Winter is almost here! How are you planning to keep your weight loss train rolling?

For those living in northern hemisphere, winter is almost here. Days will be shorter and colder. How are you planning to keep your routine and find more activities indoor/outdoor in cold weather?

I personally was a lot less active during last winter and had recently moved to a place where it does not snow to a place where it snows a lot. I gained few lbs during winter due to laziness and inactivity. This summer has been great for me and I have lost around 14 % of my body weight. I want to keep this train rolling instead of getting lazy again due to shorter and colder days (more indoor activity and outdoor running with proper layers!). I would love to hear your ideas/goals for this winter!

Getting back into it and finding motivation

Hey y'all.

So I started my weight loss journey back in January at 253lbs. The reason I started seriously trying to lose weight (and actually did for the first time in my life) was because I had accomplished a long time dream of mine of marching a world class drum corps. For those that don't know, this is a summer long, physically intensive activity that I most definitely was not prepared for, and I knew the better the shape I was in when it started, the easier it would be and the more fun I would have. So I started CICO, and .... it was actually working! I was losing weight. By the time May move-ins rolled around I was just above 210lbs. I decided to not worry about counting calories and losing weight while marching because of how physically active I was going to be. By the time it was over I was down to about to 205lbs, just five pounds away from my long term goal of being 199.9lbs (something I had previously thought was impossible).

However, since I have been back I have been struggling to maintain that caloric deficit. I just can't seem to get into the mindset again. Over the summer, I would take 25,000 to 35,000 steps every single day while wearing a marching drum. I literally ate whatever I wanted and a lot of it. And didn't gain. Since I have been back at school, I have actually gained back up to 216lbs. I realized today that the reason I was able to stay focused was that I had an end goal in mind. I need to find a goal. I will hit 199.9lbs!!! For me. Sorry if this has been ramble-y. This post was more for me, but I just had to put what I was feeling into words, and I figured this was the best place to do it. Thanks for reading y'all!

Yo-Yo dieter would love your advice

I’ve struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. A bit about me - I’m a 22 year old female, 5ft 3 and currently 228lbs.

I’ve always thought I was ‘fat’ from when I was a little girl. When I was 13, I developed anorexia and recovered around 16, since then my weight has been up and down. I’ve followed diets such as slimming world and been really successful, before leaving and putting all the weight back on again and more.

I should also add, that I was in a long term relationship between the ages of 13 and 19, which became emotionally abusive in the latter years. I won’t get into all the finer details, but basically, as I was recovering from my eating disorder he kept telling me I was getting bigger and bigger and needed to do something about it. He also went so far as to say he had been ‘deceived’ as I was skinny when we met and I had put on weight since then, so he was led to fall in love with someone who I no longer was. ANYWAY, thankfully I no longer have that toxicity in my life and I am in an extremely happy relationship with someone who loves me for who I am.

I am not at a healthy weight - there is no debating that and I know I need to lose weight. The difference this time is that, I’m doing it for health reasons and not because someone is pressuring me due to aesthetic reasons. There is a history of diabetes and heart disease in my family and I would like to do all I can to mitigate the risks of me suffering from these things. Since my current partner and I have been together, we have both put on a lot of weight due to comfort, becoming complacent and eating a lot of chocolate and takeaways! We have now both decided to make a change and will be supporting each other in our venture to lose weight.

My goal would be to lose 100lbs - my starting weight was 240lbs and I’ve lost 12lbs over the past 2 weeks.

The reason for my post is that I would love some motivation and advice for how to keep this up and stick at this and any helpful tips or ideas (basically anything you think may help). I would also like any advice on keeping my weight loss trigger free and to stop me falling back into old habits.

Does Pasta seem to massively influence effects on weight loss?

Hey guys,

Maybe I'm being a bit extreme here but I'm not so sure. Are you meant to have say a hardcap limit on how much pasta you consume in a week for instance? I try to limit the portion to 50g once a week but sometimes I'll add a plate on another day, this week for instance I'll have a total of 150g pasta in the whole week, is that too much?

Gonna toss in a humble brag here but so far managed to lose 45kg from 144KG so it's a start, I feel like I might be hitting a plateau at 101KG though so I'm not sure if I Just need to wait it out or if there's a certain food I might need to limit which I'm suspecting to be Pasta.

Would it be okay for me to use a protein shake/powder as one source of protein during weight loss?

I started losing weight in January of this year and in the beginning I was COMPLETELY about CICO. I barely changed my diet at all, bar cutting out snacks and fast food. I ate all of the same foods at home and I didn't put any thought into my macronutrients. Then a few months later I slowly started to make better food choices and started exercising.

I'm now at the point where I'm doubling down on the quality of the food I'm eating and my portion sizes. I've always been a fan of meal replacement shakes and bars, because I like convenience. I'm wondering if it would be acceptable and healthy for me to use protein powder or a protein shake as one of my sources of protein during weight loss?

I really want to maintain what little muscle I have and if possible I would also like to build muscle ever so slightly whilst working towards my goal weight. However I don't want to try and stick to a strict fitness-centric diet because I'm afraid that'll throw me off of my weight loss. I think that some sort of power, shake or replacement would be beneficial to me but I'm unsure of the realities.

Question about CICO with intermittent fasting

I’ve been tracking all calories while also doing IF. Other than half and half in my morning coffee (60 calories), all of my intake happens between 4 and 10 pm (I usually go to bed at 12). This is the best window for me since I find it much easier to avoid eating during the day than at night.

My question is this: assuming this is not the “ideal” window and that you’re supposed to stop eating earlier, how much am I hindering my weight loss efforts by eating so late?

I want to do this as efficiently as possible (maximize weight loss based on my caloric deficit), but I also want to avoid a battle with myself every night.
