WHY can’t I outrun a bad diet?

This sentiment doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Initially, I lost weight by just increasing my exercise and didn’t change my eating. Now, if I want to eat more that day or I know I’m going out for dinner or whatever, I do extra exercise and burn the calories equivalent to what I want to eat. I have been consistently losing weight by doing that for months.

I don’t really understand why there’s so many people arguing that exercise isn’t that important in weight loss and that you shouldn’t eat back your exercise calories. When I don’t eat them back, I feel dizzy and exhausted. When I do eat them back, I sometimes eat more than 2000 in one day and still manage to lose weight that week (obviously if I’ve burned them off through exercise).

I feel like it’s much more sustainable for me personally. I much prefer losing weight this way rather than heavily restricting my diet. I enjoy being active and I enjoy that I can have more food when I’m active. So, why the negative association with exercising not being effective and eating back calories etc?
