Lost weight but just look like a deflated fat guy

This is a bit of a rant but I don't look how I thought I would after weight loss at all. I went from 257 to 150 at 5'11/6'0.

I'm skinny fat with loose skin and my ribs stick out, yet I have a big belly still.

I work out and run EVERY day, but I look like I don't. Some people have told me I don't eat enough... but if I'm not eating enough why the fck do I have a belly? Am I eating too much? Shouldn't be.. I weigh and calorie count every single morsel of food I eat, and I eat below my estimated TDEE.

Maybe I just have shitty genetics. I did a 23&Me years ago and it said I was genetically predisposed to obesity lmfao. I'm never gonna get fat again no matter what I do but it's just disheartening. My body is clinging on to that fat desperately lol.

Anyone else feel this way?

Kayaking as primary source of exercise

Hi everyone! I have a significant amount of weight to lose (5'1 and 225 lbs) and I have never been able to stick with an exercise routine. I have tried dozens of times but no matter what I do, I have not been able to make this good habit stick. I recently bought a home on a river with easy access for kayaking, and I think I may have found a me passion! I ADORE kayaking, finding new places, and watching the wildlife.

I was wondering if this is a sustainable method of exercise, and if it would also support strength building in addition to cardio. Would love to hear your feedback on kayaking as my primary source of exercise in my weight loss journey, and how to maximize its impact on my health.

Day 1 - 25 pound weight loss goal, for the first day of school

I'm a non-traditional student, doing school part time and working part time. I just finished my first year back to college after dropping out 25 years ago (made the President's List, go me!). Now, I'm on my summer break for 15 weeks. I'm setting myself a short term weight loss goal to jumpstart my long journey. I'm 242 pounds right now (and only 5'1" tall) and wearing 3x in everything, and want to make my way down to wearing a large again, rather than plus sizes, eventually.

I want to lose this 25 pounds before school starts back in person in the fall, because I'm just really over how much I huff and puff when I walk up stairs, how I look, how much parts of me ache, how my clothes don't fit, and everything that goes along with being this size. I'm too old to be carrying around all this extra weight if I want to make it to 50!

I'm doing calorie counting at a 500-700 calorie deficit per day, upping my home cooking and vegetables vs. so many carbs and microwave food, doing yoga twice a week and meeting a modest step count each day. My steps and calories, I focus on making my weekly average goal rather than daily, so that I won't beat myself up daily if I miss a goal, I'll have plenty of time to make it up through the week.

I'm going to be focusing on building good habits and schedules over summer, so that when I start back to school in the fall and I'm busier, these new habits and schedules will fit into things and be routine by then.

I've tried a billion times before, so this time I have set myself an attainable short goal on purpose, hoping that will make this time a success rather than another attempt.

How is it possible that my old, smaller clothes now fit me but my “bigger” clothes fit the same?

This absolutely BAFFLES me.

I’m down 60 pounds and have lost it very slowly but steadily.

I was 267 in July 2019, lost 20 pounds, and then got serious about weight loss again this past October.

I’m now down 41 pounds since then and am at just under 207.

But all my bigger, elastic waist clothes that I was wearing 50+ pounds ago still fit.

It’s weird though.

Some days they slide right off me to the point where I can’t take a few steps and then there will be stretches where they fit “normally”.

Can water weight affect the waist that much?

I’m relatively short for a guy (just under 5’6) but carry a lot of weight in my butt and my hips (but I think that’s genetic because my sister does too and she’s pretty thin and in shape).

Anyway I started trying on clothes that are 6 years old that fit when I was the same weight I am now and THEY ALL FIT.

How on earth is this possible?

Did you have an "aha moment" that made you finally stick to your weight loss journey?

I am a 5'11, 28 year-old female and my highest weight was 215. During the 8 years I was a restaurant server I stayed around 150-160 (I'm guessing the job is associated due to how active serving is). Though for the past 2 years I had a sedentary job, and also COVID. I was stuck between loving myself with the body positivity movement and wanting to lose weight. I carry the weight well because I am tall and have an hourglass type figure. My boyfriend always said I was beautiful and that I don't need to lose weight. I never went on a diet because of what the movement teaches and how my boyfriend viewed me, but I decided to incorporate more healthy food. Though I was still eating huge portions and takeout constantly. I kept gaining and I was getting uncomfortable in my body and health issues started coming up.

