Back into large size shirts!

Went shopping at Kohls for some new cloths and bought some dress shirts in large instead of XL. My old XL shirts feel way to lose now. Size 38 jeans are way to lose but size 36 are still kind of snug around the thighs. Feels good to be back into a size shirt that I haven't been in since I got out of the Army.

Finally staying under 220 as well. Less than 20 pounds to go before I hit 200 pounds which is where I was at when I left the Army. Hopefully I am there by Christmas time. Probably will aim for 180 pounds by summer time now. Just so exciting to feel like it is possible now.

Before starting my weight loss journey I felt like it was impossible. I seriously had zero confidence that i'd be at where I am today. It just felt so far off and hopeless. But here I am now. I hope this can be motivation for other people. Its tough to think into the future when you feel stuck.

Feeling stuck in life the last thing I wanted to feel was hungry. Past trauma and life in general was hard enough. Feeling hungry was something I never wanted to experience again. Defiantly didn't want another negative feeling, but now I don't view hunger as a negative feeling. Feeling hungry all the time actually goes away. My body has adapted to my new calorie intake.

How can I improve my routine to lose the weight in my love-handles & belly ?

Hey folks. I'd really appreciate your suggestions on what I can do to lose weight more efficiently.

I (M27) have been hovering in the 105kg weight range for the last couple of years.. Throughout my life, I have been overweight because of non-participation in physical sports & participation in unhealthy eating. My metabolism slumped more during the last 4 years since I started a sedentary job, which also led to me stress-eating and eventually getting to ~105kg.

Now, for the past 6 months, I have been working-from-home because of the pandemic. So, it gave me a great opportunity to get out of the rut of sitting all day. By cutting down on unnecessary snacking, adopting a better diet & going for 1-hour daily morning walks , I managed to lose enough weight to be ~95kg. I am starting to notice that my belly fat is a bit 'less' now.

Since I have been only walking for all these months, I thought I could improve my physical activities to enhance the weight loss process. The work-from-home may only be available for 3-6 more months, so I want to lose as much weight as possible.

I have a few questions regarding what I can do to lose the fat in my love handles :

  1. Considering my weight, is it advisable for me to start jogging everyday ? I am worried that there'll be knee problems later on, if I jog for one hour with my current weight.
  2. Is bicycling (for an hour) a good exercise to reduce fat in the waist (& love handles) ?
  3. Are there any other specific workouts that I can do at home to get a slimmer waist ? I know that it's tough to reduce the fat in just one part of the body. I am willing to combine the workout along with my morning walking/jogging.

My parents are refusing to take weight loss seriously and I’m(29f) terribly worried about them

Just a rant guys, since I’m at my wit’s end.

When I was a child, I was the typical fat nerdy kid who preferred games and books over exercising. Thankfully, in my adulthood I developed a taste for gym and lost a lot of weight. I’m quite lean now.

However, my parents have both become quite overweight over the years....and neither seem very interested nor determined when it comes to healthy living. They watch tv for hours in any spare time they have. They have a pretty active job, but it’s offset by their love for wine and late night snacks.

I’ve told them several times that they should go for at least 30min jogs, and cut back on the snacks. Maybe cut tv time a little. I’ve begged, I’ve reprimanded them. But as I’m the daughter, they do not like taking ‘orders’ from me and it is in one ear and out the other.

In the rare occasions they do go for a bit of light exercise, they always reward themselves with a heavy meal that day. Then not exercise again. They also don’t eat vegetables, which is worrying.

Doctors have warned them about gaining further weight. But after a week, they don’t care.

I’m seriously worried about them. Anyone reading this- if you have a family member who is eager and willing to lose weight, please support them with all your heart. It’s crushing to have family members who are eating to an early grave, and being absolutely powerless to stop it.

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Reducing my intake of zero calorie soda

32 yr old Female 160cm CW 93kg GW 75kg Type 1 diabetic insulin dependent

I am finally taking control of my weight loss and need help on this final hurdle.

I drink maybe 2 litres of Pepsi Max A DAY!!! It is the only thing I drink besides water. I know I need to cut down, but when I try I get awful headaches and become irritable and emotional.

I'm guessing it's either the caffeine or some chemical my brain has decided it wants in abundance.

Does anyone have tips or strategies for reducing intake and managing side effects?

Side note: I feel pretty ridiculous experiencing withdrawal from a soda
