Slow going - but going strong.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this subreddit but I've been on my current diet since late December. I started at 182 pounds as a 5'3" woman. This has been my most successful diet ever so far in terms of how long it's been going and the kind of momentum it has. As opposed to starting with some very intense diet and having it deteriorate week by week, this time my diet and exercise routine were built up over months. When my diet started, I was just trying not to snack late at night, watch my portion sizes more closely, and cut out some of my weaknesses like baking chocolate chip cookies. Today I weigh 162 pounds, which was an important milestone for me because I could finally say I lost 20 pounds and also because I was finally out of the obese category and down into the overweight one.

I'm really grateful for the progress I've made so far and for being able to maintain this diet and I know that if I keep this up, I will eventually hit my goal weight (120 lbs.) That said, I sometimes get a little frustrated because my routine now is pretty extreme, at least for me. I've made changes week by week, one more little sacrifice, and currently, I do 30 minutes of cardio every day, at least 20 squats per day, and try to add in one more physical activity every day like playing beat saber or walking the dogs or working in the yard. I also only eat one large meal per day. I would call the other two snacks. By large meal, I mean a meal over 500 calories. So for example, my food in a day can look like this:

breakfast: 1 cup of kefir

morning snack: mango

lunch: a bowl of pasta with broccoli and peas (estimated at 800 calories)

evening snack: cherry tomatoes and very few slices of cheese (estimated 200 calories)

And I have kept up this routine a long time. I like my routine. I'm not looking for the finish line so I can stop working out or dieting. I'm happy to maintain this. What I'm not as thrilled about is how slowly I've been losing weight with this routine. It just feels like I earn a gold star each night but then I step on the scale and I'm losing a pound every like 2 weeks. The math just doesn't seem right. I only drink water, too. There are no other calories coming from anywhere. This can be especially infuriating when my husband decides he'll work out a bit or cut down food a bit, makes a tiny fraction of the effort I make and only for a few days or a week, nothing like the time and dedication I have put in to this, and he will just drop 5 pounds in a week while eating peanut butter by the spoonful as a snack at 11 pm. It's very frustrating...

Anyway I needed to vent and I would really appreciate any encouraging words. Have you felt like the math just isn't playing out right in your diet? Or have you gotten "stuck" at certain weights or felt like your lifestyle is not being reflected on the scale? I would love to hear your own personal experiences or any advice you have! Sorry if this sounded whiny. I am really glad it's working and I'm so excited to keep going and I'm looking forward to being part of this community. I was hoping to come out of lockdown and blow people away with my weight loss but at this pace it won't be so shocking and I know that's really stupid but I just wanted to share with people who will understand.
