16 year old gonna try now

Hi This account is made purely for this post and I have finally decided to cut the bs out my life and that includes getting fit . Just turned 16 last month and my height is 5 foot 11 inches . But my weight it as 120kg and this NEEDS to go down . Summer is here and it’s the best time to do it . I’m also quite lost on this weight loss thing and the only thing I have really researched is calorie deficit and meal planning . But I hope reddit could give me some tips and help me achieve my short goal which is 110kg ( tryna take small steps) . I heard the intellectuals of reddit can really help so here I am . I’m also not that active but like to play basketball and football( soccer for you Americans :) ) I just would like someone to guide me through this and if I can I will post updates

Looking for recipes!

Hey guys. I’m trying to loose around a stone in 3 months, after recently loosing ten pounds in 8 weeks. I stuck to my diet plan religiously with no slip ups for the entire 8 weeks, but as my allowed food was restricted (only meat, certain vegetables, fruit and water) I fell into the pattern of eating the same thing every single day, swapping out only the meat for dinner between chicken breast and steak.

I want to try this diet again, but need inspiration for meals. I’m so sick of eating the same things day in day out no changes!!! What are some of your favourite meals to cook that have helped with weight loss?

I can have pretty much any vegetables, however I am picky about meat so tend to only eat chicken and beef. No pasta, bread, rice etc is allowed.

Thanks for the help in advance!!

Looking for similar age women to join our weight loss group

Hi everyone. About a month ago I posted in here looking for similarly aged women (18-19F) looking to motivate each other in our weight loss journey.

A dm chat turned into us creating a small, private subreddit with weekly challenges and updates. Since the beginning, we’ve lost 2/4 members. To keep our remaining members on track, we want to welcome new ones.

We are looking for young females who are looking to be active members in our little community. Right now, we are trying to really focus on intuitive eating (using an app called Ate!) for sustainable weight loss.

Comment or message me if you are interested.

14 Reasons I'm Losing Weight

We all have our reasons, and I'm sure some on my list mirror your own. Excuse me for filling up your r/loseit feed with this stuff, but I needed to put this out publicly to possibly get some feedback and accountability. For the last 6 days I've been on r/BTFC and have lost a surprising 4.2lbs due to eating well, Intermittent Fasting and HIIT. Anyways, here goes...

  1. I hate the way I look. I see healthy, happy people all around me while I sit here miserable and fat. I want to look sexy for once, for women to notice me for once instead of glance over me to look at the guy across the room.
  2. I hate that I don’t have any stamina or any fitness level above basic. I want to be able to do all the things without sweating a ridiculous amount or being short of breath. I want to be an athlete for once in my life!
  3. I want to surprise the fuck out of everyone I know. Let those compliments rain in!!!!
  4. I want to live longer. I don’t have health insurance at the moment, haven’t been to the doctor in half my life, and I really don’t have much time to do this. Like...13 years until I’m fucking 50. Yikes.
  5. I want to look good in clothes. I know it’s similar to the first reason, but not really. I want to buy clothes like everyone else, not XL and L shirts in the stores nobody wants to go to.
  6. I want to be proud of myself. I want FOR ONCE to accomplish this weight loss goal I set out for myself in 2012. SHIT! It’s been 7 years and you haven’t really done anything to lose weight except that one time you were 9 pounds from your goal and gave up like an idiot.
  7. I want that one ex that called me a fat ass to see me once more and see what she’s missing out on.
  8. I finally want to learn how to eat like a normal person. I’ve been using food as a bandaid for my emotional and mental problems for too long. Time to put on the big boy pants and deal with these problems like a man!
  9. I want to go to the beach or swimming pools without feeling embarrassed and keep my shirt on the whole time because I’m afraid someone will laugh at my gross man boobs and belly.
  10. I want to CRUSH the competition in r/BTFC and be 1st place in something for my life! Even if I don’t win, not quitting and losing weight will be enough for me. However, I want that sweet, sweet victory of winning and I can taste it!
  11. Everyone in my family has lost weight and kept it off but me. I know they love me no matter what, but I don’t ever want to be ‘that guy’ at the family table again. Hate it that they pass me the plate last because they’re afraid I’ll take all the food. They’re right though, I used to take all the food. NO MORE! Learning portion control and healthy habits is going to see you through.
  12. I want my dog to have a better life. Currently I take him out for walks and play with him, but I want it even better for him. I want long hikes in the woods that he can enjoy. I want to take him on runs to keep him in good shape. I want my buddy to live a longer life, and if I’m the cause of him getting fat or out of shape, I’ll be so angry at myself.
  13. My 20 year High School reunion is in exactly 3 years from this month. I want to stroll in there and almost be kicked out because nobody recognizes who I am. I want their frickin’ jaws to drop when they see me looking all sexy in a suit and tie.
  14. Lastly, and almost most importantly, I don’t want to let the kid who dreamed of being a big fit muscular guy down. The kid I was 30 years ago wanted me to be fit! He saw his best friend working out with his dad and wanted that. He saw that same friend take the best spot on the football team he wanted, then start dating the girl he wanted. Don’t let that little guy down, because you’ve made him so proud in so many other ways in your life.

