Buying a walking pad was the best investment I made in my journey

Hi all, first post here.

The best money I've spent all year was on a walking pad. I bought a cheap one several months ago and it's been such an easy way to get my steps in as someone who doesn't like just going out and walking nowhere. I set it up next to a shelf and put one of those bendy arm clamps on the shelf to hold up my phone, tablet or switch. It's became my favorite way to unwind.

Want to watch netflix? Do it while walking. Listen to a podcast? Do it while walking. Doom scroll? Walking. Gaming session? Walking. Don't want to get dressed? Walk in pyjamas. Heck, walk in underwear if you want. Feeling low/ill/drained to do strength training? A couple of hours of netflix & walk is better than nothing. An hour or two can easily slip by without feeling like I've made any efford while doing the same things I usually do to unwind, and it feels more enjoyable to spend time on it because it's doing something beneficial while doing fun things.

10/10 do reccomend. Not even necessarily for weight loss but just to improve your health if you have a sedentary job and hobbies. Great little investment. Just keep something over it if you have cats, the texture of the belt makes for an irresistible scratching post 🙄

A quick update

Hello everyone. I haven’t hit wonderland yet and that’s okay. Still dealing with hip and knee issues that I suspect is arthritis related. Avascular Necrosis was ruled out upon getting the MRI results. I’ve dialed down my cardio as I’m trying to build muscle and reduce hip and knee pain. I went for a DEXA scan today. I also reviewed my Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). It was better than I thought and I will be adjusting my calories (higher) accordingly.

I’m not as active in posting here as I used to be. I’m currently filling out applications for a second graduate degree focusing on mental health and addiction counseling. Hard to think I want to go back to school at 58 and have the belief employers will even want to hire the old guy.

I see posts here complaining about weight not coming off fast enough, or loose skin, or walking doesn’t work for weight loss. Sure parts of my body are starting to resemble a Sharpie however,I healthier, happier, and more alive than when I weighed over 430 lbs. The secret to weight loss is CICO, patience, and time. You need all three to be successful.

Recently someone asked me my secret in dropping over 200 lbs but didn’t the idea there isn’t a quick fix. The best I can tell anyone is to start sooner and don’t get discouraged. It’s 6 or 7 weeks that I’ve been in sight of Onderland. I’ll get there, just not today.

I’m so confused on what I may be doing wrong

I’m 24M, 6’3 and I recently went from 295 lbs to 270 lbs in about 2.5 months. I’ve been stuck around 270 for the past 3–4 weeks so I’m trying to figure out what’s going on.

Since starting weight loss my bmi has gone down by about 2.5% and since being stuck at 270 my BMI has gone down another 1%, based on my weight, height and age, one calculator gives me a BMI of around 33%, when I add my waist measurement it says 46%, and when I add my neck measurement it says 24%. I’m not sure if those percentages are supposed to be body-fat estimates or something else or even how accurate that is. I am trying to join the US coast guard and their bmi standards go off of height, weight, age, waist and neck.

I’m eating around 2,000 calories a day and tracking my food pretty consistently. I usually get 150–200 grams of protein, around 150 grams of carbs and 45–60 grams of fat.

At the gym, I do strength training followed by cardio. I take 2–3 rest days a week and try to get 10k steps a day, although that can be difficult with my work schedule. I also find walking around my neighborhood for a couple of miles incredibly boring.

I have noticed thought that my waist is getting smaller, I feel stronger at the gym and feel as though I have more endurance and generally just have more energy throughout every day.

My questions are:
Is a 3–4 week plateau normal after losing 25 lbs?

Should I keep eating 2,000 calories and give it more time, or should I change something?

How reliable are body composition scales and waist/neck measurements when the scale isn’t moving?

Should I incorporate any other type of daily exercise?

I was also thinking about trying to transition to eating every 2 hours throughout the day but sticking to 2k calories as recommended by a friend

Does it matter ?

