1. Hydrate Well

Drinking water is always an important step in weight loss. It can be common to mistake thirst for hunger, which may lead to overeating. But your need for water may ramp up in the summertime if you’re spending more hours outside and sweating more often.

We understand that keeping up with the demands of drinking can be difficult, but we’ve got lots of tips on how to drink more water throughout your day. Besides promoting weight loss, regular water consumption also helps increase your energy, fight off fatigue and keep your immune system functioning as it should.

Infused water recipes that combine H2O with fruits, veggies and fresh herbs is a great way to stay hydrated in the summer heat. But you need not only get your water from drinking! You can also consume hydrating foods like cucumber and celery.

2. Get Active Outdoors

The warmer weather presents the perfect opportunity to start spending more time outside. It also opens up a whole new range of outdoor exercise opportunities. There’s swimming, kayaking, hiking or even just more time for walking in the sunshine!

If you’re hitting the beach this summer, you might also want to make time for these calorie-burning activities. Beach volleyball, paddleball, swimming or just walking on the beach can really torch calories. However, they’re activities you’ll enjoy enough that you won’t realize you’re getting lean in the process!

3. Fire Up the Grill

The warmer weather also means grilling season is here! We love grilling because it helps add delicious flavor to lean proteins, vegetables and even fruit, which in turn makes it easier to fill up on healthy foods.

Just be careful that you do really make healthy choices. In general, social BBQs can be a pitfall to your healthy eating plan if they’re grilling up regular burgers, dogs or brats. Sides like potato salad or chips can also be diet detours. Instead, try some of these simple tips to stay on track at the BBQ, which includes ideas like bringing your own meat or even making some of the sides yourself! The host will be happy for the help and you’ll be able to stick to your healthy eating plans.

4. Visit the Local Farmers Market

As summertime rolls along, this is a great time to take advantage of the fresh local produce at farmers markets and farm stands. Pick up some seasonal summer foods, such as local peaches or zucchini. Delicious ingredients like these make summer weight loss easy and you’ll feel good about the food you’re eating.

Better yet, try your hand and growing some produce in your own backyard! Even you’ve never done much gardening before, tomatoes are a great place to start. They’re relatively easy to grow and will give you nice bounty! Check out these 10 home gardening tips for beginners that are straight from our gardening expert.

5. Take Your Meal Outdoors

One of the best aspects of warmer weather is the opportunity to dine al fresco! Eating outdoors on a deck or patio can really add to your overall enjoyment. But you can also take the opportunity to slow down and be mindful about your eating. Enjoy the sun, the sounds of the birds chirping or the dog or kids playing in the yard. Take in the sights and sounds and slow down your pace of eating.

A number of studies, including one published in BMJ Open, have shown that eating more slowly can help with weight loss. One of the reasons this may be the case is that we tend to eat past fullness when we eat too fast. We eat more than we really need to before our brains can register that we’re full.

6. Get Meals Delivered

Seeking advice for weight loss during half marathon training

I ran a half marathon earlier this year to 1) have something to train for to get me back in shape 2)feel excited about running again 3) hopefully lose some weight. The first two goals were achieved, but I only lost 4 or 5 pounds during the training which took place across 4 months. I've read that it's actually hard to lose weight while training for a long distance race because how much fuel your body needs.

I want to do another half this September with the intention of being able to get to my goal weight or close to it during the training. Is it possible/safe to do this while shooting for a sub 1:50:00 pace?

Thanks!

Struggling to Lose Weight (21 y/o, F, 4’11, CW: 145 lb)

I am 21, 4’11 F, and a college student still figuring out time management lol. I starved myself for a weight loss challenge back in the summer of 2020—only to find out it was unsustainable. At the beginning of the weight loss challenge in June 2020, I weighed in at 129.9 lb, and dropped to 110 lb by the end in August 2020. 2 years later, I’m now at 145 lb and struggling to lose weight, realizing that my metabolism is way slower than back then. Some sources of exercise that I do is 24 Hour Fitness and OrangeTheory, but I’ve found it harder to work out due to knee pain especially with high impact exercises in OrangeTheory. Also, one thing about me is that I LOVE my sweets and I’m sure that if I were to cut out sweets from my diet, it would contribute to weight loss. I know I have some work cut out for me, but any tips on how to regain my metabolism back and advice on weight loss considering these circumstances? Thank you!

