CPAP and weight loss?

I was recently diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea and am currently starting on my CPAP machine. It's been a struggle and I'm looking for some additional motivation.

The doctor, as well as online resources say that getting onto CPAP often results in weight loss, so I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this and whether it affected your weight.

I'm currently at 290 lbs (6'2") and have been unsuccessfully trying to lose weight for years. My weight gain coincides with when I was first told I stop breathing in my sleep, but I always thought apnea is caused by weight gain, when now I'm realizing it might be the other way around.

Christmas eating, you can be in control and still enjoy the food!!!

Was just having some Christmas Eve snacks, and I realised that I had subconsciously portioned things out into what I believe was healthy(ish) portions!! I am eating when I’m genuinely a bit peckish and stopping when I’m full, another win.

Last year I’d just eat things like tortilla chips/crackers/chocolate straight from the pack until a 6 serving size bag was gone!

Using a plate and eyeballing (not the most accurate but I sure am not pulling out the food scale on Christmas Eve!) the portions makes me feel just in control yet also like I’m fully enjoying my Christmas.

Also anyone else not calorie counting (or whatever weight loss tool you use) at all over Christmas? I’ve lost my streak on lifesum now cause I’m not counting.... ah well

I’ve only been on a weight loss journey for about 7 weeks and lost 7 pounds, so I’m happy if I maintain over this period, weight loss will always be there for me in January!

Merry Christmas everyone 😁

Lost 20 pounds since August! Not great, but proud. An embarrassing question though...

So, I'm a 5'8" 18 year old guy, roughly 255 lb. I started my weight loss journey in August and lost around 20 pounds, which isn't incredible progress but I'm proud. I've done some research, kept a mostly consistent diet and been getting into all the physical activity I need to feel good. And I do feel good—great, even. Though I should probably start looking around for more specific tips on how to drop weight in specific areas of my body, so that's something to work on soon.

But one thing that's been niggling at the back of my mind is the same thing that bothers most guys: my penis. So as you can tell, this is a burner account, so Imma be frank: 4.2 inches erect as it stands. Below average, fairly okay, to look at, whatever. I don't much care about it in the sexual sense, if I'm being honest, but there's still that macho part of me that wants to have a bigger dick. And I've looked into all the stuff about fat pads at in my pubis burying my penis and it's definitely possible. I know for a fact by now that it tends to sorta sink in there when flaccid, which I also can ascertain isn't normal for men. It's fairly buried, but thankfully not as buried as it is for other people.

So my question is: how much should my penis 'grow' once I reach my ideal weight? The most consistent number I've read is roughly 1-2 inches of penis is revealed every 30-50 pounds of weight loss. I do have pretty large legs/thighs and my pubis is pretty full, yeah, but not as full as other photos I've seen of people with intense buried penis syndrome. Which makes me think: maybe my penis isn't even really that buried? I'd be happy with what I have, sure, but I'd also likely be happier down the line if I get it to feel and measure out like a 5 incher, or even 6 if I'm lucky.

So yeah. This is in part a vent about my worries, but I know that if I see the results down there I'd feel a great deal happier about myself. I know that once I do lose the weight it'll still look and feel bigger, even if there isn't any real significant difference.

But I guess the question still stands for people who have been through the same thing: how much of an affect DOES weight loss actually have on your penis?

Weight Loss Partner/Mentor

Tl;dr - Motivated 180lb male (5’5”) looking for an accountability buddy or mentor w/ similar stats to share weight loss journey. DM me and let’s connect on how to help reach our goals!

Hey everyone! I’m thankful for this community and I’m trying to get in the habit of sharing more on here. (In the spirit of renewed motivation, I created a new account.)

Having gone from 180lbs down to 160lbs over multiple cycles, I find myself near 180lbs again. Many of the successful stories on here as well as my past successes have a common theme of integrating an accountability system (friend, nutritionist, etc.) So I’m looking to connect with a buddy or mentor from this community who once started or is currently starting in the same range of personal stats. Open to weekly check-ins, recipe/workout trades, one-time advice on a cadence that fits our schedules and accountability needs.