I’ve shifted my life around 2 months ago ( calorie deficit, 10k steps ) pushing for a long-term goal next year , and just to clarify I’m a male / 185lb ( started 30% body fat @ 201 lb )

Does it matter if I get 10k steps in from walking , or should I switch to jogging ? I’ve literally been pushing myself to achieve at least 8k or more steps a day , so I’ve walked daily after work to get that done. Sometimes I feel like I could make time go by faster if I just jogged , but everything I read recommends walking. I’m not just after weight loss , but more fat loss than anything. My average whole food daily consumption is around 140g protein, so I believe I’m getting enough protein to preserve muscle.

I just don’t want to get dropping weight , and end up “ skinny fat “ , I do lift weights twice a week. What I was referring to is that I’ve read that walking is low impact , low impact burns more fat , etc.

Any input would be nice.

Food addiction/ foodie

I’m only two weeks into being serious about weight loss this time. Ive lost 60 pounds before so I know what works for me. but that time I put myself on a repetitive diet of eggs chicken beans. My job would bring in pizza and I’d have a single slice.

I was counting the number of food events to the end of the year and it seemed evenly spread out. just enough to reward myself every other week. This weekend was rough. First I’m plateauing for a week. Second I keep getting offered parties. i knew we had a work event on Thursday. Then Sat I was invited to a nbhd party mostly burgers. Then Sun my aunt invited my family over for a large event. Then my sister came over and brought a large apple pie and a box of croissants. then I went to work and two coworkers brought in homemade cookies.

i froze the pie and croissants and ate 1/4 of a cookie. I am dreading all the parties because I overeat whenever there is free food. But, I rarely eat out so I’m always excited by the idea that someone else planned, shopped, cooked, and cleaned. Even a burger can cost $20 if I ate out, and if I include labor is not much cheaper at home.

im trying to talk myself into not going or not eating, but the cheapskate in me wants to eat. The rational part of my head says my health is more expensive than some crappy party food. I’m a BMI of 32 and I really need to turn that around. I’m also a decent cook and I can make healthier options than a burger.

Has anyome fixed the foodie cheap part of their brain?

I definitely overate over the weekend, didn't log my calories. I'm feeling a lot of anxiety and fear about this weeks weigh in.

I had a very busy and stressful weekend. I felt overwhelmed and tired of having to be diligent about what I was eating on top of the other million things I had to keep track of. So I just kinda relaxed this weekend. Let myself eat what I wanted and committed to getting back to tracking on Monday. I think I needed a little mental break after about a month and a half of thinking about my diet every day. I didn't go crazy and eat everything in sight. I just didn't think about it.

But now, while I don't feel guilty about what I ate I am dreading this week's weigh-in. I'm on a very long weight loss journey and I know that I will not lose weight every single week. And there will almost certainly be weeks I gain a bit. This is a year and a half long marathon, not a sprint.

But now that I feel like that's going to happen this week I feel a sense of panic. I'm actually afraid of perhaps gaining...a pound. I'm so tempted to do things I know aren't good for me to cut water weight in the hopes of just not having a bad weigh in on Wednesday.

Does this happen to anyone else? You allow yourself a little ease for whatever reason and then when it's time to actually do a weight check you freak out? How do you stop yourself from feeling so anxious? Because I feel like I'm going to be in a funky mood until my weekly weighing.

I’m so tired of failing at weight loss. I know what to do, so why can’t I stay consistent?

