How could you improve willpower?

I've only just begun my weight loss journey (2 weeks in) so I still have the occassional days of binge eating junk food.

This usually happens when I already feel awful - be it really tired or a headache. I zone out and lose my self control so I end up overeating quite a bit of chocolate and unhealthy treats. Afterwards my body feels completely dreadful and gross from the junk food and I really regret my previous decision.

I always end up stopping when it's too late :(

Usually eating something fresh 'cancels out' the gross feeling, but that works in the as good as spinning in the opposite direction to cancel out the effects of spinning in one direction. There's also the fact that I end up feeling worse since the extra food makes me feel even more full.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you manage to overcome that 'hopeless' urge to be lazy and eat junk food?

Why is my skeletal muscle going up, but muscle mass going down?

Hi r/loseit!

I am hoping someone will read this and be able to help.

So for the stats: SW (90KG / 198lbs), CW (62.8KG / 138lbs), GW (60KG / 132lbs) F 5'7.

As I'm now approaching my GW (hoooray!), I want to start moving my focus from weight loss onto lowering my body fat % and toning up soon. At the moment I do 2 strength training classes a week, and one circuits session. I also sporadically do one extra strength training session at the gym on the machines (but this is definitely not every week).

I've been weighing in on a smart scale since January and noticed that whilst my skeletal muscle is gaining, my muscle mass is decreasing. This shows the pattern in the last month but it's been the same gradual incline/decline since January: http://imgur.com/gallery/qEaDAh6

I was just wondering how my muscle mass could decrease, whilst skeletal muscle increased? Should I be worried about this, given that I am now moving my goals to increasing definition as opposed to just weight loss - or is the skeletal muscle the more important to my goals anyway?!

Thanks in advance!!

Prepping for quarantine has weirdly lessened my food anxiety.

I'll start off by saying I've been dealing with weight loss/gain my entire life. I was a morbidly obese child and teenager. I lost 100lbs between the ages of 24-27. I've gained back 30lbs and am trying to lose it again. Over-eating is a life long struggle for me.

Since I've become an adult, my tactic to lose weight has been to only have food in the house that I am eating that week. No snacks, no desserts, nothing extra. Just the food I need to make meals for that week. This typically would work well for me, but I would still randomly get in moods where I would go out to restaurants/get take-out and binge.

But for the past few weeks, my husband and I have slowly been buying more food to keep in the house due to coronavirus fears. Our state has been closing everything down, so we just want to be prepared. Nothing insane (no hoarding TP here), but buying more than usual. Our pantry is full of things I can make meals out of. We also have snacks, bags of chips and protein bars. There's even ice cream bars in the freezer. And somehow, I'm not overeating any of it?? It's very strange, I was a little worried about having this all here.

I'm not sure if this is a short lived feeling, since it's only been a couple weeks, but I'm weirdly less anxious about food right now than I normally am. I just have so many options for meals and it seems like I'm less stressed out about it. I wonder if food scarcity in my home might contribute to binging? Just something to think about. Stay safe out there everyone!

Gym's closed, work schedule changed...

With everything that is happening, a lot of things are changing in our day to day life, and I must say I'm afraid it's going to affect my weight loss.

First, all gyms are closed now (I live in Canada). I know some people find it hard to go to a gym, but to me it's the opposite. Working out from home is very hard, I don't push myself as much, and I don't have a lot of equipments (only a few quite light dumbbells).

In addition to that, schools are closed too. which means I have my two kids to take care of. They are 5 and 7, so they can do a kind of a lot of things by themselves, but I can't, for example, take a walk by myself since their father is at work. I like walking with them, but when we do (and we do), we are walking way to slow for me to count that as "exercice".

And the other big thing that changed, at least for the next two weeks, is my work schedule. Since all schools are closed, I need to stay at home to take care of them. Except we still need two incomes to be able to pay the bills... so for the next two weeks, instead of working from 8h00 to 15h30, I'm going to work from 17h00 to 1h00 (am). And I have no idea how I'm going to fit my meals into that timeframe... I've always heard/read that eating during the night was a very bad habit, because of what hormones our bodies are producing during the night... I'm afraid I might have to cut calories down... Or maybe I could do IF during these days, I don't know...

