What keeps you motivated?

30F 5’6” SW 353 CW 213 GW 180

Weight loss can be a long, challenging journey. What keeps you motivated during the times you just want to give up?

I am new to r/loseit and am also looking to make some new friends who can relate!

I am a chronic yo-yo dieter and am determined to stick with my new habits this time. I was overweight as a kid and it followed me into my adult life. I recently had weight loss surgery for the 2nd time on 7/21/23. Having had the surgery twice is embarrassing and deflating to say the least.

I am proud of myself for not giving up and continuing to prioritize my health. Sometimes it just feels like I don’t have enough will power and that I’m just “white knuckling” my way through weight loss.

I do see a therapist regularly and am on medication for depression and anxiety. I also meditate, journal, and keep a gratitude list daily. I try to fill my free time with meaningful activities that fill me up, mostly spending face to face quality time with friends and family. I take 30 minute walks outside to my local neighborhood park every day as well.

Sometimes I just feel like throwing my hands up and giving up on weight loss altogether.

What keeps you motivated?

High Protein + Fiber = Weight loss

The question is whether eating a high-protein, high-fiber diet leads to weight loss. Currently, I walk 10,000 steps daily and practice intermittent fasting, not eating from 8 PM to 12 PM. I log my food intake and aim to stay under 2,000 calories, ensuring I meet my daily requirements for fiber, protein, and iron. I’ve read online that increasing protein and fiber can make weight loss easier. Do you think there's truth to this? I'm curious if focusing on these nutrients can enhance my weight loss efforts alongside my current routine. Any thoughts or insights on how protein and fiber contribute to weight loss would be greatly appreciated.

tough advice needed for weight loss

I’m a 21F and i’ve been unhappy with my weight for my whole life. I’ve gone back and forth with any kind of diet and it just seems like I can’t stick to them. If I ever do stick to them something always happens in my life that throws me off. I’m in college and to be blunt, I just wanna look hot. I want to have a good body and I want to feel good about myself. I want to enjoy shopping for clothes and taking pictures. I need some like really tough love advice. Something that I can think about that will either motivate me to the max or it will make me so mad that I can’t break the habit of dieting and working out. Doesn’t necessarily have to be mean, but at this point i’m literally open to anything. please help and feel free to say anything that might’ve helped you in your journey.

Ladies, how do you mentally handle weight fluctuations due to your cycle

Hi LoseIt Ladies,

I am kind of losing it right now. I have been doing well on my weight loss journey. I was thinking that I was almost where I need to be. Cue PMS. My weight has shot up. The scale just keeps going up each day. Now I know my body. I know my body holds onto weight one week before my period like clockwork. But this is still messing with my head. I wonder if my weight loss journey actually IS going that well or if the weight I'm seeing on the scale is real weight. When will this cycle weight come back off so I can know what my actual weight is? What is going on with my body? Anyways, how do you ladies manage this? How do you not get discouraged once a month when the scale just won't agree with you and reflect your hard work?

Protein rules and weight loss?

New to r/loseit so apologies if this has been addressed already.

Does anyone have issues losing weight while trying to up their protein?

I am trying to lose, i'm guessing, around 20 lbs of fat. I'm not new to eating clean and mostly do (a lot of vegetables, legumes, quinoa/brown rice, some fruits but minimal). I exercise low-mid intensity 3-5 days a week mostly cycling and yoga. I have never followed the 1g of protein per 1lb body weight rule and have been following that recently. I probably used to do half of that and felt great and was able to lose weight easily with exercise, and hold muscle (maybe the difference between early 30's and late 30's?!). I'm losing nothing and always bloated. I find myself eating way more since I started doing the protein increase as well. I am using KOS protein powder and keeping my smoothie ingredients reasonable calories-wise and tried a few other protein powders -all same. Worth mentioning I'm pretty stressed out these days and it's an obvious contributor. I want to bail on any protein powder/supplement and just eat deficit. Thoughts?

IBS struggles

So here is some transparency from me. Bear with me! It’s a long one๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿป‍♀️๐Ÿ’ฉ

First, we have to bring it back to July 2024. At this time I was having severe constipation. I went to a GI doctor at this time. He told me to take 6 stool softeners and day and to lose weight. Well as a dietitian, I knew I wasn’t the healthiest plus this was the heaviest I had been. Deep down I knew that I had suffered from either diarrhea or constipation for years. So, I was like okay. Let me listen to him and try this out. This is when the weight loss journey began. I knew that I need more fiber and with fiber comes more water intake. Because, guess what! More fiber without water intake makes you even more constipated. Lord knows at this time I didn’t need that because I had the pains, the bloat, you name it when it came to constipation. At this time is when I started exercising. The elliptical for 30mins a day was the goal! Of course more of a cardio focus to help the gut moving and maybe burn some fat. With the change I had made thus far August came around. I was down -6.8lb!!! I was impressed of course.

So, with the rest efforts and the weight loss. Guess what! Constipation was still severe. So, my choice was to go back to the same GI doctor or another. FYI: Stool softeners were not my first choice. I had tried Linzess (relief at times), milk of magnesium (did not help), Mirilax (nope).

I then went to the second GI doctor. He prescribed my IBSRELA 2x daily. Which WOW this sucker works! Maybe a bit too well some days.๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ˜ฎ‍๐Ÿ’จ The exercising, portion sizes, and food options didn’t just change once I found this medicine. You know why! The love of my life then proposed to me in September 2024 This meant I had a wedding in December 2025; I HAVE to look SNATCHED for!

I am now down -17.2lb! I still suffer from bloat, constipation, not choosing the best food but yet I am human. I was able to wean off of one of my anxiety/depression medicines because the endorphins with exercise has helped!

I tell you this because, they now have all of these easy ways out when it comes to weight loss. I guarantee with changes in lifestyle /mood makes it feel 100000% better! My journey is far from over! I can not wait to have continued progress and changes! ✨

Down 50 LBs, feeling motivated and happier

Hey all,

For the last few months, I (23m) begun heavily focusing on weight loss. The last 4 years I would fluctuate around 323 lbs, this was due to poor eating habits and mental health. I am now happy that I have successfully brought myself down to 271 lbs. I couldn't have done it without seeing the success stories on here. The motivation from surrounding yourself with people in a similar situation is astounding. I was scared, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 9.2. Within a year I've managed to completely get it under control with an A1C of 5.0. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, and while I may be on medication to manage it, my activity has significantly improved my blood pressure. I am now averaging measurements of 110/65.

The biggest help for me has definitely been tracking my intake and going outside far more than I ever have in previous years. My goal is to hit 250 before May 2025, but I suspect I'll hit that goal well before May now. I'm really happy, and I hope my success can motivate someone going through a dark time.
