Should I lose the weight?

20 F 178cm and 90kg

For starters, let me preface this by saying that yes, I do have a history of disordered eating and have for most of my life. I've done treatment for many years but all the way throughout I still struggled with the idea of being the weight am. I now consider myself recovered as ,mentally, I don't experience the same level of turmoil that I used to but I still I want to lose at least 10-20kg or until I look or feel better in my body.

I want to see if losing weight will help my physical health problems as I'm dealing with several severe chronic illnesses and have high genetic cholesterol for which I'm on statins. Unfortunately, one of my chronic illnesses makes me ill the more physical activity I do so I am mostly sedentary as doing too much can make me bedbound. I used to love being able to work out or go on walks but I just can't anymore and I'm a wheelchair user which upsets me. I also have pcos/pmos which I also think is a huge barrier in losing weight for me as I've really tried everything; when I was able to be more active managed to lose.

I'm struggling with eating in general. I know it's a comfort thing and I stim (I'm autistic) by eating different textures. I'd say, depending on the day and how I feel, I eat anywhere from 1000 to 2700 calories a day but I don't really count. I tend to only eat one big meal in the evening consisting of whatever is easily accessible to me when my symptoms aren't too heavy, usually beige foods or salmon with roasted veg I've pre-portioned and frozen. I also snack though I'm trying to reduce it buy not buying them anyway but I end up spiralling and buying them anyway. Then it becomes a case of I have to eat them all now so I don't eat it later. My usual snacks are popcorn, salt and vinegar crisps and crackers. I'm trying to have them in moderation by allowing myself a small snack plate in the evening so I'm not completely excluding them from my diet.

I sometimes go long periods of fasting and curb my appetite by drinking coffee and tea and I actually enjoy fasting when my mind isn't so honed in on food. I want to do more fasting but it really flares up my chronic illness symptoms so I have to stop before I feel more ill.

I feel like I don't know how to properly engage with weight loss healthily as so much of my behaviour is determined by my previous eating disorder behaviours. I know what methods work really well but they almost killed me and I don't want to go through that again but weight loss in general feels like a slippery slope back to relapse.

I want to lose weight for my sense of self. I want to be okay with what I see in the mirror. I've been overweight for most of my life and I've been 90kg for years at this point. I just want to get down to 70, maybe even 60 and see how I feel.

I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't even pursue weight loss due to how my brain is.

Be honest with me but be nice, any comments are welcome. What do you think I should or could do to help myself?

Redditors who felt their weight loss was much slower than it should have been, what did you eventually discover you were doing wrong that solved the problem?

So we’ve all been there. Weight loss is going much slower than you want, but more importantly, much slower than it should be.

“Stick with it and keep going” is probably the most common advice, but for those of you who eventually figured out what was actually wrong, what was it and how did you fix it?

For example, maybe you think that Starbucks coffee is only 100 calories, but then you realize you were looking at the wrong nutrition line on the website and it’s actually 600 calories. Suddenly, you understand why your weight hasn’t moved for the past month.

So what was it for you? A misunderstanding? Incorrect labeling? A medical condition? A scale with a dying battery?

Struggling already in week 1

Hey!

As the title says, I just started a weight loss journey almost one week ago. I really have no motivation to do this, as I know it’s going to be very hard. I lost about 25 kg some years ago, but life happened and I gained it back plus some more. I’m starting to get health complications as a result of my weight, so my doctor strongly encourages me to lose weight. Still, I struggle a lot with motivation. Food has always been my zoloft, my comfort, and taking that comfort away is very hard for me.

I randomly decided to start focusing on it last Wednesday. No big life change, no eureka-moment. Just decided to start. I redownloaded cronometer and set the calorie goal to 2000 a day. The only thing I’m doing for now is tracking calories, and trying to stay around 2000. TDEE is around 2400 sedentary, but I do move around on dog walks and house chores.

However, I find myself extremely hungry to a point where I have eaten over 2000 calories most days, with the highest day being 3000 calories. Even this very small restriction makes the process feel very hard, despite it not even lasting a week. Even if I eat protein-rich meals (a good portion of pad see ew, about 650 calories) I’m still hungry after the meal and find myself wanting to snack. I try to fill myself up with fruits and veggies, but it seems to have little effect. I still try to prevail, however, and stick to my calorie goal. I hope this will stabilise at some point, so I can slowly continue the process, one step at a time. This small step already seems like too much for me.

Has anyone felt similar and want to share their stories on how to stand your guard through it?

Please help!!

