Frustrated, looking for advice

I had a baby about 5 months ago and gained a lot of weight in my pregnancy. A lot came off right away, but now I’m left with about 30 lbs to lose that are much harder.

I started working with a personal trainer twice a week for circuit training, and following the diet the trainer gave me. I went from basically sedentary to working out 5x per week for an hour. I was very surprised at how much food the trainer had me eating, but while it’s a large quantity, the overall amount of calories is fairly low. E.g breakfast is 1/2c oatmeal 1/2c egg whites, and three meals of about 4oz lean protein and 1cup green veggies, and snacks of cucumbers and tomatoes. I am supposed to have one cheat day per week and a gallon of water per day.

So far, I have been working out for two weeks and on the meal plan for a little over one week. Before everyone comments and tells me to wait longer and be patient, hear me out: I have lost nothing, not even the immediate water weight drop that I have always seen on every other diet I have attempted. My ideas of weight loss my whole life has been calorie restriction and fasting, so this time around I decided to do this is a more healthy, sustainable way.

I just don’t understand how I could have lost nothing so far. Or how I am supposed to be eating so much to lose weight. These may be dumb questions, but this is uncharted territory for me and I’m worried I will continue to not see any real weight loss.

Simple ways to eat less sugar

Sugar has a sneaky way of making it into our food, and if we’re not careful, too much of it in any form can lead to a variety of health issues. Too much sugar can not only impact our waistline, but it can also have a negative impact on our blood sugar, energy, mood, gut health and even worse — can cause you to have more cravings. According to data from the USDA, the average American consumes 90 pounds of sugar per year (that’s equals 1.7 per pounds per week and 3.9 ounces or 110 grams per day).

Lost 50 lbs, about 35 to go, hitting a plateau. Tips?

I began my weight loss journey in April of 2018. I was 5’6” and 239 lbs. in May of 2019 I was 188 lbs. I “took off” for a couple months, and worked on maintaining rather than losing. Mid-July I picked things back up. In about 4 weeks, I’m only down to 186. I don’t mind losing relatively slowly, I think it’s what will keep this off permanently, but I was hoping for at least 1 lb a week. I’ve been at less than .5 a week since July.

Tips for those who have plateaued and want to speed things back up? I’m being extra mindful of calories in/calories out, and on paper (er, my app) it looks like a 700 calorie deficit on most days. There’s of course a chance I’m underestimating my food intake, but I usually purposefully overestimate my items without nutrition facts to account for that. I can’t run due to a leg injury, but I walk often, and sometimes hike (usually 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice a day, usually 2-3 miles each walk).

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

(Also, requisite progress pic )

I was complimented by a total stranger on my weight loss!

I was feeling a little down this week because the scale hasn't budged in over a week, but I still got up and went out for my morning run. I'm so glad I did! Almost 5 miles in, another runner stopped me to say she and some of the other neighborhood ladies have noticed me running all summer and how much I've slimmed down. It put a smile on my face for the entire last mile of my run! She really made my whole week.

I've lost close to 40lbs since the beginning of April using CICO and cardio to help with CO part. I've definitely felt like I don't look that different, especially since no one at work has said anything and I have a bad habit of not believing my friends and family when they say they can see a difference since they know I've been trying to lose weight. But I can also fit jeans that I wasn't able to get over my thighs last year and my running times have improved a lot, so I guess it's finally time to accept that my hard work is paying off!

Don't hesitate to compliment people when you notice something different about them, even if it's not weight loss. It seriously made me feel so good!

SV: 4 Months and 1/3 the way there

I started this whole weight loss journey on April 15, and today, I am 239lbs. My goal is to lose 100 lbs, and since April, I've lost 33.4lbs, exactly 1/3 of my loss goal. I am feeling pretty accomplished with this because it is officially the lightest I've been in about 5... maybe 6 years, possibly even longer. I gained all my weight in 2009 when my dad died and never shrugged it off, just sort of lived with it. The best part about doing all this, is that I not only physically feel so much better already, but I am the smallest I've been in all those years. After a decade of obesity, I'm finally putting a torch to it and every day, I wake up thinking: "Man, I'm really doing this." I'm befuddled at how effect CICO is for this whole process. I used to think that exercise was the only way to succeed at losing weight, and that's what burned me out in the past. I would never control what I ate and would exercise too much and either hurt myself or just get so completely frustrated that I'd just quit. Strict CICO and moderate exercise is inexorably marching me to my goal and I am looking forward to the next 4 months of progress.