I’m writing this because I’m genuinely frustrated with myself, and I’m hoping someone here can relate or offer some advice.
I’ve been trying to lose weight for what feels like forever. I’m 5’6”, and my ultimate goal is to get to around 145 lbs. (Not number driven but a goal to move towards) I’ve made some progress, but nowhere near what I feel like I should have by now.
The frustrating part is that I KNOW what I need to do. I understand calorie deficits, protein intake, exercise, and the importance of consistency. Knowledge isn’t my problem. Actually following through is.
I work a demanding job, spend a lot of time sitting, and by the time I’m done working, I’m mentally exhausted. Meal prepping feels like another responsibility on an already overwhelming list. I can do really well for a few days, sometimes even weeks, and then somehow find myself slipping back into old habits.
Nighttime eating is especially difficult for me. I can have a pretty decent day with food, but when the evening comes, my discipline seems to disappear.
What’s really bothering me is the mental aspect of all of this. I keep thinking about how much progress I could have made if I had just stayed consistent. Months go by, and I find myself setting the same goals, making the same promises to myself, and feeling disappointed when I don’t follow through.
I don’t want to spend another year telling myself that THIS is finally going to be the year I lose the weight.
I also don’t want my entire life to revolve around food, calories, and my body. I want to feel healthy, confident, comfortable in my clothes, and proud of myself for actually following through on something that matters to me.
I know weight loss isn’t supposed to be easy, but I feel like I’m making it so much harder than it needs to be.
For those of you who struggled with consistency for years before finally losing the weight: What actually changed?
Was it a mindset shift? A specific routine? Meal delivery? Finding a way to stop relying on motivation?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who work demanding jobs and don’t have the time or energy to cook every day.
I don’t need another crash diet or a motivational speech. I need to figure out how to make this sustainable, because I’m exhausted from constantly starting over.

I genuinely thought I left a weight plateau.

So for context ive been losing weight since february. It began after getting diagnosed with celiac disease and so i went gluten free. My starting weight was 325lbs. And i managed to get my weight down to 270lbs. Before reaching this point i was regularly losing atleast 2 pounds per week. After hitting 270 my weight has not went down since. I woke up one morning and weighed myself and the scale read 269lbs. I was shocked and proud that i finally left the 270s even if it was just a single pound. For the next few weeks it felt like my normal weight loss finally had resumed and i was finally looking forward to someday leaving the class 1 obese category. Well today I noticed My scale was not updating at all and it continually read 265lbs. The number behind the decimal didnt even change at all. Thats when i decided to shift it slightly. All of a sudden the weight it displayed jumped down by 2 lbs. I then decided to place my scale on the concrete floor of my garage, which i have not done before because i thought the floor in my room was balanced but apparently not. So after placing it on flat concrete and standing on it I found out that i actually weighed 271lbs. That entire 4 weeks of feeling optimistic turned out to be meaningless all because my scale was not level. I never lost a single pound beyond 270. Ive exercised, eaten healthier, and done everything im currently able to handle. (Im battling severe depression and a general lack of drive). After being shown that my efforts meant literally nothing I learned to stop being optimistic for my health because it will never improve. I was so foolish to think I was actually going to see something like 190lbs on the scale someday. I even went to my doctors and my weight read 270 there and i was confused because at home mine consistently read a weight range of 261-264 lbs. I was so stupid to think I actually left the plateau. I am completely hopeless now.

Parents being so anti dieting they over feed you

Hello I’m 17F, 5’3, and my whole life have been overweight. My mom is EXTREMELY anti dieting and anti losing weight because she thinks all weight loss is “hating your body” or “unhealthy for you”. Shes been this way since before I was born according to my family and in return has overfed me my entire life. Last year I had lost 5lbs according to the scale at the doctor’s office (no dieting just normal fluctuation) and she asked me IN FRONT OF THE DOCTOR if I was STARVING MYSELF!?!? I feel physically and mentally like shit because I’m overeating and I can’t do half the activities my friends can because of my weight. I’m so sick and tired of this. Any tips or advice on what to do??

Took a photo for the first time after rapid 60lb weight gain (june-now mostly gained in a single month.)

I am out doing uber eats and went to use the bathroom.

I looked the mirror after washing my hands and saw myself and I thought "oh! Im not as big as i thought!" So i took a photo entirely of my back and of my side.

