Below 300 for the first time in my adult life!!

25F, starting 350. I weighed in 299 after 6 months of weight loss and a month of an irritating plateau. I was 240ish when I was 16/17, but I'm pretty sure when I moved out at 19, mental illness and undiagnosed ADHD hit me HARD and I got to 300 probably within six months. I still have unmanaged ADHD, but it's been diagnosed now, and I have a brain condition called Chiari Malformation that restricts my activity and causes migraines, along with BPD, PTSD, an eating disorder, and PCOS. It's taken me years to find something that works for me (CICO and IF, not restricting ANY foods, just portions, minor exercise first few months, then nothing due to migraines, now I'm exercising every day), but I have and I'm only going to keep going.

51lbs and counting. I'm really proud of myself after fighting hard and being so miserable. The journey is long but I'm so glad I managed to find a way on it.

I cried happy tears this morning.

I stepped on the scale this morning and weighed at 84.7kg (I'm 187cm tall). This is the lowest number i have ever seen on a scale... ever. I've been obese since I was a child (now 29) and i never weighed my self until we immigrated to the UK when i was 15, i had to register for a General Practitioner and they did a full round of check ups on me. When they weighed me, I was dead on 85kg, at 15.

That number has been lingering on my mind over the past two months of my weight loss journey as i slowly approached it. I used the lockdown and the extra free time i got because I was working from home to really focus on myself and health. So far i've dropped 28kg (just a little over 60 lb) since April. I've gone through multiple "weight goal milestones" but i knew this was the big one, I thought I was ready for this moment. I've been hovering just above 85kg for about 6 days (it felt like years).

Yesterday i weighed at 85.3kg, i thought yeah i'll probably need to cut more next week and see if i can break this plateau. Today I wake up and bam, caught me by complete fucking surprise and I was so emotionally shocked that I just started bowling my eyes out.

it really does feel like I took the weight of the whole world off my shoulders, whoever of you is struggling out there with their weight loss, i can tell you as someone who made it to the other side it is so fucking worth all the joint pain, the constant fatigue, every cake missed, every takeout not ordered, every slice of pizza you don't eat. It's all fucking worth it, i look back at the times i failed before and reverted into eating like shit and i feel like i was the dumbest person on earth chasing the slightest dopamine hits from stuffing his face with food. It's a genuinely liberating feeling when you're no longer controlled by your impulses. I'm not stopping anytime soon, i've shifted my focus to body building and still got some "stubborn" fat to lose, i feel like a permanent switch flipped in my head and it ain't flipping back.

Alcohol consumption and weight loss

Is it fine to drink alcohol (beer, whisky, vodka, etc) as part of my overall caloric intake limit and still lose weight ? Do different alcoholic drinks with the same calories have different affects on weight loss or weight gain ? I do feel like being in a caloric deficit makes me unhappy sometimes , as I’m usually eating smaller portions of food, cutting out caloric drinks, and I start to get impatient with the progress . I do sometimes want to have fun and let loose with some friends , perhaps go a little overboard maybe once a week or maybe once every two weeks or even just having a couple of drinks and not feel like I’m restricting myself too much. I have looked into flexible dieting and stuff like that but I’m still worried that I’ll slow down my progress.

6 Foods That Naturally Boost Your Metabolism

A faster metabolism can feel like the “holy grail” of weight loss. As we age, our metabolism often slows down and many of us notice that even though we are eating the “same foods we’ve always eaten,” we’re still gaining weight. That can be incredibly frustrating.

Fortunately, there are scientifically backed ways that you can naturally boost your metabolism, such as certain exercise programs like high-intensity workouts or weight-lifting routines. Drinking more water and getting enough sleep have also been shown to contribute to an overall improved resting metabolic rate. But you might be surprised to know, there are also certain foods that can naturally boost your body’s metabolism. Incorporating these metabolism-boosting foods into your diet can be one of the easiest ways to give your metabolism the jumpstart that you’re seeking!

If you’re wondering what foods naturally boost metabolism, we’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of some of our favorite foods that can help you speed up your resting metabolic rate, as well as how you can incorporate them into your day!

Metabolism and Weight Loss: What You Need to Know

1. Chili Pepper

Spicy foods like chili peppers can give your metabolism a jolt! This is because chili peppers contain a chemical capsaicin, which has been shown in a number of studies to boost metabolism by increasing the number of calories you burn. A review of 20 research studies, published in the journal Appetite, found that capsaicin can help you burn around 50 extra calories each day.

While you can find plenty of recipes that incorporate chili peppers and other spicy foods containing capsaicin, maybe you don’t feel like cooking. If that’s the case, we have a number of spicy Nutrisystem meals that will fit the bill!