Hey all!
So I’m on a weight loss journey at the moment with a heart problem!
I’ve been on this journey for about 5 months now and I’ve lost 22 lbs so far.
I’m on a diet and also in calorie deficit 1200 calories a day and I lose 1 1/2-2lbs a week weigh in every Sunday, I am 5”00 even and 164 lbs now. I’ve come to a point where I’m just not losing anything at all, the past two weeks I’ve been the same weight and I can’t figure out why. I log my meals and snacks, I will say I don’t log my water intake but I usually drink at least one 32 oz hydro flask a day. But I can’t lie, I do have one cheat meal a week. But even then I still try not to go over my calories. Ok back to me tracking my calories, I track those also my carb intake, fat intake and also protein intake, I only go over like once maybe twice a week on fat by only a couple “points” so with carbs, I’m allowed 152g which I never usually hit because I aim for low carb meals and snacks. Fat is 40g and protein is 61g which I usually hit around 50g for protein.
But what am I doing wrong? I can’t work out because I’m not supposed to raise my heart rate up because it gets dangerously high but I can walk which technically is working out. I walk for 30 minutes on good days. (I weigh everything btw, in grams or oz on a kitchen scale) Please help 🥲

My work banned walking pad so I got under desk mini bike - month results.

A while ago I wanted walking pad for my standing desk at work but work said no on a safety grounds. I was allowed a mini under desk bike. I think it will be useful to share here.

First of all it's one of those tine ones you just have pedals and that is it no sit or anything. It's definitely not ideal and if it wasn't for a fact my desk can go up and down it would be very uncomfortable but with hight adjustable desk I raise it about 10cm higher than my normal position and it's okay. I can't set it to high resistance because then I'm pushing my office chair out so I'm at light to medium settings.

My heart rate gets to about 100 bpm so slightly less tank brisk walk and my Garmin thinks I burn about 200 kcal in an hour. So far I would agree with it. My weight loss matches approximately extra 400 to 500 kcal burn a day and I manage to get between 2 to 2.5h of pedaling. Most of the time I forget I'm doing it. It is very quiet unless someone ducks under my desk they can't tell either. I'm not feeling tired if anything after a month my energy levels are up. It's such a light exercise that I haven't noticed any extra sweating.

Over all I would recommend it if you can't get anything else. For my use case it works great. I have client facing role when not at a desk so can't go full palaton at my desk but extra 500 kcal is nothing to spat at either for £30 investment from amazon. Big advantage is that because you don't wobble like you would normally do on walking pad typing and mouse accuracy aren't really affected. I did a speed test and my regular typing speed is 52-55 and when cycling it drops to about 48 to 52 wpm so hardly noticeable.

I do walk as normal and do my normal gym routine this is addition not replacement.

Hope that helps I lost extra 1.5kg over regular weight loss.

Mom offered me weight loss drugs and I feel completely discouraged/defeated

I'm 5' 5" 194.

I very recently started working out again and adjusting my diet. I was feeling really excited nd motived and cautiously optimistic. I was determined to stay dedicated no mattet what.

Then we were talking about how I'm trying to do this and she offered me weight loss drugs.

I was so upset. How did I let myself get to the point where people need to suggest that? Am I really that bad? Do I really look that disgusting?

I get it that these drugs are very beneficial and help people that are struggling and she even lost a bunch of weight that way and I'm so happy for her, but it hurt so much to hear.

Just venting. Hoping for some words of encouragement. I hope I didnt offend anyone.

edit:

honestly the conversation was so validating about how big I've gotten that I just want to go to bed and cry. i dont feel like trying

Body still looks the same after losing 25 pounds, how do you actually change?

So F20 here! I started my weight loss journey in July at 175 pounds and I’m now at 150!! I feel so much better, and honestly people treat me better. However I noticed despite losing weight my body still looks fat and is the same compositionally. I’m a 5’5 woman, so technically I’m almost at a normal BMI, but I still look overweight imo. My goal is 130-140 pounds so that’s still in progress, however I know now after losing 25 pounds that my body will look pretty much the same. I carry lots of weight specifically around my stomach and face which really sucks. My face 100 percent looks better, but my body shape is still horrible. If anyone has any tips on how to actually start exercising and changing this that would be awesome. It’s sooooooo confusing to me and frustrating. I get so lost on what you are supposed to do in the gym that actually works. I feel like there are so many different plans I don’t know what to do. I used to run in high school and my family are hikers, so cardio I understand. However weight training is so confusing and all it does is stress me out to the point where I don’t even try. If anyone has any advice at all that would be much appreciated!!