Going to be completely honest- I genuinely feel like I want to go back home and never come back out until I lose the weight again. I say again bc I lost 230 pounds over 3 yrs. I got several weight loss surgeries including a large penniculectomy, fleur de list, tummy tuck, and body contouring.

Not only am I ashamed of gaining the weight, I am insecure all over again when just 4 mos ago my body was perfect for the first time in my life. The added layer of disappointment comes from the fact that after losing it I may have ruined my tummy tuck.

My stomach is still flat but again... its 60 pounds were talking abt. I am also a very tall woman being 6'1 so that does work in my favor. Also being that most weight went below my waist.

I hate this.... I hate food addiction. I hate struggling with my weight. Im just so numb that I cant even be depressed bc im so numb.

I was supposed to visit a friend in another state and have a cute weekend of bar hopping but i'm staying home.

Is Losing 18–20 Pounds in Three Months Possible?

I'm trying to lose around 18–20 pounds in the next three months and would appreciate advice from people who have experience with weight loss.

I'm currently 165 pounds, and my goal is to reach around 145–147 pounds. My plan is to run 3.1 miles every day, fast twice a week, and eat two meals a day.

I'm wondering if running 3.1 miles daily, combined with my current eating habits, would be enough to reach my goal within three months. Or would I need to increase my running distance or make other changes to my diet?

For those who have lost a similar amount of weight, how long did it take you, and what worked best? I'd also appreciate any advice on avoiding muscle loss and staying consistent throughout the process.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Would increasing protein and decreasing carbs help fat loss?

More specifically, I am wondering if I up my protein to about 120g and keep my carb cap about 20g will aid in fat loss specifically during weight loss. I know that calories in -> calories out is the ultimate, but I'm wanting to focus on what macros might help with keeping muscle and losing weight.
I have some conditions that don't really allow me to do heavy weight training due to joint subluxations and whatnot (plus living in a place that doesn't have a nearby gym unless I drive 2 hours away every single day which is just impossible with my schedule) and I do not have access to a dietitian or nutritionist who will not just tell me to eat the standard SAD diet. They don't listen to me and have zero clue what EDS even is. My neurologist has checked off for me that I need to eat a high meat-based diet, since vegetables cause pretty bad digestive upset and anything that's really carby in general will give me massive long-lasting migraines that cause weird eyesight and hearing problems. Since nixing carbs, I've not had migraines at all. Only the occasional mild headache. I do include a lot of beef/deer organs in my diet as well and try to go for the fattier meat cuts, since I read in a lot of places that in ketosis fat is the primary source of energy.

This might be a rather dumb question, but I'd like some insight from people who might know more than I do about this topic.

Starting my weight loss journey.. how much loose skin can I expect?

Current weight 105 KG

Goal weight 70 KG

Height 5'11

Age 24 Male

I am aiming to loose 35 KGs within 6 months time period

I plan on lifting dumbells at home.. cardio... calorie deficit around 500 calories... pushups crunches planks etc.. (cant go to gym due to work placement and shifts)

How much loose skin can I expect to have? It is causing me anxiety and also demotivating me to start my journey...

I do have pictures if needed I can DM.... I plan on hydrating a lot and maybe some creams can help?

Reasoning

Hello all! I am looking to lose weight but am having trouble because it seems like my goal weight is so "far away". Does anyone have any tips on how to persevere with weight loss regardless of this?

For context, I lost 30 pounds from January-May of this past year but have gained almost all of it back. When I lost the weight, though, I also lost my period.

Sometimes I catch myself trying to think back on how I lose the weight the first time, but I don't think that is helping me because I keep comparing this time to last time. Does anyone have experience with this?

Thank you all!

