Weight loss is stalling. Help?

Hi!

I’m 1 month into my weight loss journey, and I’ve lost 15 lbs. (F, 29… SW: 196 CW: 181 GW: 140) The majority of my weight loss was in the first two weeks and I’ve been really trudging along the last two weeks. My diet that I’m focusing on is being in a calorie deficit and majorly increasing my protein because I was lacking in it before. I am staying very consistent, I haven’t had any “cheat” days and for the most part, I really don’t mind the diet, I’m finding new foods that I like. I’m not sure why the last two weeks the weight loss just isn’t happening. I weigh myself every morning and a lot of the time there is no loss, the last few days there have been a mild gain.

I don’t really have the resources or the time to work out because I have young children that are always home with me and any gyms in my area that are affordable don’t have childcare options. This morning I tried an at home exercise video on YouTube. I haaaaaated it. Every second of it. Is this something I just have to power through and do even though I hate it or if I were to find a YouTube for a Zumba class or something, is that a good workout to help promote weight loss? Any advice would be helpful.

Getting started again, after stagnating

I just wanted to share my journey so far. 38/M

Finally decided to be proactive in weight loss September of 2023. Started at 287#, didn't do much more exercise but just ate in a deficit. Took a few months but I dropped 40#, then tapered off my diet. Slowly lost another 10#. For over a year and a half I've just been fluctuating up and down a few pounds, still tracking calories but not actually eating in a deficit.

I've been feeling like absolute shit about still being fat, and nowhere near my goal weight or body comp. Started hitting the gym 2 days a week with a friend a bit over a month ago. Jumping back into a deficit leaves me wanting junk food like crazy. (Not denying myself junk food, as long as it's within my caloric intake for the day, this set of meal prep was just higher calories than I initially expected, so no junk for 4 days.) Friday, in the middle of a conversation, I was given a compliment, that I look like a completely different person than I did a few years ago. Honestly that has stuck with me so much, it's been playing in my head since. I don't feel or see a difference in myself at all. (Not the first compliment I've received, just the first from someone who isnt a close friend or family, but those dont hold much weight as they come from people who've said it looks like I lost weight while I was at my heaviest.)

That's it.

What are the chances of me getting loose skin?

I'm 5'8" 29 year old afab who is on a weight loss journey. I started at 261 and over the course of 4 months I've lost 35 lbs and is now at 225 by just walking more and being on a calorie deficit. I want to get to 185-190 because I feel that's a manageable weight for me but I'm worried that I'll have loose skin from potentially loosing 70lbs. My tummy isn't really "big" but its very soft and hangs and I'm worried it won't "snap back". I know I should be focusing on my health rather moreso than my appearance but I'm scared 😩 especially if I decide I want to loose more weight after I reach my initial goal

Weight loss rewards while broke?

Hi folks! I am closing in on 50lbs lost, and I am really proud of my progress so far. I've put off rewarding myself up til now because it didn't feel like I had lost "enough" (and truth be told I didn't have the money to do any of the fun rewards like new workout clothes or shoes), but 50 is kind of hard to ignore!

I see a lot of posts here about food-free rewards, but I need some no-cost reward ideas. I have zero money right now (like can't afford food, gas, and basic utilities kind of poor), but I still want to acknowledge the work that I've put in.

If any of you have any ideas or have been here before, I'd really appreciate some outside perspective. Thanks in advance! 😊

Trying to break a bad movie-snacking habit. Need help finding a healthy sweet replacement!

Hey, guys!

I'm an obese guy trying to lose weight, and I've a problem: I have a ritual of always eating while watching a movie or TV show.

I would eat:

  • A big bowl of popcorn
  • Soda
  • A high-calorie sweet snack (like a whole chocolate bar, cookies (usually the whole package), etc.)

I did this almost every day, and it became a source of comfort. If I skipped it, I would get in a really bad mood, so it's been very hard to break this habit. But to lose weight, I know this has to change. My new plan is to limit this habit to just the weekends and make it healthier:

  • Popcorn: I think I can maintain it since it's a low-calorie food and I love that it's high-volume, so it lasts long.
  • Soda: I'll swap to diet soda, which is no problem for me.
  • Sweet snack: This is where I'm stuck. The sweet snack after the popcorn is the hardest part for me to replace, I can't think of alternatives.

What are your suggestions for a healthy sweet snack that I can munch on while watching a movie? I'm looking for something to replace that "chocolate bar" feeling without derailing my weight loss.

Thanks!

Halfway there - it’s boring here…

I am down 30lbs and have 30 to 35 more to go. I’ve been at it since May. I have no complaints about my progress (apart from hair shedding, which is starting to slow down 😅). I’m continuing to lose ~ 1lb/week eating 1600-1700 calories, lots of protein. Stuff I’d do if I weren’t trying to lose weight, yanno?

I’m just feeling so antsy. I don’t know how else to describe it. Past me would be like “oh! Let’s shake things up and go vegan for a month!” or something similar (and unnecessary).

I know I have the best chance of maintaining post-weight loss by continuing to plug away at these very boring, normal, moderate little habits. Making them as automatic as possible.

But there’s a tiny piece of me that keeps thinking “is that all there is?” And it’s… boring. It’s not a matter of being motivated or even will power. It’s more a matter of it just not being exciting.

I realize not everyone can relate. And that’s okay. And I do meet with an RD who also counsels me on all my diet noise/habits.

From those who have also experienced this and survived the “middle period blahs,” what did you do or tell yourself to avoid sabotaging your progress?

What is your “why” when it comes to weight loss?

I’ll go first.

1) I love thrifting. I do find plus size clothes but everytime I go thrifting I find so many options that matches my vibe and Pinterest board inspos that aren’t my size! I want to fit into any clothing I desire to. I also find better deals on clothes that aren’t my size.

2) I want to dress up as my desired character on Halloween. Dont get me wrong I can still dress up being a plus sized woman but I don’t have the confidence. For the past few years I haven’t dressed up at all due to my weight.

3) I want to wear anything else besides black graphic tees. I avoid tees in any colour besides black like a plague even if it is oversized.

4) I want to get rid of my insulin resistance. I believe I have hyperpigmentation in my body especially around my mouth, neck, armpits due to this. I want my skin to be even.

5) I want skinny fingers. This sounds weird but I haven’t found any rings that I like in my size… I want to have skinny fingers to create my everyday jewelry stack

These are just some of my whys.. What is your “why”?
