Tips for changing one’s relationship with food

So about three months ago my (27F) boyfriend (25M) and I started trying to lose weight together (we were deployed for almost a year followed by COVID and we each gained about 20 pounds). At first, my weight came off easily and I lost 14 pounds through making healthier food choices, IF, and working out 5-6 days a week. I typically do light cardio/weightlifting. Running is hard on my knees so until I lose a little more weight I’m just sticking with the light cardio. I’m 5’10 and I’m currently around 186 pounds (SW: ~200lbs). I’d like to get down to 145. I’m still working out about 5 times a week, but my biggest stumbling block right now is food. When I had depression a few years ago, I would use food to make myself feel better. I’m not depressed anymore, but the problem is I slip back into my old habits after a month or so of healthy habits. I am maintaining my weight loss right now but I’m worried it will start to creep back up on me. Eating healthy makes me feel like I’m depriving myself of the things I love. It makes me miserable, even though I know it shouldn’t. I know I have to change this relationship with food but I don’t know how. Has anyone else had an unhealthy relationship with food? How did you fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lose appetite as soon as I start eating?

Hi everyone! For the past two weeks I’ve had some weird appetite issues and I was wondering if it’s related to getting used to eating less, or maybe just a fluke, or maybe another health problem I have. Not looking for medical advice, just seeing if anyone else had this experience during their weight loss journey. (I also don’t have COVID, been recently tested.)

25F / 5’4” / SW: 242 / CW: 224 / GW1: 200

So for the past two-three weeks, before most meals I’ll feel pretty hungry. I’ll feel ready to eat and totally okay with the thing that I’m having. Then as soon as I take a bite….I’m not hungry anymore, I don’t want it, it doesn’t taste good, I can hardly swallow. Then I usually have to force myself to finish the meal.

I’ve always had a ravenous appetite. This has never been a problem for me, even when I get sick or something. I’m wondering if I’m actually getting used to eating smaller portions and not having 3,500 calories per day—I’ve been averaging about 1,750 for the past two months and that has felt like a very comfortable deficit (though that’s with some days way over or under, that’s the 2-month average). Finally, I wonder if instead it’s connected to a health issue I have that causes some bloating and difficulty swallowing. But I’ve also had that forever and never not wanted to eat because of it.

Overall I’m just curious, not all that worried. I’m eating the right amount and I’m eating a healthy and balanced diet. My appetite has just never been so low, so I’m curious if that’s a side effect of the only major change in my life, my diet and weight.

Down 14.2 lbs in 3 weeks

Hi everyone! Any other people on Jenny Craig? Today I start week 4 of Jenny Craig rapid results max program. Im hoping to beat the average 30 day weight loss of 17 lbs by next Monday. Its not cheap but I'm really impressed with it. I work a lot and put on a substantial amount of weight (60 lbs) over the last 2 years. I was ready to get it off but meal prepping, weighing food and counting calories just seemed too daunting of a task for me right now. The ready made meals took away the hard part for me. Im really happy with my progress and should hit my goal weight by December. If any of you thought about the program but were hesitant, I can assure you that it works. I have not cheated and follow the program exactly as is. Once my goal weight is hit, I'll go on maintenance and fix my own meals. At this point in my life, this program is what I need. Happy losing!

Weight stopped reducing.

Hello guys, I am 19 year old male of height 160cm. I have been on weight loss journey for almost 7 months now, I successfully managed to reduce 25kg ( from 105 to 78) but recently, my weight is stucked on 78 for about a month now. My maintanence calorie is 2400 since I hit gym 6 days and do moderate to heavy exercise with combination of both cardio and resistance. And My usual intake is around 1600-1800 calorie which is filled with protien and vitamins. I absolutely take no suppliment, just a black coffee 15 min before workout. I even use a band to calculate my calorie burn which is usually around 600 calories. Still my weight is not decreasing. Please help me.

Ps- even though little, I see growth of muscles in my overall body.

[16M] Lost 7 pounds in 3 months but barely any changes i can see or feel. Pretty disappointed.