A little more about my weight loss journey - I’ve had a strong connection to food since I was young and I find much joy in eating (mostly eating out with friends but also binging alone). With such an emotional attachment to food, I’ve begun to realize I have an unhealthy relationship with eating and I’m looking to really examine and resolve this issue. When I turned 20, I signed up for a personal trainer and this helped me learn the basics of exercise and dropped my weight down to 160lbs with disciplined eating during the week. I gained the weight back in a year of college and had another round of dropping to 160lbs and gaining it back. I’m now at a point where I actually enjoy working out/being active, and I like the thought of healthy meals. But I also still love all the unhealthy foods and haven’t left my bad eating habits behind me. I intend to track calories daily on MFP and build new habits of exercise while deconstructing my bad habits of binging junk food.

If you find yourself in a relatable position, let’s connect and help each other reach our goals! Here’s to a healthier you, me, and community! Let’s get it!

Couple questions regarding weight loss

So I've been losing a lot of weight. I'm counting calories in my head and working out everyday. One thing I do that I want an opinion on is that somedays I might eat pretty unhealthy. Depending on the day I could possibly eat around 3000-3500 calories (not often). Then the next day I eat a bit less than I usually do. Note I do not starve myself. But lets say if I usually tend to shoot for 2000 calories I might shoot for 1500 to try to balance out some of the overeating I did. So far this has worked fine but is this not going to work well when I lose enough weight?

Also I eat vegetables everyday and am getting my nutrients. But sometimes I feel lazy. Is there really anything wrong with eating a protein cookie with 470 calories for lunch on those days if I'm still eating a lot of vegetables and eating a proper breakfast/dinner?

ONE last question. Some days I want a bigger lunch so I skip out on breakfast and wait till lunch time. Is this bad for my metabolism or is it fine to just skip out on breakfast some days?

Thanks for anyone that read. I am 6'5 270 pounds if that matters.

My roommate has an ED, but I want to lose weight.

Hi, I'm a college student who has always been overweight since late MS early high school. This is the heaviest I've ever been, (currently 5'4 159-161 depending on bloating etc) and I'm currently home for the holidays, where I can eat fairly healthy because my family is also on somewhat of a weight loss journey. When I'm at my apartment near school though, I want to stock my pantry with low calorie alternatives and limit junk food, but my roommate has the completely opposite goal while she tries to recover from her eating disorder, and it's so tempting to just snack all day if I can. Part of it is that we split groceries, so we share everything and it would be kind of an expense (but affordable for me) if we started to do things separately. But she's also a good friend of mine and I don't want to inhibit her recovery or fill the house with foods that trigger her and make her worse. I really want to go into next year with healthy habits and work towards a body that I love and feel comfortable in, but I don't want to do it at her expense. Is this possible? Any advice would be really appreciated.

those last 15-20 lbs? (F40 5’5” SW230 CW167)

looooooong time lurker first time poster. first off this sub saved my life....so thank you to each and every person who’s been a part of this community.

i’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. three years ago i stopped setting weight loss goals and instead set fitness goals. i signed up for a half marathon (had never run more than a mile) and committed to a 20 week run/walk training plan. i (very slowly) finished the half, and had lost about 15 lbs.

i then discovered this sub and started CICO and all of the various tricks to change how i think about food, including finding an amazing therapist. i proceeded to get down to my current weight over the course of about two years.

i’ve been maintaining (up and down from about 163-170 through 2020. i’ve stayed very active - lift weights at home 2-3x a week and i’m about to hit 500 miles run for the year. i have MAYBE a drink a week now that everything is closed and cook the majority of my meals at home.

i’ve tried IF. cal counting. same lunch/bfast. all the tricks i’ve learned over the last few years but it’s like i can’t shock my body into dropping these last 15-20 that i want to lose.

what advice do folks have who’ve been super plateaued for a while? i know it’s likely going to be “get super strict” with CICO but honestly just hearing your own stories of breaking through will help me, just like all the other stories i’ve read from this sub over the years.
