My “best friend” wants me fat😒

My best school friend is tall & stick-thin and I am shorter and was chubbier. When I was “the fat friend” she was so genuine, the most chill & supportive person you could know. Now that I’ve lost and still am losing the weight she started to act differently. After weekends I pulled off something tight (usually I wore hoodies to hide the fat but I am keeping it away now) and she legit gave me the resentment-eye. Okay this sounds like I am making stuff up at this point, so I will just write some things she says to me:

“When you’re sad you have to eat chocolate”

To me in private: “You know you shouldn’t eat one meal a day, better be 5 meals a day with small portions πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘” (never been an issue until I started getting results, huh)

And at the same time when talking to our skinny friend group: “Girls you know you have to actually eat only when you’re really hungryπŸ€“πŸ§πŸ§πŸ§πŸ§πŸ§”

“I’ll bring cake at Wednesday and will make sure you eat it.”

“- Girl I need your advice.. I am scared to break my diet and I know I shouldn’t, but I’m getting these cravings right no.... - Interrupting me Eat everything you want, never limit yourself 😈 You are NOT fat.... I like your... erm.... curves”

I did not get upset at her, just a little shocked(?) maybe, because it proved the “no one can be 100% trusted” thing. I’ll use this situation as a motivation to keep going forward despite everything (and everyone), but I still am devastated. We were the “weight loss buddies” until I actually started getting skinny. Thank you for reading this, my support groupπŸ’Œ

is there such a thing

so i just thought of it and i’m wondering if it already exists.. basically a place where you can put a mark that you started your weight loss journey today and you can see how many other people also started at the same time as you.. but there are also buttons like “failed” and “reached goal weight” so as days go by you can mark that you failed or see how many other people have failed while you still keep going or how many people already met their goals and that can motivate you more or sth. for example people that started weight loss journey on 1st of February, 2020: 271 failed: 13 reached goal weight: 7

maybe the app or thing doesn’t have it with weight but you get the point i would happily use it

The beginning of my weight loss journey

Hey guys! This is my first time using this so please be kind! I’m starting on my journey of weight loss and to a more healthier lifestyle (and better body image) as a gift to myself this year.

A little about me, I am 25f, 5’7” and 167lb. My goal is 125-130lb, (but I’m not sure if that is possible). I tried before but after loosing about 10lbs in one and half month, I quickly gained it all back and then some due to stress from a job change. Growing up, I had a lot of body images issues. almost all my family and friends were skinny and I was never that. So that lead me to a lot of crash diets and unhealthy eating habits which actually ended up with me gaining more weight (I also have a really hard time loosing weight). I realized that it wasn’t working and just completely gave up after awhile. But now, I’ve developed a slightly better stance on body image and just want to be healthy.

I wanted to come on here because it’s really inspiring having a group of people with a similar goal and also as a way to keep me accountable and maybe share my journey? (also perhaps get/give support and trade advices!). Its really hard to control myself around food especially when I’m stressed about work,(I’m a stress eater!) so any starting advices would be really helpful! Thanks ! :-)

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

The beginning of my weight loss journey

Hello everyone. This is my first time going on reddit and I want to say that I never really understood how hard it is to lose weight. I’m a male 20 years old currently at 240, the highest I’ve ever been. I really try my hardest to loss weight man but it’s so hard. It’s so hard to ignore the tasty food and have a cheat meal. For me, i have more cheat meals than healthy meals even when I’m trying to lose weight. It’s so god damn tempting... but i want to be strong and try to control myself better. The worst thing about myself with weight is that when i feel i lost some weight, i get really happy and decide to treat myself, only to let in the bad habits all over again. I know none of you know who I am but I feel that this group is a great group and will be here everyday to motivate me more to eat less bad crap and go to the gym more. It is incredibly hard for me to eat healthy, especially at the night when There’s nothing to do and the cravings start creeping up. Guys, this is to this group, and to myself, that TODAY WILL BE THE DAY WHERE I STOP WITH THE SHIT EXCUSES AND WORK MY HARDEST TO BE STRONG AND HELP MYSELF. I really am glad to find a group like this.... I’m gunna need all the support i can get

Sedentary to dancer, and SO HUNGRY

Once upon a time I was 5'1 and 105 lbs. An injury, an illness, death in the family, and ten years has spit me out the other side at 5'1" and 157lbs. 165 is my highest.

I was 145 most of last year, until I joined a super stressful performance club and somehow got 10 lbs heavier. Enough backstory .

I just joined an intermediate ballet class 4x/week, and my college had a gym membership that my goal is 2hrs/wk at. I've also joined some active classes and have a campus to walk across now.

Since I was super strong and fit ten years ago, I feel like my muscles are responding well to the dance influx, but I'm struggling with food.

I joined Noom in November and have had zero weight loss. There are a lot of things that dont work, like me being on a crazy gf, vegan, and nightshade free diet (because of food intolerances), and because when I do eat prepackaged food, it tends to be highly caloric. I get protein from eggs (allergic to milk and meat, but eggs seems ok), and nuts and beans. I accept that I may need to carry a backpack of tupperware and ice packs with me, to avoid corn (the tiny devil allergy that hides in pretty much any prepackaged food) But my goal has been 1200 calories a day, and Cronometer says my bmr is about 1630, so that should be close to a lb a week. But on dance days they give me a few extra hundred calories and I feel hungry all the time, which is promoting cracker binges.

Should I up my activity level to "lightly active" now that I am running around more days of the week? (I was a tutor before this, and it was a lot of sitting). Should I eat at maintenance and focus on protein, to let my muscles rebuild now that I've thrown myself back into it? I'm lightly hesitant to maintain, because at 160 lbs dancing is much harder (as is just living, at five feet tall) but maybe a few weeks of muscle building will ultimately make me hate life less?

I'm slowly working cardio in with dance, acting classes, and the gym. It's harder to do stuff at home, but am down to add some more bwf into my routine.

Just exasperated right now. I'm getting very little help from the Noom app, and going over my calorie budget so consistently is making me feel like a failure, though I know my body is trying to figure out how to get energy and fuel for my new routine, so hunger is happening.

My game plan is to reduce added sugars, and try to have some prepackaged snacks (as in pre packing them myself, like carrots and hummus or an egg and granola, or something) for midnight snack binges. But I'm so tired of being this heavy, and even before the dance class was added I was getting very little progress. Halp.
