Weight Loss help (I'll fill you in the details down below)

Hello all, let me just start by saying that I'm new at this up till today never really been here on reddit so sorry for some possible newby mistakes.

Now without beating around the bushes I put up a lot of weight, about 50-70kg (gained 110 pounds roughly), last year found out I had a tumor on my leg when I fell from a boat doing a dumb Deadpool move and hit my leg on the side, thankfully it's benign and I had few doctor appointments that were your standar exams and how we would go about surgery given at the time pain was manageable, however fate struck and everything got pushed due to the pandemic, given my leg giving me excruciating pains if I try to do anything that straining I simply became too fond of my couch and chair, at first I didn't really bat an eye or really noticed it but slowly and surely reality started to set in.

This reddit got recomended to me by a friend so decided to give it a shot, I don't really drink any form of alchool except a pint or three every few months, I do smoke a pack a week even though starting to stop and food wise my main problem is that I noticed I started to binge whenever the pain medication starts to wear off but that I am starting to control aswell.

How would I go about to shed some weight? There are some habits I'm starting to do to help me, bit more self control to not binge and a grooming routine in small steps. My one gripe is that doing exercise is just painful, afaik my next exam is still months away and I would like to lose weight because I already know that recovery after surgery is going to make me be bed bound for a while.

(edit)
Uber eats didn't help me much if I'm being honest, or acess fast food given I at the time simply wouldn't bother to cook actual food and not fast stuff)

Any help is welcome

Thank you in the advance,(I might be late to answear some people due to festivities but I will do it soon as I can)

Really curious to hear from those who always had a 'chonky' body type and have managed to get rid of it!

I've always had that typically "chubby" body type. I was a fat baby and just kinda..stayed that way. I've never been hugely overweight (currently at highest weight of 158lbs at 5'5) and I'm told that I carry my weight well and don't look as heavy as I actually am. I carry it all in my arms/legs/neck/face so while I manage to keep a slim waist, I always look horrible in photos because I'm really pale and you can see is ghostly white glowing chonkyness. I avoid cameras at all costs because it seriously destroys my self esteem every time I see a photo of myself.

The lowest weight I've managed to get down to in my adult life is about 140lbs and although I definitely look better at a lower weight, I still have the same issue of having fat limbs. I've never been able to get to lower than this, it seems my body just doesn't want to, however I'll be the first to admit that I have a terrible sugar addiction and eat a lot of junk, which obviously needs to be remedied.

I'm really curious to hear from those who managed to get rid of their supposed chubby body type through weight loss / exercise and would love to see a before and after photo.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Friday, 25 December 2020? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

My mother destroyed all the self esteem I worked so hard to build.

My mother first started telling me to lose weight in elementary school, when I was at a perfectly healthy weight. I began the cycle of crash dieting in middle school, and by high school I fully believed my appearance was disgusting due to being about 15 lbs overweight. Throughout my childhood, my mother would tell me how pretty I would be if I lost weight. Once I hit college, I gained a bunch of weight and ended up at 246 lbs. The interesting thing is, despite gaining over 100 lbs, I never noticed a change in my appearance.

After starting therapy, I decided to put an end to crash dieting and to my mother’s comments. I started learning to love myself and explained to my mom she has no place in my weight loss journey anymore. And in 2020, I lost 35 lbs.

In the past week, my mother had started making snide comments about my weight again. Anytime she saw me eating even slightly unhealthy, she would say “I didn’t realize you were trying to commit suicide.” I finally had enough and confronted her.

She began crying and told me I had gained so much weight in the last few months that I was going to die of diabetes before I hit 30. She said she cannot look at me without being disgusted by how fat I am. She said she sees commercials for the show “1000 lb Sisters” and knows that’s where I will end up. When I tried to tell her I’d lost weight, she told me I was lying. She could see I had gained weight.

For the first time in my life, I had been seeing a change in myself as I lost weight. I would catch glimpses of myself in the mirror and think hot damn, I look cute today. I can’t look at my reflection anymore. I disgust myself. I know I’ve lost weight, not gained it, but what I see no longer matches with what I know. I know my mother can be cruel, but I didn’t think I could feel this much pain over something she’s said. I’m honestly at a loss of what to do.

One thing I do know, she says she can’t look at me without seeing my weight, well I can’t look at her without remembering this conversation.

Not proud of weight loss accomplishment?

SW: 384 CW: 243 GW: 220 (for now?). Hello, I started my weight loss journey last September. I started with counting calories, added intermittent fasting a few months later and then transitioned into keto 10 months ago. While everyone around me is amazed and proud of what I've done, for some reason I cannot step back and take a look at myself to be proud of what I've done. A part of me is scared that I'll go back to where I was weight-wise, I'm also nervous that this is all temporary and I could go back to where I was before I started my weight loss journey. Maybe I'm also kind of in shock as to what I've done and don't want to face it? My wife has joined me in my journey and has lost 60 pounds herself. I should be proud of all of this but for some reason I'm not. Could it also be that I'm not satisfied until I get to my current goal weight? What do you guys think? Sorry for the rambling!

TLDR; Lost 140 pounds but don't feel proud of my accomplishments due to either denial that it happened or fear of losing focus and returning to my starting weight.

Advice with not overdoing it on Christmas??

I just looked at my weight on the scale a few minutes ago, and I've gained a few pounds over the last couple of weeks. It's encouraged me to get started on my weight loss goals ASAP. Being that tomorrow is Christmas, I know I won't hit a caloric deficit, but I would like to break even and not go overboard on the sweets. Any advice for doing this?

I'm a 135 lb 21 yr old girl looking to get down to about 120 lbs at least. I've gained probably 5-6 pounds in this last month, and I'm worried about continuing to gain. I'm thinking drinking 2 cups of water before each meal would help? At least that could be a start
