Eating carbs and losing weight faster?

I am truly baffled at what is happening and need some advise. I started my journey to lose 100 pounds beginning of march. And so far im down at lease 40pounds. I took a very scientific approach. Counting calories, macros, and excersising. Beginning couple months I was averaging around 5-7 pounds weight loss. In July I got very ill( not covid) and sort of switched my diet because i was trying to ear stuff that I could stomach. This was a lot of noodles, scones and bread. My typical day is usually around 1200-1300 calories where I would eat 2 eggs/ can of tuna/ 6 ounces chicken breast, some veggies and the rest is mainly jerky or pasta of some kind. The thing is that now I’m losing at around 10 pounds a month and it seems like the more lax i am the easier the weight is coming off? I have been tracking everyday since i started trying to lose weight but i just want to know if others have also experiences anything like it. Also this whole time I have been intermittent fasting, eating window 12-5 and no soft drinks whatsoever, I drink 100oz of water at least in addition to sparkling water and coffee. CW 257. 100 lbs off my ALL TIME heaviest!

Hello fellow Losers!

I am happy to report today that I am 100 lbs off my all time heaviest. All time heaviest was in the low 340s, when the wife (then girlfriend) and I went to Las Vegas and while exploring the Fremont Street experience, came upon the Heart Attack Grill. For those who don't know what this place is, it's something you'd only find in Vegas. It's a burger joint, where they fry everything in bacon fat, including the fries, and do not serve diet beverages. The cooks and management dress up like doctors while the wait staff dress up like nurses. Oh, and people over 350 lbs eat for FREE. They have a big ol scale outside to see if you qualify. Now, I did not step on that scale, but I made a joke to my wife that "i just need to be weighed down with a few rocks and I'll make it". Spring 2015-Fall 2016 was my all time heaviest, I was not weighing myself, but I know it was over 340.

This morning, I stepped on the scale at 240.6. I have 239, which was a major milestone I set for myself to hit as of March 2021. I had built in some setbacks into my original weight loss goals, but to be honest, I've stuck to the high protein low carb 1700 average calorie/day diet (range 1200-2500). Even on my "allowance days" (I don't say cheat days because cheat implies old habits) I stick to 2500 calories/day, which is still far below my old habit average of what I estimated to be 4,500 calories/day which contributed to gaining and then maintaining in the low-mid 300s.

Everything I posted about before is still working! Sticking to the calories, 1000-1500 calorie/day deficit depending on activity levels and I've now entered the "Century Land", where I will hit several 100 lbs goals to follow:
<241 100 off all time heaviest

233 100 off my 2020 post holiday pre pandemic high

226 100 off my doctor's office recorded weight in September 2019

218 100 off my weight since tracking calories on March 25, 2020

Some NSV's:

I can rest my laptop on my lap and don't have a huge belly in the way. When I sleep on my side, my knees touch. This is weird, and takes some getting used to. I may need to find a better position to sleep in. I'm sleeping way better than before, a "bad night's sleep" at 330 is brutal, but at 240 or so, it doesn't feel nearly as bad, which likely means the quality of my sleep has improved. My total cholesterol declined from 205 to 148. My fasting blood sugar declined from 98 to 88. I am no longer a good candidate for weight loss surgery (direction I was going prior to this).

For those of you who are struggling, I was in your shoes before, and my story even now that I've been sticking to the diet is not without struggle, it is very very hard some days, but losing weight is extraordinarily difficult and takes patience, motivation and a positive attitude. Motivation is something that can't be taught, but it is something that is built over time, and once you find it, there is NO STOPPING YOU. Crush those goals! I'll post some before and after pictures once I reach 218 and get to the end of century land!

8 Months in 90 pounds down

Started my weight loss journey on new years of this year. I have done this type of resolution before and always fail. This time was different.

I started tracking calories in a normal day. Saw how much I was actually eating and was shocked. It never felt like it would be that much. Began slowly cutting things out I didn't need. Fast food became and instant no and I had to say good bye to all the bread/pastas I was eating.

Began exercising, covid hit and I plateaued. Gyms opened up so I joined, then they closed again but I still kept at the calorie tracking. I currently eat between 1200-1300 calories a day typically. I have literally never felt better in my life. I still have a lot to lose to reach healthy weight but I'm really proud of what I have been able to achieve so far.

Wife wants to lose weight after I lost 150 lbs, but hasn't put in too much effort and is extremely frustrated.

My wife and I were both athletes in a division one college. Back then we were in great shape. Now we are in our mid 30s with sedentary jobs but eat as if we are athletes. I was 200 lbs overweight. After a physical my doctor (who is amazing) sat me down and told me due to my other health conditions, if I didn't lose the weight I might not see the next 10 years. Over the next year and a half I tracked my calories, stopped eating when I hit my limit, and set up a home gym in my basement and worked out every day. I'm now 150 lbs down, have noticeable muscle, and am obviously smaller. I still have 50 lbs to go.