Weight Loss Plan UPDATED

Here’s the [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/PetiteFitness/s/oQ0rqZHbvA) to my last post.
For reference I am 26, F, 5’2” and 179 lbs. My goal is 150 lbs, but would also like to be 130 lbs.
I’ve updated my stats! I have yet to weigh myself in, but I’m feeling good about this one.
Calories: 1700kcal (down from 1900)
Protein: 100 g (down from 135g courtesy of my dietician)
Fat: 75g
Fiber: 25g
Carbs: 170g
Steps: 10k
Exercise: 30 min/day

I’m still walking every day (now at a 4-inch incline and 3.2 speed!! I was at a 3-inch incline and 3 speed).
I also do strength training on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for another 30 minutes.

I use a Apple Watch and I have the metrics as follows:
Move: 350 cal
Exercise: 40 min
Stand: 12 hr

I’ve been consistent with this setup for 13 weeks now. Do you think I should tweak any of this?

Best non-meal foods for fixing the feeling of an empty stomach?

Most foods recommended for weight loss (ex. fruits, vegetables, yogurts, etc) leave me full but with a 'watery' feeling in my stomach. Like the way that you feel less satisfied after liquid calories compared to a solid meal even if they are equivalent. Very often I'll need something more 'solid' to actually feel satiated (usually end up having toast), especially before bed so it is easier to fall asleep as I often struggle with sleeping in a deficit. Part of this is probably psychological also haha

Any recommended foods that aren't too caloric & are non inflammatory that match what I am wanting? It is really just that I need something that doesn't feel like it's turned to liquid in my stomach but isn't so calorically empty

Medically assisted weight loss.

So I know the basic rules of weightloss. CICO. You can't outrun a bad diet. And even medication and baratric surgery will only provide temporary results if you don't make changes in the long run.

For those of you who sought medical help (surgery, medication, etc) what made you decide to take that step? Did it help you make and sustain the changes that you needed to make? Or do you regret your choice to have surgery/use medication due to side effects/ineffectiveness.

I found out from the hospital that my insurance has zero requirements for weight loss surgery so I don't even have to go through a program as long as I get all the clearances the hospital requires...I could have surgery in as soon as two months.

I felt shame having a large treat and now I don't know how to feel about it

This feels like such a small and insignificant thing to talk about, but it's been a few days and it still rubs me the wrong way because I didn't think I'd react like that. So context:

I've lost like 45lbs since february. I track calories and have learned along the way the importance of portioning, listening to hunger cues, and saying "I can have this later/tomorrow." It's great, fantastic, and I'm really proud of myself for being able to regulate cravings, stress binges, and eat like a normal college kid.

I'm currently halfway through a two-week diet break (the weather lately has triggered the part of me that yearns to be a bear fattening for the winter) and I've been doing well. I didn't launch immediately into binging every day, I'm still eating whole foods, hitting my protein and fibre, and regular meals. I really did need that break, and I think I'm using it well. I don't dread the idea of going back into a calorie deficit next week, I feel ready for it.

The other day, it was my starbucks birthday and I've been really loving pumpkin spice, so I decided to grab a pumpkin spice iced frappe. I got a venti, and seeing the size of the cup suddenly made me feel hyperaware of the eyes around me. I just suddenly felt very conscious of how I looked from the outside. I'm still fat, a stranger never would've assumed that I had lost 40lbs already. Why did I care?? Why did I have to reassure myself that a stranger's thoughts and opinions don't mean anything?

It just doesn't make sense to me. This whole time, I never really excluded foods I loved. I don't believe in cheat days, just regulating portions and staying inside of my daily deficit. Before I started my weight loss journey, getting a venti frappe wouldn't have shaken me like this at all. It worries me, or maybe I'm being dramatic cuz I want to make sure that my relationship with food doesn't spiral into an ED.

I drink so much zero cal bullshit i swear it works

Coke. Tea. Sparkling water. Weird ice tea that's suprisingly tasty. Coffee (rarely). Energy drinks (even rarer). Lemonade. Flavored neon blue water. It has geniunely made my weight loss so much more bearable. Dare I say, enjoyable even.

