Information overload in the weight loss industry.

I've been wanting/trying/attempting to lose weight for years on and off. I've had small, temporary successes, but they never lasted long. In theory, I know how to lose weight. From a scientific perspective, I know how to lose weight. But for the love of God, I have no idea how to implement it. I just can't figure it out. I've tried so many times. Nothing seems sustainable. And when nothing works, I go online for information BUT THERE'S TOO MUCH and to get one clear cut opinion I need to pay an arm and a leg for a "coach."

I SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIGURE THIS OUT. IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD.

I'm so over it. I need a hug and advice (ironically, I'm asking for more information).

So I’m just “supposed” to be 190lbs at 5’3F?! (Rant)

So I actually went to a dietitian the other day and at first I was excited to talk about my goals, my routine, and get macro/meal plan recommendations..

I mentioned to her that I’m trying to recomposition my body to build muscle and lose fat, and I’m hoping that it results in weight loss as the weight that I’m at is uncomfortable for me.

Before Covid and my dad passed, I weighed 125lbs and was lean. After everything, I basically got really depressed and let myself go completely and gained 70lbs. So I would like to at least get back to 140ish.

I mentioned my history and my struggles with everything, and that my depression has improved drastically since changing meds and going to the gym regularly

… and she basically just dismissed everything just to tell me that 190 is probably my set point and that I’ll likely never lose more than 10lbs and keep it off. When I asked about recomposition, she again said that my body just “likes” being at a higher body fat percentage and that diets and meal plans are pretty “useless” and that i should focus more on Whole Foods and “accepting my body as it is”. Literally the most generic, eyeroll inducing advice ever. So that’s where I pretty much ended the visit, and walked out in tears, discouraged, and without any useful nutrition advice, as I already eat a lot of Whole Foods..

I just don’t understand how my body is just “supposed” to be obese, especially when I never was before I picked up a bunch of bad habits. I told my fiancĂ© what happened and he encouraged me and told me that alot of people have lost weight and kept it off and as long as I do so in a healthy way, i can make significant changes.

I’m just worried that maybe she’s right and I’m just mad because she told me something I didn’t want to hear…

ALSO- I definitely don’t want to discourage anyone from seeing a dietitian either, I think mine may have been a unicorn, but still infuriating and I had to get it out there.🙄

I’m overweight and need to lose weight. F27, BMI 26, 5’4, 147 lbs. Diagnosed with PCOS last year, weight loss is almost impossible. Goal weight: 132 lbs.

I’ve incorporated 1h of cardio 2 times a week and 1h of strength training 2 times a week so in total I’m exercising 4 times a week. I’m reluctant to add more frequency due to the calory restriction I’m on.

I eat 3 meals a day. For breakfast I eat two small loafs of bread made of chia seed, complex carb. I add cheese and ham with butter on top of the loafs. I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning and cup after lunch.

For lunch I’ll have a small portion of rice/potatoes, lots of vegetables and 2-3 slices of meat. I add some sauce to the rice. I try to eat low carb for lunch and dinner, so 45% of my plate is vegetables, 40% is protein and 15% is carb.

For dinner I’ll have chicken with broccoli, pepper, cauliflower and Asian vegetable mix. I try to avoid carbs like rice, pasta and potatoe for dinner.

My calorie restriction is on 1600 calories daily. I have a really hard time eating less than that due to the frequent exercise I’m doing.

I’ve been following this for a month now and my weight hasn’t moved at all. I’m diagnosed with PCOS which means my metabolism doesn’t work like normal. My goal weight is 132 lbs and I want to reach in a 3 month period. However I feel discouraged because it doesn’t seem to matter how much I exercise and watch what I eat, the weight isn’t moving at all. I’m so sad and upset.

Day 3: The First Big Cravings Hump

It’s been two successful days so far for me. The first couple nights I had a little rumbles in my tummy going down from 3K+ calories a day to a strict 2100 limit. It’s taking a lot for me to not pop in a couple servings of junk in the microwave but I know if I slip up now all I’ll be doing is prolonging the process of my body adjusting to eating a healthy amount and pushing the day I reach my goal further and further away. I’m working on the mental aspects of weight loss as well as I’ve realized just how out of control my eating was. I feel that I’m closer to making that big leap forward as long as I can look back a few weeks from now and know I didn’t slip up not even once. Tips and advice welcome!
