I only lost 50-ish pounds, but I have loose skin, what do I do?

I lost 53 pounds last year, thing is I was under the impression you only got loose skin after 100+ weight loss, no matter how fast you lose the weight. But I definitely have loose skin all over! I thought it was livable, but it's really starting to crush my self esteem, it spills over the top of my jeans, and it's making me look saggy.

I'm 5'2, 22, female, I was overweight since childhood if that makes a difference. It's been about a year since I stoped trying to loose weight, I weigh 127, I think that's a healthy weight? Will my skin snap back? if so, how long? Do you guys think it's not even loose skin? Do I just need to exercise more? It's just really getting to me after all that hard work!

How to calculate your daily calorie needs

I'm not new to weight loss by any means, I've been doing it for months now, and ofc in the beginning, I looked at some TDEE calculators to see how many calories I needed every day.

I always used a few different ones since they all gave me slightly different numbers, and I ended up just doing a 1200 calories a day diet to make sure I'm definitely in a deficit. It's been working well for me.

But now I only have a few pounds left to lose and as I'm nearing the maintenance phase, I'm starting to worry more about getting an accurate number. I honestly don't trust all the calculators and would rather calculate it myself.

A little formula that has popped up here and there is 655.1 + (9.6 × weight in kg) + (1.8 × height in cm) - (4.7 × age in years)

This is your BMR, and then you multiply your BMR with 1.2 if you're sedentary, up to 1.7 if you're really active.

I did some calculations, with my current weight, my old weight, goal weight, etc. and I still don't know if I trust the whole thing, bc the numbers that I get out of it seem awfully high (but maybe that's just my brain after thinking in 1200 calories for months).

What is your opinion on this? How do you handle this? Do you trust the calculators? Any tips?

Reconsider Intermittent Fasting/Extended Fasting if whenever you eat you binge

I've recently realized that I needed to take a step back and consider the bigger picture:

Weight loss comes down to consuming fewer calories than you burn.

I realized that when I finish my fasts I think I get to "make-up for" the calories I didn't consume during the hours that I've been fasting. I end up eating like 3k calories for a meal. I realized eating 3 small-moderately sized meals with my family is more effective than one giant meal at the end of the day. Eating this way, I end up consuming 1200 calories a day versus 3,000.

Maybe someone needed to see this and be reminded of the bigger picture. If you've been able to eat a normal amount of calories at the end of your fast, then keep doing what you're doing. It's all about trying things and seeing what works for you. Just some food for thought.

I feel like I’m going backwards

I started my weight loss journey in January and have being doing quite well actually (I found my number disappointed me but I’ve gone from uk size 16 jeans to nearly a uk size 12 and my belt has gone to an XS) but I had my boyfriend with me for all of that and now I’m back at home where all my family are quite large. This means since I’ve been moving from university back home and with quarantine I’ve stopped calorie counting, had more takeaways and stopped going to the gym. I’ve found it hard to motivate myself to move around due to being ill and having flare ups of my disability (h-EDS) during this time. Does anyone have any tips to motivate me? I’ve promised myself to start doing my yoga and body work outs but I’m struggling not to put my progress on hold while this whole COVID-19 stuff blows over.

Can I just eat less i.e. portion control, at least to start?

I’ve started hundreds of times. The starting is the easy part for me. The staying started is where it all falls apart. When I only use CICO and MFP I have wild success, losing 20+ pounds in a month, but then after that first month I lose momentum and revert back to my old ways.

My therapist and I are constantly working on reframing my goal setting mindset by employing the Premack principle, finding areas to slip in little changes or tiny habits as Dr. BJ Fogg says, and focus on Atomic Habits per James Clear. But reprogramming my brain is slow going. I’m making progress but not nearly as quick as I would like. Together we’ve determined that the easiest thing for me to do that has the highest probability of sustained success is to start way way way small and that is by continuing to eat how I’ve always (past 7 years) been eating, just eating less of it. No over stuffing myself, paying extremely close attention to what I’m eating allowing myself to eat what I want just not as much of it. If I want a candy bar I’m still going to eat a candy bar, just maybe not 3 or 4 of them at a time.

Is this stupid? Do I just need to buckle up, keep trying again and again to do CICO religiously, follow my fitness plan to a tee, and just get on with it until it sticks? It hasn’t worked so far but maybe I’m just not trying hard enough? Ultimately I’m trying to find sustained success and weight loss. And for the love of god I just don’t want to start over again. I want to stay started, for good.

I want this so bad and I want to be thin now but I am ready to succumb to what is realistic and most likely for me to achieve success with. I hope once I get going for a while, and stay started, then I can snowball into more and more positive changes like maybe working my way back to CICO and a regimented fitness plan. I just need to get and stay started, for starters.

Any help, tips, guidance, constructive criticism, and pep talks would be most appreciated. I feel like I’m drowning here, paralyzed in self doubt and fear of yet another failure.

Some advice on what is realistic in terms of weight loss please. Help on macros too please.

I am currently at 177 and I am trying to lose weight. I want to lose weight in the fastest way possible including moderate exercise and dieting. Is is realistic to lose 2lbs per week and drop to 140. So 37/2 = 18.5 weeks / 4 = 4.6 months so roughly 4.5 months to reach 140. I am lost on what type of macros I should have during weight loss. I obviously know that I should eat at a calorie deficit, but I dont know what my macros should look like. I read somewhere that it is essential to have a low carb intake and high protein and fat intake. Is this true? I am lost on what my macros should look like can you guys please help me?

Thank you to each and every one of you in advance (:

Please help me help my cat

My 5 year old cat has always been lazy, but he didn't have much of an appetite before neutering. His appetite was so low that we'd have to give him 20-30 pieces of temptations treats to maintain his weight. He weighed 10.8-11 pounds prior to neutring.

We got him neutered 12/24/19. Since then, he just loves to eat. From January to February of this year, he gained 1.5 pounds and is currently 12.5. All of March, I've had him on a diet to maintain his weight. At the start of March, we'd give him half a cup to 2/3 or a cup of Purina Naturals and 5 pieces of Temptation treats spread throughout the day. We'd split the 2/3 cup of food into 5 mini meals for him. This food restriction made him very depressed. Last week, we switched him over to Iams weight control food, and the suggested serving size is 2/3 of a cup for weight loss. We have been giving him 2/3 of a cup divided throughout the day with the 5 pieces of treats, but he's still very hungry. He smells all around the house looking for any piece of food. I even saw him licking the carpet in desperation. Yesterday, for his birthday, I let him free feed. He ate ~ 1.5-1.75 cups of Iams weight loss food, which is much above his maintenance. I don't know what to do about this.

He also refuses to eat wet food. My husband and I resorted to putting him on a harness and taking him outside to increase his physical activity, but he is afraid of being outside. He doesn't like most cat toys, except the laser and a phone charger (he loves to bite the small end!). He doesn't play for long before wanting to stop. I even try to give him some cat nip every other day to make him more active.

I posted in r/cats, but my post was removed because my account is fairly new.
