Excited to be seeing loose skin

In 2018 I lost 50 lbs. I went from just into the obese bmi range to within the healthy range. I did not get any noticeable loose skin from this loss.

2019 has been a year of slight re-gains, followed by losses. I never did reach my goal weight, but I am once again serious about losing the last lbs to get to it. I currently have only 10 lbs to go.

According to My Fitness Pal, I am currently on a 34-day streak. I have been good about my food and portions. But I have been in a plateau for most of this streak. With only 10 lbs left to lose, I have been very frustrated by this.

However, I noticed yesterday that on my inner thighs, I have gotten some loose skin, which I didn't have a couple of weeks ago. This made me really excited, because even though my scale is currently telling me that I have gained 5 lbs (impossible), I can see real, undeniable results right before my eyes! I tried to tell someone close to me about this, but they didn't understand why I found loose skin on the inside of my thighs to be a good thing.

I apologize if this post seems insensitive to people that struggle with loose skin following weight loss. I do know that I am very lucky to not have much at this point. But having spent a full year 10-15 lbs away from my goal weight, I honestly am thrilled to be seeing the fat melting off of some of my few remaining "problem areas."

Thank you for reading. I needed to share my excitement with someone.

Period has gone, but I'm still fat. What gives?

I have lost 105 pounds in the last 6 months going from 279 pounds to 174 pounds at 5'7.

I know that is quite quick, but I am doing intermittent fasting and it's quite an average rate for that i think. I try my best to get all nutrients. I get enough iron.

Recently (last month) i have begun getting extremely tired and shaky all the time. I consume about 1200 calories a day (for the 1st month i was doing a more extreme fast, 500 calories a day) and my weight loss is slower than what it should be considering my TDEE. I am extremely careful with portions and I always know exactly what i am eating.

My period totally stopped 3 months ago and i haven't had one since. I have no idea why. I'm fat, i should have plenty estrogen available.

Could it be unrelated to the weight loss? I don't want to eat any more, I obviously don't need to since I have plenty of fat that my body should be using.

Is there anything else that could be causing this? I know amenorrhea is common with weight loss but it shouldn't happen to me as i am fat.

Finally under 300 pounds! Four months later and I weigh 293 pounds.

Hello all!

I am a 24F, 5’7” who began CICO, keto, intermittent fasting, and OrangeTheory in June 2019. I’m not super strict on myself and hav become a lot nicer to myself. If I eat a piece of cake or chocolate, I don’t beat myself up like I used to. I enjoy the moment and get right back on track.

I began this journey on June 17th at 350 pounds. I never thought I’d see this day. I’m looking forward to hopefully getting to the 100’s very soon.

Does anyone who has lost similar weight have any advice? I’ve heard. A lot that I’m going to need to be a lot more patient moving forward as weight loss will get harder and harder. Some questions that I have:

  1. How long did it take some of you to get into the 100’s?
  2. Did your hair start to fall out during your weight loss journey? When did it stop?
  3. Where was your most challenging area to lose weight?
  4. Did you have loose skin?
  5. Do you take any vitamins (biotin, collagen, etc.)?

Hopefully you all can share some pieces of advice with me! Thanks everyone!

Weight loss myths and stupid advice.

For me it has got to be, "Do not eat after 6 pm", and people keep insisting I do it, despite the fact that I have lost a lot of weight eating after 6 pm. A coworker of mine was wondering why I am losing weight despite the fact that I eat after that magical hour and she isn't. But for me, and I suspect for a lot of other people this rule is completely pointless. I finish work at 10:30 pm, and go home at 11:45 pm. My most active hours of the day are actually after 6 pm. There is no way I can have my final meal 8 hours before i fall asleep. There was a dieting community I was part in a year ago, which insisted that you have to stop eating after 6 pm, even if you are doing a night shift. Which simply makes no sense. I was stupid and tried doing it for a few nights last year when I was doing nights, and let me tell you it was torture. i was feeling dizzy af. So this rules if completely pointless. Like sure, give your body maybe an hour or two time to digest before you go to bed, but those arbitrary hours are completely pointless and stupid and your body doesn't care if it's 6 pm or 10 pm or whatever. That coworker of mine keeps eating a lot of cookies and chips but it's before 6 pm, so she thinks it's totally fine.