Drinking whatever zero calorie bullshit I could get my hands on instead of eating out of boredom at that moment is a tactic that geniunely helps me keep some deadly binges at bay. I'll be walking down the street and want to stop by a restaurant or market to just get something, both to have something to do with my hand and to have something in my mouth, and you know what I get? That weird strawberry flavored pepsi that I love the taste of even though my sister looks at me in horror every single time. 2 cals per can. Bottoms up.

And I am also more hydrated than I was before. Sure, chemical explosion in my body, but let's be real. I wouldn't be any more healthier if I was eating 1500 cals over every single day instead, and I very easily could. We all could. The smallest thing which is the size of my thumb or something can cost like 300 cals out there, many of you folks are familiar I'm sure.

So yeah. Conclusion is, as I've heard some wise dude say before, drinking bullshit is better than drinking nothing. Get yourself a drink.

With 5 cals at most and triple that amount the chemicals for ideal results. Cheers.

How are the arms looking after a 50 pound weight loss?

I’m early 20s F, 5’7, losing weight at a very reasonable pace. At my highest I was 180 pounds, so I’d say it’s quite a few pounds down to my GW (ab 50 pounds) but not so crazy that I’d have to consider loose skin surgery. But one thing I’m worried about is my arms.

I know everyone is different, but generally speaking how did your arm skin (upper arms specifically) fare after a major weight loss? Did you end up with a lot of floppy skin that you had to treat with surgery? Or is there anything I can do to increase my chances of maybe not having so much loose skin once I get to 130 lbs?

Anyone giving up on losing the last 10 lbs?

My highest weight as a 5‘5“ female is was 311 pounds. My current weight is 157 pounds. I am thrilled with my weight loss overall! My original goal was to be under 200. Then to be merely overweight as opposed to obese and I am very happy I didn’t stop at those goals. My last goal was to get to 149lbs.
However, I have been stuck at 157 for the past three months. My doctor actually told me he thinks 10 pounds or so of my weight is probably excessive skin and/or increased muscle mass overall and he is happy with my labs so he was kinda like “Go for the loss if you want but it’s not definitely NOT harming your health to be at a slight overweight BMI.” Which is very reassuring but I still feel the need to keep going to hit that magical number.
I’m just not sure if I’m willing to go lower on my calories at this point to lose the final 8/9 pounds that would put me in the “normal BMI“
Can anyone relate? Anyone staying comfortable and happy in the slightly overweight category ?

Weight loss struggles rant- stalled losing weight

I’ve been losing weight naturally (just exercise and deficit) and I got myself to -10 lbs down from 147 to now 137.5 and my weight has been stalled for 10 days now. I’m still eating 1,000 cal a day, working out every other day (mostly cardio 200-300 cal a workout) I’m trying to increase it to daily.

I’ve been very resentful for the fact that I stopped losing I was hoping to lose 20 more lbs by new years and I thought I could do it now I see that maybe I just need to accept that this is my new normal. I’m also upset that 1,000 calories is my maintenance??? Like I’m not putting weight on but I’m also not losing. This is not sustainable in the long run and I’m upset that it’s that low. I see people in maintenance at 1500-1800 at the very least and I have to forever eat 1,000 just to stay this weight?? I’m also upset seeing other people’s journey on glp losing 10 lbs a week (when I lost that in 2 months) and I’m wondering why I’m doing this to myself when I could just go on it and lose the remainder 20 lbs this way. I’m starting to think there’s something wrong with my body or hormones or something since I’m not losing any weight on such a deficit.

Anyone else dealing with it?

Hello everyone! My weight loss has plateaued since July and I’d love some input as to what to do it change it.
Is it just add more exercise? Up my calories? Just more protein?

I do my best to keep track of my intake. I have started to incorporate 30-45 minutes Caroline Girvan strength workouts and 15 minute kettlebell hiit workouts.

Do I just keep going? What do I need to change?

I’ve been eating no refined sugars, no gluten, no grains, no cow dairy.

My goal weight is around 140lbs.