Starting Weight: 150 Pounds

Current Weight: 143 pounds

16M 5'6" in australia

Took it slowly and lost 7 pounds over 3 months without calorie counting and instead switching to nutrient dense foods rather than calorie dense ones for almost all meals, which I'm lowkey proud of. It's worked surprisingly well so far and in conjunction with almost daily cardio (at least 10000 steps worth) it's managed to bring my weight down slowly.

Despite my BMI of 22.2 which falls in the healthy weight range, I've got quite a gut and loads of fat all around my body. I completely understand that I am growing and that I shouldn't worry too much about this because I'm still growing and should expect to get taller and leaner, the amount of fat is still immense with it bulging like 5 or so inches out of my abdomen. The other fat around my body is mainly concentrated in my chest and legs and my question is how can I start burning all this fat around my body? Getting rid of this fat and becoming leaner is a priority in my weight loss journey and I'm open to trying out anything but I don't have access to any sort of gym equipment except a yoga mat and treadmill.

Down 20 lbs since July 6th!

Starting weight: 282. Current weight: 262.

So 2020 was a hard year for a lot of people. I was truly blessed in 2020. My neurotic paranoia paid off and I stocked my family up with food in February and March. I brewed almost 100 gallons of beer. We ate like kings in 2020, no one in the family caught COVID-19 and we kept our jobs. I also put on like 20 lbs, and I was already at 240 lbs.

Then 2021 hit... My mom (who moved to be by us in September 2020) got diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer in January and passed away on April 23rd. It was hard, stressful and depressing. I ate and drank myself stupid and ballooned up to 290 lbs at one point.

Afterwards I realized I had to make a change so started getting a little more active and cut way back on beer.

I decided after Independence day I would really hunker down. I'm now down 20 lbs without stressing myself out. I walk with my family after dinner for about 30-40 minutes each day, but I changed my diet. I stopped eating junk food, fast food, and stopped eating my stress so to speak.

I eat mindfully now, and just having cut back my serving size and not having second helpings goes a long way I drink a ton more water each day which is important for so many reasons, but the biggest is because your body uses water to convert fat into energy.

I added more fruits and veggies to my diet and switched to lean meats and added more seafood to my diet. I cut how much rice or potatoes I have and use low carb bread and tortillas. I can't really taste the difference.

But losing 20 lbs my clothes obviously fit better and my knees and back feel better. My wife also says my snoring is much better too.

I realize that it is a long haul, a marathon. It took me years to put the weight on, it's going to take months to drop it. You just have to forget about yesterday and focus on the healthy choices you make today. String together enough great today's and you'll lose weight easily! Remember, you're not alone in your weight loss journey.

How to permanently find motivation again?

Hello everybody.

I'm a 22/m, I used to be a professional athlete for a middle eastern international football team as a linebacker. I'm a smaller guy, but I used to hit really hard so I made the team multiple times. I would constantly be put against linemen because I was a good competitor for them during practice. At the same time, I also trained muay Thai three times a week, and lifted weights three times a week. So all my seven days were doing one sport or another. I had literally no breaks. I loved it, I was in shape and I was about to start cutting for an upcoming muay Thai fight. Random people in the street would compliment me cos I was a fit 18 year old. Until one day during a freak accident. My arm snapped in half when three linemen fell on it, during an exercise I wasn't even supposed to be doing (coach mistake)

After that I suffered from a lot of ptsd and sicknesses. I guess all my other trauma all came out together, got new irrational phobias and became extremely lazy

Almost three years later, I fixed a lot of the ptsd issues I have, but I am so fat and out of shape compared to what I used to be. And it's so hard to find motivation to do any sports. I really want to be skinny and good looking again, but I'm always too tired and lazy to do anything about it. I've had times where I did some sports sometimes, even when I made a schedule for a monthly weight loss plan, after day three I got lazy and stopped again.

What can I do permanently to fix this issue? I'm still interested in mma, I'm a good wrestler. I totally quit football cos of how dangerous it is, but I intend to go back to mma and try to go professional.

I need as much advice as possible, if you were also lazy and very obese like I am right now, please tell me how you got out of it. Thank you very much.