Second place has to be "Fruits have sugar" and make you fat and it doesn't matter what you eat/drink as long as you exercise. So me and a friend of mine have started getting into shape at around the same time. I count calories and do some light exercise (blogilates has been a blessing), while he goes to the gym and eats whatever. He spends two hours at the gym, and then every day he eats two burgers, 13 chicken nuggets, fries and a a big coke. He drinks a lot of alcohol as well. When I told him what he is doing is completely pointless, he got angry and said "Fruits are bad for you because they have sugar, so they are not much healthier than a burger." I was so confused. i love him to bits, but this is such a weird thing to say. And this is not to say that I haven't indulged ( I prefer this word to binged) into some junk food myself. I have. But I do it in moderation. Also If I spent two hours at the gym, I wouldn't want to tarnish it by eating fast food every day. I don't know why some people believe fruits are bad for you or have sugar while drinking coke. But a lot of other people seem to think fruits are some sugary evil, while a burger and chicken nuggets are not because they have protein.

What are other funny weight loss myths that you have encountered?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Friday, 18 October 2019? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

10 lbs down!!

I don’t think anyone will see this but I just wanna share my progress with someone so I’m posting here. So basically it’s been about two and a half months since I grew increasingly conscious about my weight and really wanted to work hard for my ideal body. I started then but it was my first time so I went on to the quicker but the dangerous path meaning low cals and all. And well as expected i kept getting tired of it and would end up binge eating after like a week. I was also exercising then and was on 1000 cals a day. Then a month after that, with my continuous failures I asked someone abt why i couldn't succeed and would end up binge eating and they told me that I have to stick to a healthy diet because with a 1000 cals one i'm depriving my body of nutrients and minerals. So then I calculated BMI and decided to have 1300 cals a day with around 500 deficit per week. I have been on that diet for a month now. I also exercise regularly and have a cheat day every week when I eat more than 1300 cals but still in moderation. I checked my weight yesterday and I have lost about 10 lbs and I also tried on some clothes to see if I see any difference in my body and YESS I DOO!!! My stomach feels a bit flatter and my collar bones are more prominent. I can also see some positive changes in my thighs and arms. Im really happy! I look way better now and I don't feel the urge to binge eat every week either. I patiently wait for my cheat day and actually enjoy being on this healthy diet. I'm also enjoying my workout routine and look forward to it because it makes me feel healthy and happy! In fact i'm thinking of keeping my workout routines and healthy diet even after I am done with my weight loss journey because I am really seeing all the good it brings. Im really so glad this is working out for me! I only have 10 more lbs to go and then I will be working on maintaining my weight. Wish me luck! Also Im really proud of myself for staying consistent and coming this far. No one in my family really supported me. They were all kinda indifferent towards my efforts and let me do my thing so I had to make sure myself that I am completing my workouts everyday, avoiding junk food, keeping count of my calories, staying within my deficit and just making sure that I stay encouraged and enthusiastic about losing weight. So im really really proud of myself and happy for myself too! And finally, I’m really thankful to that person who advised and guided me when I was down and put me back on the healthy and effective path! I will work hard to cut off another 10lbs and reach my ultimate goal!!

This post turned out to be really long so if anyone is reading it, i congratulate and thank you for making it this far lolol. But on a serious note, I really appreciate it!! :)

I never imagined so many people would reply! This is the first time im sharing my progress here and I am so happy to see positive remarks!! Lots of people said that this encouraged them to continue on their own journeys and so I just wanna respond by saying how all these replies and kind words are also my own motivation to continue on my journey. Thank you so much to all of you for taking some time to read my post and congratulating and encouraging me! I really really appreciate it!!

Something that also really helped my sister with her Weight Lose and Sticking to it is Cinderellasolution it's the only thing she found that actually works for her so I figured it might help someone else!

If you’re thinking losing weight will bring you happiness you’re wrong.

I have hit my goal. I had a short term goal for an event and I did it. Female 5’9, late twenties, started at 196 pounds and I’m at 175lbs today. My ultimate goal is 160-165lbs but I wanted to hit this weight right now and reach the next goal by the end of February. I thought I would be happy. I’m not. However, I’m proud. I am dedicated. I am strong, and healthier, and clearer minded, and leaner, and clothes fit better and I’m wearing stuff I haven’t fit in in several years but.... I’m still not happy. Weight loss can not bring mental joy. It can bring secondary joy because of the things listed above but it will not bring true, deep, unfiltered happiness that comes from your soul. Lots of people mention this on this sub and I just wanted to mention it as well. Don’t lose weight for happiness. I hope mine eventually comes. I know I need to work on my mental health (I’m currently in therapy and toying with the option of antidepressants.) Do it for the health benefits. I can’t deny how great mine have been. I understand the importance of them and don’t discredit that one bit. But, especially for the young women, don’t think for one second that being a certain size will give you worth or happiness. Weight loss will not fulfill your soul.