2. Avocado

As far as foods that help boost metabolism, avocado is another favorite. A study, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that those following a diet high in monosaturated fat (like that found in avocados) had more energy and as a result, burned more calories.

One of the trending ways to eat avocado right now is on toast—and we’ve got some great ideas for you. But there are plenty of other ideas that you might never have thought of like using it for salad dressings, baking with it or even subbing it for mayo. Just watch your portion sizes as the calories in avocado can add up fast! It’s considered an Extra on the Nutrisystem program.

3. Milk

According to the The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, research has also indicated that foods which are high in protein can also help naturally boost metabolism. This is part of a process called the thermic effect of food (TEF). Protein causes the largest rise in TEF as compared to carbs and fats. Since the protein content of milk hovers around eight grams per cup, according to Healthline, it is a great choice if you’re seeking foods that speed up your metabolism for weight loss.

Milk is an easy food to incorporate into your diet as it can be added to smoothies, healthy cereals or even enjoyed plain. Milk is also packed with helpful nutrients like calcium, B vitamins, potassium and vitamin D, says Healthline.

4. Tempeh

Thanks to its high protein count (around 15 grams per half cup, according to the United States Department of Agriculture), tempeh is another great choice for metabolism-boosting foods. It also makes an excellent meat substitute. If you’re looking for a great tempeh recipe to try, this Moroccan Tempeh Vegetable Stew is full of flavor and easily fits into your weight loss plan.

Of course, any foods that are high in protein can be foods that help boost metabolism. This can include PowerFuels like Greek yogurt, black beans, edamame and more. Because eating a diet that is high in protein is also known to help you feel more full and prevent you from overeating, there are many healthful benefits to fitting these metabolism-boosting foods into your daily eating plan.

5. Lentils

As far as foods that help boost metabolism, lentils—and other legumes such as beans and peas—are another great choice. A review, published in the British Journal of Nutrition, found that eating lentils can play a central role in preventing and treating metabolic syndrome. They may also boost metabolism thanks to their rich protein content.

According to the Mayo Clinic, lentils are also rich in fiber and low in fat—and they make another great replacement for meat. Consider adding them to a variety of dishes, including soups, casseroles or salads.

6. Kale

Kale—as well as other leafy green veggies like spinach—can also play a role in a faster metabolism as a result of being high in iron. Research shows that iron can have a direct impact on an individual’s metabolism. According to Medical News Today, “If a person has low iron levels, they may not send enough oxygen to their muscles. Muscles that are low in oxygen cannot burn fat for fuel as well as they should. Low iron also interferes with optimum metabolism in the body.”

Smoothies are a popular way to add metabolism-boosting foods like kale to your diet without even noticing. It can be easily snuck in and takes on the taste of the fruits that you’re using. But there are many different ways that you can incorporate more leafy greens into your diet in a nutritious and delicious way.

Looking for some insight and motivation

Hello everyone

I am 27(F), 5'6 and my start weight was 163 lbs. Over the last three months I have only lost 6lbs... 😞

I track my calories and do weight lifting 4 times a week and make sure to walk over 10k steps each day.

Not only has the weight loss been extremely slow, but for the past three weeks I have hit a plateu...

I come from a history of binge eating (I am good now!) but my body seems to adapt to everything super quickly, with sluggish metabolism. I see posts by users who are losing 40 lbs in 6 months and it makes me feel so down... I am so demotivated and I just don't know what else I can do!

I have cut out pretty much all sugar and reduced carbs (mainly eating proteins and veg, three meals a day).

The issue is I really can't add more to my exercise regime or cut calories further because it is just so unfeasible and no way to live, and I don't want to trigger my ED. I also only drink alcohol once a month/every six week (always two or three glasses of dry wine).

Has any one had a similar experience?

Embarrassed to tell people I’ve lost weight

On June 23rd I weighed 366 pounds and as of this morning I was 275. Because of COVID you don’t really see people as much as you used to, and as such I thought my weight loss would be more obvious. To this point I’ve had two different people ask me “where are you losing weight?” Implying that they can’t tell when they look at me, once at 60lbs and once at 80lbs. Is that normal? I realize I was super morbidly obese and most likely very fat dense so maybe it’s not so obvious but it can be disheartening as I was hoping for the “oh my god you lost a lot of weight” response. I haven’t let it change my course at all, but at this point I just pretend like I’m not losing weight. FWIW it’s all been a result of diet, I don’t exercise much as even though I’ve lost a lot my energy levels are still pretty low. I will say that I was wearing a 4x shirt and now I can snugly fit in a 2x so the results are there.
