I feel so much better already!

Hello guys !!! I’ve recently gone back on my weight loss journey after yo-yoing back and forth for a while. I’m 16 days in I’m eating healthier, calorie counting and walking at least 2 or 3 miles 5 days a week.

I feel so much better already. The first thing I noticed happened yesterday! When I first started going on walks my breathing would be a struggle, I couldn’t keep my pace and I would notice a tingling feeling in my hands, yesterday while walking I noticed none of that!! And it was such a pretty day I accidentally walked 5 miles!

The last I checked I was 289 and that was a month ago. I’m too afraid to face the scale so I don’t know if I’ve lost anything yet, but I do feel a million times better not to mention the best part NO HEART BURN OR CHEST PAIN WHILE I TRY TO SLEEP so my rest has been excellent !!!

I truly have to thank this community for keeping me on the wagon!! I’ve never seen so many encouraging people so thank you so much!! Good luck to all of us!

Weight loss and pregnancy

I would love to know if there is anyone here that has had pregnancy while overweight/obese and then another one closer to goal weight.

I am trying to loose weight before getting pregnant again. I had my son 2021 and I am nearly at pre pregnancy weight (still obese) so I am planning to loose more weight but I wanted positive stories on pregnancy when you weigh less. My first pregnancy was killer.

I also don't know if I should wait longer to try and get pregnant so I can get to a healthy bmi. This would mean i would need to loose another 4 stone (i have lost 1 so far).

Thanks

Struggling with work stress and weight loss

I'm six months into my new job and every morning, I do not look forward to waking up. Since the new year started, I've been experiencing depression from work. Not feeling valued, appreciated, or understood. Imposter syndrome. Regret not staying in my previous role, especially when the pay difference was not that huge and I was no where near this stressed or overwhelmed. It's getting to the point where I feel physically unwell most days. Fatigue, brain fog, anxiety. I've been working well past five and on weekends, waking up in the middle of the night from stress, and crying before meetings. I've called the NSPL and my EAP for help. I just feel like I haven't been living for the past three months.

With that said, my eating habits have been out of control the past couple of weeks. I've been feeling so guilty tonight because I ate a fried chicken sandwich from Popeyes, french fries, and funfetti cake for dinner. Along with all the calories I had for breakfast and lunch.

I'm sorry this is mostly a vent. I've really wanted to get all of these thoughts out of my head for a long time. I've just felt so lonely in all of this.

But how do you get motivated and inspired again? How do you push yourself to go to the gym even after long days at work? Or after feeling so weighed down physically and mentally? Also, I've found myself craving carbs and sugar, when I know these things have been slowing me down. How have you motivated yourself to eat healthily again?

I (15, male) am 70 pounds overweight. I'm going to lose it. But I have a few questions:

Gotta lose this extra weight. I've got a few questions though.

One, how long will it take me to stop craving snacks? Of course I don't expect to never have a craving or urge for something again. But how long would it take to where it's not as much, and maybe not as strong?

Two, will I have any loose skin? My belly doesn't really droop down. It's not saggy or loose. I think the right term is a pot belly. Will I have a bunch of loose skin, or will it go away since I'm still growing?

Three, how much do stretch marks fade? I have some on my upper thighs, the back of me knees, one across where my belly and chest meet, and some smaller ones on my upper arm, kind of close to my shoulders. I don't think any of it is too bad. But I really don't want them to be noticeable. How much do they take to fade, and how long?

And finally, how long should I generally expect this weight loss to take? I know it'll be different for everyone, but could I have a general idea of how long it might take?

Thanks!

Non-American perspective: It is not carbs, but something is wrong with american food

I see a lot of people talking about carbs in weight loss forum. This is a little strange to me because I come from a country where literally every person eats rice, every single meal of the day almost -- and rice (Japan) probably constitutes 50% of that meal as well. And nobody is fat. Maybe 1 in 50 people or something, but you do not see fat people normally ever despite most of what everyone is eating being rice.

However, when I came to america for studies, after about 1 year I start to gain wait. Almost 10 kgs!. After being normal weight my entire life and never even thinking about weight. I do not even eat a bunch of sodas and candies and things either.

I do not know what is wrong with the food in america, but there is something wrong. I think you should not feel bad about getting overweight in this country. I also suggest if you want to lose weight and you can, move to Japan =).

I'm also curious if anyone who has more knowledge knows what the problem could actually be with american food -- or has had similar experiences? besides just the portion being too big (especially in restaurants... some restaurants my friends take me to have more food than we would eat in an entire day in Japan). To me it feels more addictive also but I don't have the knowledge to know why.

Rapid weight loss after....working out less?

My situation is odd, but essentially I have been unable to maintain my regular workout schedule (Usually 3-4 times a week, bro-split type lift routine) since getting a new puppy. My sleep schedule is wacky, I have been unable to leave the house and thus my workout routine has been shot. It has only been a few weeks but my weight seems to be dropping somewhat rapidly.

I typically sit around 188-193, but am now at 181 and seemingly going down. I don't suspect this is "muscle loss" since it has only been a few weeks. Has anyone experienced weight loss after working out less? Am I being naïve and actually losing muscle weight?

[For context I am a Male/6'2/33 years old]

Calorie calculations making my head spin

I'm using the nhs weightloss app to calculate my calorie intake, all I put in was my height and weight and they did the calculation that I need to be eating between 1600-2100 calories a day, seems excessive to me but I am recovering from an ED so I'm just trying to relearn and have healthier eating habits but I'm staying on the lower end of 1600. I thought to find out how exactly to calculate my own personal bmr, maintenance calories and so on thinking ill get a better idea of how many calories I should actually be looking to eat but it's way higher than I thought, it's crazy! So here are my stats - I'm 72kg, 164cm and 24 years old, using an equation from myprotein.com I calculated my bmr is 1464 and since I'm moderately active I multiplied that by 1.84 and got 2708 as my maintenance!!! Then I looked at my average calories burned on fitbit (I always wear a tracker) and it's between 2500-3000 a day so I went for the lower and since my net calories should be atleast 500 less than my bmr for weight loss which is 965 i added them both to have an idea of how many calories i could be eating (965+2500=3465). Did I get that right?! My daily calories in and out should look to be 3465 (in) - 2500 (out) = 965 (net) That seems absolutely crazy to me, 3400 calories looks like my binge days, I never eat more than 2000 and on my restrictive days it was less than 800 (which I'm not doing anymore, it was not healthy). If my calculations are right, why am I not loosing as much anymore? Do I need to be eating more to loose which does not make sense. Please tell me my calculations are wrong 😬 Do I stay with 1600? I've hit a plateau for the past 2-3 weeks and don't want to fall into my restrictive and binging cycle again.
