New to the sub😀

I'm currently 2 months in on my weight loss journey(378->345) but I'm starting to get unfocused. I have been lifting weights off and on since I was 10(I'm 41) and grew to love it..until I stopped 10yrs ago. Through these last two months though I've found the spark again and am falling back in love with it( not cardio though ). My problem is that I'm starting to focus solely on that aspect of my plan and my workouts are getting more and more geared towards hypertrophy) I love reading everything I can about it and taking my own notes for my files especially scientific stuff. So I would love to have credible sources for information I can read about regarding the most efficient way to lose weight (scientifically speaking or just by passionate people) and any advice on maybe meshing weights into my weight loss plan responsibly. I hope that wasn't too confusing...

What are some ways you reward yourself during your weight loss journey?

I have had an unhealthy relationship with food since I was a toddler. Anytime I'd go through some exciting or tragic event in my life, I'd eat. If I got a new job, I'd splurge and go out to eat. Made a sale at work? Celebrate by eating. This made me realize I've been using food as a reward for things I do good, not just when the bad things that happen to me. The trigger isn't happening only during times I'm feeling depressed. It's sort of become my go-to for when anything good happens in my life as well.

So to try to break that habit, my question is other than food, what are some other ways you use to reward NSVs, SVs and anything in between?

Gained 100lbs from antidepressant usage in 5yrs. Would weight loss surgery or another method help me lose it?

I started antidepressants in 2016. I'm 5'7" and was 140 lbs. I've since gained about 100 lbs with no discernable change aside from antidepressant usage. Extremely rare I know. It's like the meds have changed how I process food. I've tried over a dozen medications and they either don't work for my illnesses or make me gain weight and don't let me lose. I've seen multiple specialists and have no health issues aside from my mental illnesses. I unfortunately cannot discontinue my antidepressants.

I started seeing a weight management specialist earlier this year and despite exercise and dietary changes I haven't had any real success. She recently suggested weight loss surgery, and is currently consulting with those in her field to see if anyone else in my unusual situation has had success with it. My psychiatrist is also looking into the matter.

Have any of you successfully lost weight caused by antidepressants through surgery? If so, did you continue to take your antidepressants throughout recovery and after? What surgical method did you go with?

Alternatively, have any of you lost this much weight through another method while staying on antidepressants? Specific diet, exercises, etc? The only thing I haven't tried is keto.

I'm pretty desperate at this point. Really hope someone has some advice or experience with this, or knows someone who does.

I [20M] need help determining a workout plan for losing weight. I know nothing about working out in the gym.

Hello! As the title says, I know next to nothing about working out, but I am hoping to start going to the gym soon in order to help with my weight loss. I am currently doing CICO and intermittent fasting, but I want to try to speed it up as well as improve other aspects of my life by working out.

I'm not a stranger to exercise overall, when I was 16 I weighed about 220lbs (100kg) and used CICO as well as sports to get down to 180, and it was the best I'd looked and felt. Then I went to university, and gained all of that weight back and then some over the past 4.5 years. I am now at 240lbs (108kg) and fairly unhappy with myself, it's also creating some tension in my relationship.

I am coming to r/loseit with hopes that someone might be able to help recommend a workout routine that I can do at my local gym. I want to get into strength training, but I just have no idea where to start or what routines I find on google are actually good for a beginner. I am hoping someone here might have had good experience with a routine, or just know a lot about fitness and could help me out.

I am 20 years old, 5'11, 240lb (108kg) and I also still have some level of general athleticism, just little experience in a gym.

9 weeks, twenty pounds?

Hey all. Two years ago, my husband and I excitedly planned our 9th anniversary trip to Boston. At the time, I was in the best shape of my life and doing karate, Spartan race training, and multiple runs per week. Then Covid happened and I lost most of my exercise opportunities, went through some "interesting" mental health ups and downs, and, to make a long story short, went from 135 to 160 pounds (32F, 5'6") over a year and a half. Plus, we had to cancel our trip.

Anyway, we've rescheduled and I really want to wear the t-shirts I bought for the trip last time (they're Fallout 4 themed and we are going to be there on October 23rd, which...never mind, it's not important). What matters is that I'd like to be able to comfortably wear things that have become a bit too snug.

I've bulked up a little bit in a good way this year, doing leg and upper-body workouts with dumbbells and one kettlebell at home, but most of the extra is fat. I've been running for the past month as well, aiming for a 5K or better 3X a week; my endurance is getting better, but I've not lost any weight since I tend to eat more after a workout. Fitness is one thing, but I know when it comes to weight loss, it's going to be about diet.

So I'm going to try to get to 140 by the time our plane takes off on October 19th, using portion control and cutting way back on sweets. If I only manage 15, or 10, or even 5 in that time, that's okay. Progress is progress. I want to see some of those muscles I've been building. :)

Chia seed + water is my favorite weight loss supplement

I have been on a weight loss journey for as long as I can remember, but lately I have found my rhythm and thanks to weight lifting + a caloric deficit I am down 4lbs in a week! The hardest part for many of us is the diet which happens to be the majority component of weight loss. My issue also is that I love food. I find myself to be hungry only about an hour after eating. I tried a tik tok hack (yeah I know, tik tok isnt a credible source but this genuinely worked) where you mix chia seeds in water for a few minutes and wait for the chia seeds to turn into more of a jelly consistency. Drink that mix with a little lemon juice. The chia seeds expand in water and thus fill you up longer. I have been drinking this mix for a week and it has helped me stay in my caloric deficit since I am not as hungry. I can eat breakfast and not even think about lunch until lunch time (there have been times I totally skipped lunch because Im genuinely not hungry). I have tried many “tricks” to weight loss but this is certainly the best supplement to help you reach your goals. Hopefully this post will help some of you!