Despite my health issues and none of my clothes fitting, my "aha moment" was when I went to Disneyland recently and the tennis shoes I wore were hurting my feet and were too small. Though previously they fit fine, I must not have worn them all throughout COVID. My cousin, who I was with at Disneyland, said that when she gained weight her feet went up a size. I googled if that was true and I found that the weight of your body presses down on your feet and changes their shape.

That was the last straw for me. My feet are being pushed down so much from my weight that I have to get bigger shoes?!?! Not having it!

So I lost 10 lbs last month with tracking calories and light exercise!

What was your aha moment?

Saggy skin and intimacy after extreme weight loss - how to conceal the extra skin?

Hi all! I started losing weight a year and a half ago. So far I'm down 158 pounds, with around 50 more to go. I knew there would be saggy skin, and eventually I plan to get skin removal surgery, but that is likely at least a year out.

However, in a few weeks, I am flying to meet a very special person for the first time, and I am really self-conscious about the extra skin on my stomach if we are to become intimate. I have never been someone who wears lingerie, but I am thinking about getting some to hide my belly. And also shapewear - which I also know nothing about.

Do y'all have any good recommendations for plus-size, flattering, belly-concealing undergarments or shapewear? I really want to feel confident when I visit my person of interest, and right now, the belly pouch is killing it for me. Lol.

And while we're on the topic.... I am large-chested (DDD/F) and am in dire need of a GOOD sports bra, most importantly something with adjustable shoulder straps to hold my ladies up (cause right now, they sag half-way to my belly button and I haaaate it!). The few sports bras I currently have do not have adjustable straps and it's becoming an issue... and it seems like so many of the ones I've looked at online also don't have straps either. Help! Suggestions please!

Progress 405lbs -> 340lbs, Coming to terms

Stats: 37M, 6'2", SW:405lbs, CW:340lbs, GW: 180lbs

Hello Everyone, been a follower of this sub for many months now and it's been a great source of motivation and information.

I started this journey back in March on the advise of my neurologist, as he said I could stand to lose a lot of weight and wanted me to try the Keto diet to see if it would help with my breakthrough partial seizures.

Happy to say he was right about giving Keto a try, I haven't had a breakthrough partial seizure since I got into ketosis and wow the weight loss has made me feel like a new person.

For those who are lurking and thinking about giving weight loss a try your at the right place and it's well worth the effort.

I had a realization of the weight I had lost yesterday that I wanted to share. When I look in the mirror even today I still see basically the same overweight individual even though my pants size has gone from a 54 to a 46 and my belt has gone from the last hole at the end to the last hole at the beginning.

I was moving stuff around in my basement to clean it out, something I had been putting off for years because I would start, get sweaty AF, get winded and then end up stopping. Well part of that was moving 50lbs bags of salt I had purchased a long time ago. As I was lifting them and walking them over to the new location my wife made a simple comment that hit me strongly when I was complaining how heavy they were. She said how can then be so heavy when you used to weigh that bag plus more a few months ago? For some reason that made me get into one of those trippy deep thought experiences.

For the first time I could visually see the equivalent weight I had lost and feel it. Was really eye opening and when I thought about the fact I still weighed almost 7 of these bags of salt which were hard to move I was stunned and a bit in awe on how the human body is able to carry so much weight. It became weirdly clear why chairs would break when I sat on them or why I couldn't fit in certain spaces. The visualization of the stack of salt bags was a clarity moment because when I thought about stacking so many bags on a plastic lawn chair I was like, yeah, no wonder the chairs would break.

I still have a long way to go of course, my weight loss was rapid at first but has been a steady 2-3lbs a week now for over a month so based on that I still got close to 1.5 years until I hit goal weight assuming a steady and even path but as long as that sounds, and it is a long time, it's progress in the right direction. It took me 37 years to get to this size so it would seem unreasonable to expect to hit goal weight without years of effort as well.

Thanks everyone and have a great day