Anyway, how are the mesures taken in your country affecting you ? Do you have any advises for me ? I just reached the 50 lbs lost milestone and I don't want to go back up the scale !

(and again sorry for the quality of my english, as it's not my native language)

Day one of quarantine weight loss plan

Hi all, I’m an educator and we now have at least 4 weeks off. I’m currently 6’4 215 and I’m looking to get under 200 by mid July (best friends wedding). Today I started off the day by doing workout A of the new Athlean X body weight workout he posted. Let me tell you, it is brutal even doing all the beginner modifications. I’m also thinking of starting a 30 day beginner yoga plan I found on YouTube, can’t remember her name but she seems very popular.

Nutrition wise I’m aiming for 1700 calories with loads of protein. Going to use MFP to track all of that. I mean what better excuse to restrict calories than the fact that I should save up some food? I also started taking a greens supplement this morning, really excited to see how that changes how I feel as I doubt I’ve gotten my daily amount of vegetables one day in the last few years.

Feel free to share your at home plans, maybe some goals for the month and we can all share some accountability. Excited to see where I land before I head back to school in 4 weeks, maybe someone will notice a difference!

TLDR: No work for 4 weeks, can finally focus on my health, time to make some changes!

Don't get discouraged when your weight loss slows down!!

I have lost 10lbs in the past 7 weeks and I was bummed about it. I got used to losing weight at the rate of 3lbs a week... I was aiming for 2lb a week but it was a struggle to get a 1000 calorie deficit. I thought I did it according to my calculations but I was 4lbs short.

I got frustrated about it. I know any loss is good but I am a very goal orientated person and I was always able to meet my targets before. Anyway, I decided to take my measurements and with this 10lb loss... 2.5 inches from waist, 1.5 from hips, 1 from thighs, 1 from arms and 3 from my 'love handle' area. I am also down a jean size.

I can't believe it! I started out as morbidly obese and it took 40lbs lost for anyone to even notice. Now I am approaching a healthy BMI (very close). With these 10lbs everyone is commenting and I feel a huge difference.

So yes, while you may not be able to lose as much weight as you did in the beginning remember that these smaller losses make bigger differences!

edit: no strength training so I didn't build any muscle.

Down 10 pounds and feeling great!

I am officially 10 pounds lighter than I was on February 10th when finally decided once and for all that I was going to stick to eating less and eating better and working out. I'm so proud of myself, 70 more pounds to go!

I've struggled so many times trying to lose weight over the years, but after getting to my heaviest weight at the end of last year, I knew I needed to commit to change or else I'd be pushing 300 lbs in my tiny 5'2 body by the end of 2020 and probably be pre-diabetic or diabetic.

I feel like this time it's been different. I've been trying to be kinder to myself and not get too down on myself if I feel like I'm not losing as fast as I'd like. I constantly remind myself that this journey is going to take at least 8 months to a year so there's no need to rush. I try not to get to down on my appearance by reminding myself that I'm working on it and before I know it, I'll be able to fit into my clothes better. I appreciate the positive changes that have happened for me mentally and physically. I work out 3 times a week (or at least I did until all this covid 19 stuff started happening). I struggle with persistant depressive disorder and since I started working out, I've noticed I just feel better mentally. I like the structure. My body feels stronger and healthier. Before working out, I was getting to a point where even walking 5 minutes from the bus stop to my apartment was causing me serious lower back and leg pain. Now I don't have to worry about walking anywhere and I love to walk so I'm loving having some of my freedom back.

There hasn't been much change physically, at least not that I can tell yet, but the waistbands on some of my pants do fit better and I am going down on loops on my belt so that makes me excited. This might be in my head, but I feel like my skin is smoother and less lumpy? Like my fat is starting to even out if that makes any sense?

Anyway, I feel great and I'm so excited to continue on this weight loss journey. Reading everyone's post here are really great motivators and keep me inspired. I can't wait until it's my turn to post a "50 pounds down" post. Wanted to make this post for anyone else who is just getting started in their journey. Don't give up and you'll be making your "10 pounds lost" post in no time!