My wife during that time went to get her PhD to follow her dream, I obviously support this and have been working out while she studies or is at school. She has gained an extra 50 lbs and is 100+ pounds overweight. I have never made her feel less beautiful or told her she needs to lose weight because I feel like if someone besides a doctor told me that I would depression eat. She noticed my weight loss and last month she wanted to do it with me.

Right off the bat she said she wasn't going to count calories or stop eating what she loves, she was just going to eat healthier and work out. That's ok, its a marathon not a sprint. While she has started eating veggies, she eats them covered in dressing. She also has added those vegies but hasn't removed anything. I haven't said anything to her about this because this is obviously important to her and I don't want her to get frustrated and give up. However she is going on frustrated rants saying it must be in my genetics to lose weight and not hers, and that it wasn't fair that I "got to" lose weight and she didn't. She hasn't wanted to be intimate with me in any way since she started, which is fine, I get she doesn't feel great right now, but how can I help? I tell her how beautiful she is all the time. I tell her we can accomplish anything together, but she is getting more and more depressed and doesn't want to see a therapist. I just want her to be happy and don't know where to start. I almost regret losing weight now.

it took 6 years, but i think i'm finally healthy, both physically & mentally.

M. 38. 5' 11''. SW: 221. LW: 141. CW: 149.

TL:DR. i lost weight.

Chapter 1. How I Got Obese.

simply put, as an average American, i lived like an average American, and therefore got fat. and yet, illogically, i was shocked that it happened to me. i grew up slender, and didn't start packing on the pounds until after high school. not all at once, only 5-ish pounds a year, but after many years, i had transformed into a hamplanet.

Chapter 2. Why I changed My Lifestyle.

becuz unhappiness. i was a victim, not of forces outside my control, but a victim of my own foolish behaviors. i was nearing Homer Simpson's weight, a character i had laughed at for years, and i realized that it would be hypocritical to not expect others to laugh at me for the same reason. for my weight loss plan, i decided to emulate another of Homer's signature traits: laziness.

Chapter 3. How I Got Skinny.

since it took me years to get fat, it only made sense that it would take me years to get unfat. i did a lot of research on weight loss, and as i'm sure many of you are aware, there are many different opinions on how to 'correctly' do it. so i used a variety of methods, such as CICO, IF, limiting refined foods, avoiding all drinks with calories, mild exercise.

Chapter 4. How I Took It a Bit Too Far.

originally, my goal was to get to where i was at the top of my BMI normal weight, 178 lbs. but when i got there, i still felt fat. so i continued losing weight. after 5 years, i had lost around 70 lbs, but i still wasn't happy. so i upped IF from 14 hours a day to 18, and went from a daily brisk walk to a daily run. i got down to 141 pounds, a loss of 80 lbs. but i still wasn't happy.

then, 2 things happened. 1, my knee started hurting from all the running. 2, coronavirus. i realized that if i got coronavirus and became very ill, being super skinny might actually be bad. having some extra pounds couldn't hurt. so i stopped running and switched back IF to 14 hours a day. i gained 8 pounds in 2 months, and i've stayed at around 149 for 5 months, so i guess this is my 'set point', if such a thing exists.

Chapter 5. In Summation.

i currently feel pretty good. the only thing i'm considering doing is adding around 15 pounds of muscle, as my physique is kinda scrawny. but that would take effort, so i dunno. my advice to anyone trying to lose weight is to be realistic. it may take years to get to where you are healthy. it doesn't have to, i guess, but everyone i know who has done rapid weight loss has gained it all back. rapidly.

I have lost 50lb this year with LOSE IT!

First of all, I just realized you can set your own calorie allowance so I took advantage of that. Secondly, if you're new I highly recommend pick up a cheap smart watch on amazon (like $40). So yeah, January/Febuary weight SW220 and in March things heated up when I downloaded Lose It. I'm now at CW175, still big for 5'3 but HELLO so much better. I just want to say YOU CAN DO IT and that exercise helps so much. I never used to believe that until i started walking 5-8 miles a day. When I started one mile was a big deal. Sometimes I eat the calories I burned, sometimes I dont but I find that if I dont (although i'm proud of myself) I just feel hungry later in the week and sometimes go over. If you're looking for a place to start or weight loss advice (obviously i'm not a pro, i weigh 175lb) BUT I recommend as little food prep as possible. When I used to cook, I would snack. That's just me, but I found buying an air fryer was AWSOME and has helped me A TON. I have celiacs so i'm GF but I have no problem with processed foods. I can't be perfect. So I throw some cauliflower chicken nuggets and veggie fries in the air fryer and BAM 16 minutes, dinner is done. I hope this helps some one. I just know when I first started I didn't believe in myself or that I could really lose. I hope this helps at least one person feel less stuck.
