Am I really facing a multi-year slog?

I'll begin by admitting openly that I know that I've allowed myself to get into this position. I'm a 28 year old male who eats away his feelings and is more sedentary than a sloth. As such, I'm now pushing probably the 330 pound mark and I'm at a point where I realize that something has to change.

I've been looking through some weight loss subs to get inspiration and learn from others examples and I find myself being more disheartened than inspired. Most people I see in my situation show before and after photos years apart, sometimes more than 5 years. I fully realize that I'm not going to lose years worth of bad eating habits and no exercise in a week, but am I really facing years of struggling with poor eating habits and sore muscles to turn this gargantuan ship around?

calorie deficit not adding up to the scale?

hey guys, hope everyone is well. This morning I decided to weigh myself to make sure I was on the right track with my weight loss efforts. If I was, then I was to be at 185 or lower today but I was at 187.2. I know when looking at it, it doesn't seem half too bad and I'm am still very proud of myself for getting there however I should be lower. I am doing a 2lb weight loss every week and so I make sure to eat a little less than my deficit, like ill add 500 or a little more to compensate for food I went and ate out for, just in case there restaurant calories were not accurate. Not only this but I have been having trouble with my salt intake. I think I eat too much salt or carbs. My carbs end up being over 243 everyday and my sodium at over 2000+ every day. Although I stay in a deficit. Not only this but ill eat my last meal and lay down right after. Last night I tried to reduce my sodium to 1600+ knowing I would weigh myself today, but my carbs were like at 243g. I also ate my last meal and laid down soon after. I also have a Fitbit and I don't know if it was telling me the wrong calories of something. Did any of this affect the scale or am I at a plateau because I can't be at one, It not possible I don't think. i havent ate anything yet so should i go weigh myself again or have i been up too long?

Thank you in advance!

Looking for Advice (F30)

F30 (5'6" - SW 172 / GW 140) I'm looking for suggestions for how to lose weight by mid March (and continue to maintain thereafter). Even if I don't lose the full 30 pounds, even if I lose half of that, I will consider it a success. I know it's a high benchmark considering my starting weight and that it can sometimes take up to a year for women specifically to reach their goal in a healthy way. My idea is to do CICO and exercise 3-5 times a week. I am planning on cutting: breads, alcohol, processed foods and sugars and a lot of dairy although I want to keep eating Greek yogurt for the probiotics and protein and reward myself with something cheesy on my "cheat" days which I plan to be on Saturdays (I still plan on cutting out alcohol and processed food and sugars these days too). The hardest part for me that I've found in sticking to my weight loss plan is the motivation and dedication. I am a teacher and find the stress of my job makes it difficult to maintain my eating plans, especially if I forget my lunch and have to go out, or if I'm just really sick of the monotonous meals and want to "treat" myself for how hard I'm working. I also just love comfort food. The weekends are the most difficult especially if I don't feel like cooking and order out. Beer and wine is also super calorie dense which is why I'm cutting that out too. I've gone 4 weeks now without alcohol but have unfortunately replaced with super unhealthy foods and diet soda so have not lost any weight simply due to that.

A little background - I have an athletic build, but carry most of my weight in my belly, butt/thighs and starting to see in my neck and biceps. I think the fact that I still have tiny wrists, ankles and a long face I simply accepted my weight for the past few years even though I continue to gain due to various factors and the past 2 years have been really unhappy with how I look. I used to play a ton of sports growing up, mostly soccer, but stopped playing when I went to college. My smallest size in college, even after I gained the freshman 15, was a size 4. I am now at a tight size 8.

Not sure if any of that information is helpful, but I'm also looking for anyone who understands my dilemma and has gone through a similar situation. How do you stay motivated? What do you eat that is still "comforting" but low calorie and no-guilt?

I am starting today, instead of waiting for the new year, so I can get a head start. And, my mom wants to lose weight with me starting Jan 1, so I'd like to stay motivated so I can help her, too. Thank you everyone!!

People who've succeeded in maintaining a long term significant weight loss, how did your beliefs change?

I'm fascinated how much our own beliefs affect our daily lives and our abilities to reach our goals. I've found that just by challenging my current beliefs and adopting a new belief, big changes are possible. I've applied this to relationships especially and seen a big improvement (for example, I would change my belief from good relationships are rare to good relationships are common etc.). But with relationship beliefs I had a lot of people with great relationships around me to observe to come up with new beliefs and more importantly evidence for those new beliefs. I haven't really encountered that many people who've had successful weight loss so I thought I'd ask here.

TLDR: if you've succeeded & maintained a big weight loss, how did your beliefs about weight and weight loss change and what are your beliefs about weight and weight loss now?

20 year old bloke who needs help

I’m gonna skip the bull shit and just come out saying I’m in my 140 kgs currently, maybe just below. I was on this weight loss program where I had two meal shakes a day and then dinner but was turned off them after someone told me they just make it easier to gain weight after you stop them. While I like to think my fitness is good for my weight I’m just after some basics exercises or what not to help boost my motivation and shit. Also where to look for the right and wrong food to eat, was actually on a Keto diet for a couple months which I dropped 10 kilos, but I became a uni student and some of the Keto replacement products i were using in my meals were just too much for a student (with my finances anyways). I get I might get told to go somewhere and seek help from professionals but I’d thought I might try my hand here.

Time to improve my life so I can love myself.
