I came across this post today. The TL;DR is that OP believes that most people can “do nothing and eat whatever and still be lean. Other people can do everything and eat nothing and still be overweight”. And that she finds herself in the latter and it sucks but it’s worth it.
It got me thinking that I don’t agree. I don’t wish to bring any hate on Cassey Ho, I’ve loved her content for many years.
But I really used to believe that I was one of those people with cursed genes. Both my parents are obese; therefore, I am doomed to be obese. I “tried” exercising and crash diets for weight loss in the past and only ended up gaining more. Back in April I began counting calories and keeping a very reasonable deficit and I lost 30lbs in 3 months, going from obese to overweight (yay!). The loss has since slowed due to a bunch of reasons including taking a bit of a break and just maintaining but it’s still going in the right direction. I was amazed it really wasn’t about turning my life upside down. It just took small efforts every day.
I want to know what you think. How much does metabolism REALLY change from person to person? Do some people truly have to work way harder vs others who do nothing?
Disclaimer: please don’t bring obvious medical issues into this. Of course medical issues can affect weight loss. This more pertains to people that are generally healthy, so we can fairly compare weight loss patterns.
