hey guys!
let me give a little bit of a background: i’m 18F, sitting at around 155lbs (down from my highest weight which was 184 a year ago)! i’ve managed over the span of a year to lose 35lbs, but gained back 5 while being completely sedentary at home for first year university, but there’s another aspect to this reason as well;
over quarantine/summertime, i began working out at home doing p90x. i’ll keep this story short, since it’s super long. basically, one day i woke up and was unable to walk bc of such bad pain in my left knee (i had an acl and meniscus reconstruction back in 2015). went to physio, got a brace, and the pain went away. now it’s back, but chronic, and in both knees. over the span of the last SIX MONTHS i’ve had an x-ray, mri, and bone scan done to try and figure out what’s wrong with both my knees, and they’re unable to figure it out. the sports doc tried putting me on heavy anti-inflammatories twice a day for the pain, but i’m 18, and want to FIX my knee pain instead of just masking it with medication, so i refused to take it.
anyways, i went to my physio again and explained how all my tests came back perfectly fine, and he suggested we try taping my knees. low and behold, it’s working (for the most part), and i have little to no pain anymore. he said he thinks it’s a kneecap issue (you would think that the actual doctor could figure out something as simple as that), and that in a few months of strengthening and taping my knees i should be back to normal.
and here we are today. i still have my knee pain, and i have a few basic exercises that i need to work on over the next month and a half until i see my physiotherapist again. but i want to continue my weight loss journey, and i have a goal of losing another 20lbs hopefully by around april/may. my issue is that i’ve relied heavily on exercise to lose weight in the past, and now that i’m extremely limited, i need to work on my eating habits and figure out exercises that i can do without hurting myself any further (i used to do weightlifting, but that’s completely out of the picture for at least another month or two).
so here’s the question to anyone who has gone through something similar or can simply offer any kind of advice: what types of exercises can i do in the gym that are EXTREMELY low impact but still burn a lot of calories? and if someone can please give me any kind of advice in terms of nutrition that’d be greatly appreciated, since i’m the type that either eats one meal a day or 5 and there’s no in between.
thanks so much for your help guys:)
