I wish the majority of my thoughts did not revolve around weight loss/my diet.

I (F19) have struggled with my weight my entire life. I’ve made efforts towards eating right and exercising, but I always stop. I never get discouraged about that though, because each time I start/stop I feel myself maturing from what I learned from the previous trial, and I know I’m getting closer to making these lifestyle changes FOR GOOD. But this is besides the point of this post... Something that really bothers me about this process is that whenever I try to make even the smallest change (Enough water, cutting out random snacks, etc) my mind will be dominated with anxiety about what I’m doing, what I’m not doing and whether or not I’m doing enough. 

Remember when you were a kid and you got so excited the night before a field trip? That’s what it feels like, but in a negative context. It’s like I’m holding my breath, not really able to feel normal (Because my subconscious knows I’m trying to change ) until I trip over my own momentum and fuck up.
I’m going to try CICO soon, as previously heard on this very sub. Any suggestions as to how I can quit overthinking and subsequently self sabotaging??

Weight loss isn't marriage, you can't cheat on it (long)

Despite my title being a bit offtopic it is accurate. I am struggling with weight loss since my freshman year when I have gained all of the sudden 25 lbs. ( by all of the sudden I mean I was depressed and stopped caring about how I look). Since then I have always tried to lose the weight and bounce back to the phisique where I could be okay with myself. Since september Last year to May this year, I thought that as long as I go to the gym I will lose weight no matter what I eat. Little did I know. So it s May and I have been religiously going to the gym 4-5 days a week, working my ass off with ABSOLUTE NO CHANGE. I am dead serious, I have even gained 5 pounds due to the mentality ' As long as I do 5 more minutes of cardio I can eat that cupcake'. This led to a vicious cycle of binge eating ( because I was so frustrated that I see no change, also my friends knew how hard I was working and every body was like ' Why are you not fit?'). Then it hit me. LIKE A TRUCK. y o u h a v e t o c o u n t. Count your calories, it is that simple. I have been counting calories since the end of May and I have lost 4 pounds. I have also noticed that you cant just cheat on your diet. I could have lost way more weight but until today I acted that as long as it s not logged on my fitness pal it didnt happen. Also, a little reminder for me and every body reading this: use a food scale, use USDA( I cant trust my fitness pal after today when I compared what I thought are 1200 calories vs the real number usda gave me) and count even when you split off! At least you know why you didnt lose weight. The last thing I want to mention is that I didnt understand why I lose weight slow and I thought that I count my calories right (with a food scale) and it turned out that I simply ate more because of the MFP's lack of accuracy. Also, sorry for the spelling mistakes English is not my first language.

Thoughts on rewards for SVs?

When you meet a personal scale victory of yours, how do you reward yourself? Do you reward yourself at all? Should the weight loss be enough of a reward on its own? Those of you who met your goal weight, did you ever just stop worrying about rewards?

This post is one part idea harvesting for rewards and two parts of me wanting to know your thought process on motivational tools.

I used to reward myself with an item of clothing, but I didn't love that because I felt like I was hanging around in poor fitting clothes until I could justify to myself I'd lost "enough" weight. It just wasn't a good thing for me. :) So, if you could share with me your ideas for external motivators or why you don't use them, it'd be great.

what am i doing wrong? I can't lose weight and doctors won't help.

I'm at wits end over here. I weigh 550 pounds, work retail and spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week on my feet walking and moving. I first tried keto diet and lasted 3 weeks with no weight loss. My sister did keto and she went from 330 to 180 pounds in 9 months. Then I started going to the gym and working out still no weight loss. Then i got advice from a personal trainer about calories in and calories out. To count calories I tried myfitnesspal application on my phone and ate nothing but processed foods. Buy a drink or lunchables or fast food meals scan the barcode or do a quick search get my calories input it and stay in deficit. Every week I would weigh myself expecting a weight loss of 4 pounds a week (the app would only recommend 1000 or 500 calorie deficit). And some weeks no weight loss other weeks half a pound or .8. So after about 8 weeks of this i lost 2.6 pounds and was like what the hell. Someone told me about clean eating and meal prepping. So then i bought a food scale, and a lunch box with bento boxes. Cooked clean chicken and brown rice and ate that 5 times a day sometimes supplementing with isopure zero carb protein powder when i got tired of chicken. and that lasted about 6 weeks and I only lost 3 pounds. So my friend whose a bodybuilder didn't believe me and helped me out by cooking with me the food every week we'd meal prep and for 3 weeks straight still no weight loss. He told me to buy some thing online called cytomel from shady websites where you pay with bitcoin. He made me go get a blood work test on thyroid. He wants me to buy hgh and cytomel. I went to 2 different doctors and they wouldn't prescribe me the T3 cytomel for underactive thyroid. Now I'm wondering if there is something else i can do thats natural without resorting to buying weird drugs of the dark web so i can finally lose some weight. I feel like crying i'm so depressed and just can't lose the weight and sharing it with people in real life they just give me same advice which hasn't been working out. I don't think i can go vegan someone told me to try that and another person told me to just not eat for five days and then eat one day and go back to not eating for five days. I don't know what to do. Everyone has an opinion but they've never been fat before so i would rather trust you guys who have lost the weight

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

My Perspective On Mirrors Has Changed.

I used to glance at myself in any given reflection, disappointed in how fat I was and how my sweaty shirts really put my disproportionate body out on display. I would avoid looking at myself in the mirror as I washed my hands in the restroom and despised seeing myself through my phone's camera. I hated taking pictures with a burning passion.

One day, I went to the zoo with my family. I was sitting on a bench when a little kid points at me and says, "Ugly!" to his dad. I was hurt, but honestly wasn't shocked. I had spent the entirety of my sixth grade year being constantly ridiculed for my weight and for being quiet/shy.

This went on until June 8, 2017. That was the day my journey began. It was not simply a weight loss journey, but a mental journey as well. I transformed myself that summer, phasing out old habits and breaking out of my shell both literally and metaphorically. I've been developing that transformation ever since. Weight loss was the catalyst, and I NEVER thought I would ever do it. Every summer I would fantasize about returning to school looking completely different. And finally I made it a reality.

Today, I look in the mirror with high praise, reminiscing on all the dedication and persistence it took to be where I stand now. I don't think of myself as ugly anymore and am 100% confident in my own skin. I initiate pictures these days to save memories with those I love. And when I see myself in the reflection of the cars in the parking lot, I see me at my full potential (for now).
