New perspectives on my weight loss journey required!

Happy Saturday folks,

I hope this day finds you well.

My weight loss goal is to achieve 8% body fat. I am a 28M, 88kgs, 22% body fat currently. Based on a daily 500 calorie deficit I should reach my goal by the 27 Mar 19.

My weight loss journey so far has been the following;

Each year for the last 3 years I've been going through the following phases

(1) Start weight loss journey on the 01st January as a new year resolutioner with a weight loss goal of 8% body fat

(2) Wear a calorie monitor (in my case a Garmin Forerunner 235)

(3) Religiously track calories taken in every day

(4) Eat typical healthy meals to get minimum nutrient requirements, eat remaining calories permitted based on calorie expenditure in the form of chocolate - my food love

(5) Commute by bike where possible, 5 days a week of the atlas weight routine, and dance (I love to dance)

(6) Weigh myself and measure body fat % weekly

(7) See progress for 6 months and inexplicably binge eat until back at square 1 (I can't answer why I scuppered everything but thems the breaks)

(8) Repeat again in the new year

For 2018 I started again on the 01st January with a goal of getting to 8% body fat by the 12thJan19 based on a daily 500 calorie deficit and I swear I've been tracking my calorie burn (using the Garmin watch) and calorie intake by habit as of today the 08th September. I'm proud of myself for having stuck to my plan this far. However I've plateaued at approximatley 88 kilograms and 22% body fat for the last month now and don't see my body image visibly improving in the mirror.

I've had a long sit with myself this weekend and have come to the conclusion that my heart rate monitor is overestimating my calorie burn and I have to suck it up and use the TDEE calculator on this thread. Currently the thread is saying that my calorie intake is 2100 calories / day - for comparison the watch was saying around 3500 on a day of cycling to work and doing a gym workout.

The drop in calorie intake required is a mental challenge as I have a sweet tooth and liked the comfort of knowing that if I did something I loved such as dance in a given day I could treat myself to some chocolate while still sticking to the 500 calorie daily deficit. Without this chocolate comfort I will have to soldier on.

I'm going with keto as it will provide the protein I need on a low calorie intake and if what they say is true my black hole of an appetite should be suppressed.

I suppose I wrote this to for the following reasons;

(1) to draw my line in the sand and progress towards a brighter future.

(2) document my thoughts on dietiing

(3) I want to know what ye think of the above - I'm open to all opinions and constructive criticism

(4) Where is there a weight loss diary on reddit - I inadvertently uploaded a daily diary when I was part of a weight loss group (My love goes out to r/team_bravest_hobbit on the r/loseit summer weight loss challenge a few weeks ago) and it helped keep myself honest and supported me.

Party on,

Jonathan.