70+ pounds down alot more to go

Started this journey 2 years ago decided enough was enough so I bought a scale... Oh boy I was not prepared! The last time I weighed in I was around 300 I thought.... So No way I've gained that much right? Wrong!! stepped on the brand new scale after eating a delicious roburrito burrito mind you and clocked in at 358 pounds......wow I thought.... This scale is junk that can't be right. Sure enough my roommate at the time stepped on the scale and went "wow I've lost weight". Forgot to mention my old roommate is around the same age and height as me. Sooooo the scale was right and I knew I had to do something! So I went all out losing 30 pounds in a couple months going to the gym everyday and it worked.....well at first.... I gave up! fell into old habits again... and shot back up in weight to almost the exact same weight I started at! I was hovering around 350 pounds, my pulse and bp were through the roof, and I felt like shit all the time!..... mind you I'm only 24! So I decided I can't stick to a strict diet and exercise plan and decided to focus on cico and eat whatever I want! Surprise! that didn't really work either. So after gaining and losing the same 10 pounds, and Seeing multiple physicians and therapists I had multiple huge life changing events rock my world....it has changed my whole perspective on how I approach weight loss now. I decided I'm no longer losing weight because I don't want things to happen to me (type 2 diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, etc...) but rather I wanted to be healthy, I wanted to feel comfortable In my own skin, I want to be around for my family!..... Everything has changed, and my whole relationship with food is completely different. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have to aproach weight loss with the right mindset, and more than half the battle Is mental....the sooner you find out why you eat like you do the sooner you can make the lifestyle changes to fix it, And thanks to my new lifestyle I am well on my way to my goals! Oh I almost forgot to tell you my current weight is 272 and still dropping! My pulse and bp are all back to normal, and I feel soo much better than I did when I was 358! Hopefully I can come back to this post when I reach my goal weight and reflect on what an amazing journey this has been.

Thoughts on Prescription Pills 💊

What are your thoughts on prescription pills for weight loss? My psychiatrist was concerned about my steady weight gain over time, despite efforts to lose weight. She prescribed me a very low dose of topamax.

For perspective, I struggle with bipolar disorder. I am also on lithium and abilify. Both are HUGE appetite boosters, at least for me. I have tried counting calories in the past, but I have failed, because my hunger pangs would just get in the way.

I'm on Day 2 of the topamax. So far, my head hurting has made me want to eat less. 😂 I'm also logging what I eat in the Lose It app--not so much with the goal of counting calories, but just to get an idea of what I eat (for now anyway).

I'd love to hear your thoughts and perspectives on this. As a side note, I am NOT a proponent of OTC weight loss supplements. In fact, I'm not even sure how I feel about prescription weight loss pills. Feels kinda like a cop out to me. Idk how else to explain it.

Take the progress pictures!

When I first started my weight loss journey at 277 lbs (5'6 F, 32 years old) I HATED the idea of progress pictures but did it to push myself. As weight came off I noticed the scale move quickly.

As I have lost more weight, as for most people, progress is slower in regards to the number on the scale. I weight train and do HIIT at F45, and my trainers are always pushing me to stop focusing on my weight because it's only one indicator, particularly when building muscle. But we are SO conditioned to that number and where we want it to be.

These pictures are from April to July of this year. There is only a 9 lb difference between them, but the difference seems more. Seeing this progress for myself, I'm finally accepting the number DOESNT tell the full story.

I wanted to post because I know so many of us struggle with photos and avoid them.

But take the picture. You will be glad you did!

Is my calorie intake healthy for my weight loss

Hi guys,

I’m 6ft 2, 20 years old. So I was 95kg, down to 90kg, but I’m wondering if my calorie intake is healthy and safe?

Usually, before my diet, I’d say I was eating in around 2200-2500 per day. Now, I am having around 1800 per day to lose weight. Truth is, I do want to lose weight fast cos I’m fed up of having man boobs. But I want to ensure that this intake is safe for me and I won’t plateaux or become Ill.

I have increased my protein intake, and decreased carbs. Kept vegetables the same so I get all the vitamins.

Interested to know your responses. Cheers
