited to hitting it!
u/BugZwugZ I started lurking /r/loseit in late 2015, and actively started posting in 2016. I lost a total of 140lbs, and have been maintaining that weight loss for about a year. I was attending college for criminal justice, but got lured into the growing asbestos abatement field, which I am a licensed supervisor in. I typically browse /r/loseit in the early morning hours, and attempt to catch the unanswered questions from the night before. My favorite part of /r/loseit is being able to help people that I'd otherwise probably never have the privilege of meeting outside of the internet.
u/TheVillageOxymoron I’m your neighborhood social media mod! I found r/loseit when my first kid turned 2 and I realized that I weighed more than what I had weighed when I was 9 months pregnant. I managed to lose 40 lbs right before getting pregnant again. I am currently 3 months postpartum, 30 lbs down from my pregnancy weight and 35 lbs away from my ultimate goal weight.
u/ThatCanadianGuy88 One of the larger fellows of the globe I started my journey just shy of 500 pounds before working over 2 years to take off 205 pounds and hit the lowest weight of my adult life. I am now 2 1/2 years into my journey and after putting back on about 30 pounds I have managed to take off 15 again and am working back towards my lowest weight. I have no idea where my goal weight will end up but I am getting there one day at a time. I like to blog about my journey and help people as much as possible on their journey no matter what stage they find themselves in.
u/fluffstermcmuffin Hello everyone I'm u/fluffstermcmuffin! I'm in my 30's, married with 2 kids under the age of 10 and a 70lb nine month old puppy. I've lost 100lbs and I've maintained it for over a year now, usually fluctuating between 110-117lbs. I was going through a very difficult period of life when I decided to take on losing weight. I was depressed, overwhelmed with everything and pretty mad at the world. Sometimes I still am, but for the most part I'm in a much better place now. I still continue to work on self improvement every day. I am a bit of a nightowl so I am typically most active on the sub between 9pm - 2am. Though I do a fair amount of browsing during my office hours as well.
u/maidrey I've lost 50 pounds over the past fourteen months. Since last December, I have struggled with a knee tumor limiting my ability to exercise, which required me to focus entirely on my caloric consumption in order to lose weight. I recently had open surgery to remove the tumor and I can't wait to get off crutches so that I can get back to HIIT and aerial dance classes. I love to cook and meal prep, and I own over 300 board games. I'm also the lead on the mod team for AMA scheduling and outreach.
u/ClaytonRayG I wandered in here one day and they haven't kicked me out yet. I've lost 170lbs so far with 30lbs left to go until I reevaluate my goal; recently entered Onederland for the first time since I was 12yo which is nice. At the age of 30, I seem to run on puns and coffee. I play video games, am a fan of Star Trek, enjoy a good beer, and am currently grinding xp towards a 10K. You won't see me too active in threads as I'm more of a backend mod.
u/Blueskiesbrowneyes is our first UK based mod - and given the time she's probably asleep. If you have any specific questions for her, there may be a delay.
u/CathanRegali I am a gay, millennial librarian. My weight loss journey has been a bit of a battle, but I'm currently at 99 pounds lost with only a few to go before I reach the goal I set four and a half years ago. I game, I run, and I approach life by fixing all the problems (stress management, personal finance, time management, etc.) not just weight. I've dealt with intolerant loved ones, hostile work environments, education setbacks, and the scale. I still eat fried chicken and pizza. AMA
u/Pyrite_Pirate I am a 21-year-old kid working at the college I attend. I spend most of my free time playing video games (favorites being FFXIV, Hearthstone, and Street Fighter) and watching anime. I lost 70 lbs starting out and now usually fluctuate between 150-180 depending on what I'm trying to accomplish in the gym.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is the search function/flairs/other feature broken? Because Reddit. u/ClaytonRayG is tirelessly working to fix all the ways in which reddit breaks and the redesign changes our formatting, and he has a long list of things that he's working on. When you experience a bug, feel free to shoot us a modmail with info on the problem, but we can't guarantee that the fix won't be more complicated or time consuming than we would like, particularly when issues have to do with how a specific app uses a feature. u/ClaytonRayG takes the lead on all of the backend issues like fixing flairs, the r/progresspics search function, fighting with AutoMod, etc. For AutoMod, the beatings will continue until moral improves.
Why don't you sticky xxx post longer? Because Reddit. In all seriousness, we have attempted to get an answer out of the admin team why we can't have more than two stickied posts at any time, and have never been able to hear why. Yes, we realize that even just a third sticky would help a ton, but unfortunately that just isn't currently possible.
We will begin answering questions at 5 pm EDT. We look forward to your questions!