Thank you for all your work and inspiration!

First of all I want to thank each and every one of you even if you've just lost that just that 1st pound. You are inspiring and helping to prove that diets do work, they do work when it becomes a lifestyle. Thank you for taking control of your health and trying to make a difference, especially in the age of misinformation of "health at every size".

I started out at 205lbs and my PCOS was getting the best of me. I was a competitive swimmer who used to eat any food and inhale food, and still lost weight. I got to 205 in just two years of not training for swim. I still saw myself as in shape but I was lying to myself. I started last year and nothing worked. I tried strict keto tracking and felt defeated when I had a family event that put me off track. I also realized keto was not for my lifestyle as I might be part fruit bat.

Thanks to your posts and proving weight loss is possible and sustainable I am able to say I have hit my 20lb milestone which was always looming in the distance. I've done it through weight lifting (shout out to Jeremy Either's lifting routines!), lower carb eating (just cutting out pasta, white carbs, and most processed sugar), and drinking at least 3.5L/120oz of water a day. I will admit too that the last 10lbs has been aided by being diagnosed with ADHD and the medication helps with hunger. Drinking more water and eating 1g protein per lb of weight has had the biggest impact on curbing hunger and aiding my drive to eat clean though! I am also swimming or running for about 1hour 2x a week since I do a brewery run club and I am doing a few open water swimming events.

Eating low carb has helped me to use my carbs as fuel as well. I am making sure to enjoy my fruit before a workout so I have that extra burst of fuel. Weightlifting has taught me to view my calories and macros as goals instead of a restriction, even though I am eating at 20% deficit from my TDEE. To make it a lifestyle I am aiming for a 80% eating clean and under or at 20% deficit, with the other 20% of my life being enjoying foods while I am out with friends, or taking that day of sitting on the couch to play video games and let my body recover. I really think this combo of workouts and eating is something I can sustain and I feel really good on! I want to take back my health and see if I can become one of those grandmas that squat one day!

TDLR: Losing weight by weightlifting 3-4x a week, running or swimming 1hr 2x a week. Eating at 20% deficit of TDEE with a 40%protein/40%fat/20%carb ratio, sometimes flexible ratio depending on running/swimming workout as I do higher carb for longer days. Lost 20lbs. The goal is 22% body fat, not sure what weight that will be.

SSRIs and weight gain

Today I took my first dose of Lexapro. Yay!

I know the benefits far outweigh (no pun intended) the weight gain risks, but I'm still curious about your experience with weight loss and SSRIs. I am starting my medication in the middle of my weight loss journey, not starting a regimen as a direct result of SSRI weight gain.

I imagine that already having a weight loss gameplan, weighing food, counting calories, monitoring water and activity etc etc etc will give me an advantage over those that start the medication without that level of awareness.

Did it inhibit your weight loss? Did you gain weight, despite your best efforts? I want to know what to expect so I don't blame myself too much.

So much different with a partner!

Like a lot of us, I’ve been on the diet cycle a few times over the years. There was a time when I lost about 80 lbs, and other times when I dieted for shorter periods to lose smaller amounts.

Each time, I tried to do my diet thing while still fixing favorite meals for husband, going out to eat together, beers on the weekend, etc. He was one of those people who could effortlessly maintain a normal weight while eating pretty much anything.

After some major life changes, I find myself ready to commit to weight loss again. The difference this time is that my husband’s metabolism has changed and he has developed an older guy’s belly. This time, he wants to lose weight too.

The first few weeks were contentious, with me fixing healthier meals and him bemoaning the lack of cheese, pasta, mayo, desserts, etc. Finally, I convinced him to put the Lose It app on his phone and track calories alongside me.

The clouds have parted! Now, we have shared perspective about which foods are high calorie, and which are high value. I finally have a partner in planning meals that meet our goals and navigating social situations. This feels so right!

I realize now that he could have been my ally all along. I’m the one who had the attitude that dieting was something punitive that I “deserved” because of my heavy weight - not his problem. Now it feels like we’re a team, recognizing how crazy portion sizes and junk food are in our society and committing together to a healthier way of being.

Hoping that sharing our story here may inspire others who are losing to open up to their partners, and/or partners of those who are losing to take a sincere and supportive interest!