Need advice from people who lost and mantained weight loss

I am 43F and I am curently 250lbs, 5ft 7. I need to lose around 70 to 80lbs. Over the last 10 15 years I just added slowly, I did lose some weight ....20lbs but gained it all back and than some more. I tried keto, low carb, high protein but nothing seams to work. I have a desk job , I dont move much, and do have 2 children in sports. I stay busy most of the time with work, kids and household chores. I do cook most days. I start my day with a protein coffee and I have 2 additional meals. It could be a sandwich and a hot meal at home. I do eat fruit, cheese and chocolate as snack. If you lost weight.... how did you do it? Men tend to lose weight easier so my question is more for women. Thank you all in advance!

Healthy Weight loss timeline

20F 5’ 4”. Little backstory, about 3 years ago I lost about 60 pounds way too fast and unhealthily. Obviously gained it all back because I lost the weight way too fast (about 8-10 months). Which obviously gaining back all the weight I had lost shot my confidence down.
This year I decided I wanted to loose it again but in a healthy way. I workout six days a week, eat healthier and am just more active in my daily life. Since July, I’ve lost about 24 lbs. Is this a healthy ish amount of weight loss for a short ish period of time? Around 4 months I’ve been on my weight loss journey now.
I was never morbidly obese or anything, started at 180 and now I’m down to 156. Obviously my biggest fear is gaining the weight back a second time, so please share opinions on the comments.

How do you deal with family members making negative comments about your weight loss?

I've been losing weight, getting leaner, and building muscle, and lately I've been dealing with a lot of unsolicited comments about my body, mostly from family members.

For context, I'm 5'8" and around 140 lbs, so I'm well within a healthy weight range. I strength train regularly, focus on nutrition, and genuinely feel better than I have in years.

Before losing weight, I was experiencing a lot of physical discomfort, including ankle and foot pain, pretty rough health markers, sleep apnea, acid reflux, could barely walk without being out of breath and generally didn't feel great in my body. Since making these changes, I feel incredible. I'm stronger, more comfortable physically, and even my health markers have been improving.

But as my weight loss has become more noticeable, I've started getting comments like, "Oh gosh, you're looking skinny," "You're getting too skinny," or "Are you sure you should be losing more weight?" I'm not really losing actual weight anymore but I am leaning out.

It's not everyone, but it's been the majority of my family members, and I'm finding it increasingly frustrating.

It actually got to the point where I started questioning myself and went for a medical evaluation just to make sure everything was okay. I've been afraid of getting too lean and sickly so I wante to check in on myself. Everything came back fine, and I'm healthy. Part of me feels ridiculous for having let other people's comments make me doubt myself when I genuinely feel so good.

I understand that people are accustomed to seeing me at a certain size, and maybe seeing me look noticeably different takes some getting used to. I also recognize that some of these comments might come from genuine concern rather than bad intentions. It's just weird for me because this is all very new.

For those who have experienced something similar, especially with family, how do you handle it? Do you explain to them that you feel fine? Do you address the comments directly, set boundaries, or learn to ignore them? And how do you stop other people's perceptions of your body from making you second-guess yourself when you're genuinely feeling healthier and happier?

Accuracy of heart rate zones during cardio for fat loss

I’m 22F and am on a weight loss journey right now. I’m currently in a calorie deficit and doing cardio plus weight training 5-6 times out of the week.

For cardio, I like to do 30 minutes on the stair master at 5 speed which is tiring but not too difficult. By the end of my session, I am pretty much dripping in sweat and breathing heavy but not to the point where I cannot talk or am borderline hyperventilating. I haven’t been using my Apple Watch too often because I forget to put it on but I have been trying to be better at wearing it to improve calorie tracking. I realized today that my heart rate during these sessions are in zone 4-5 which according to the internet and social media, is bad for fat loss.

The thing is, my body does not experience the physical effects of being in zone 5 cardio (gasping for air, unable to hold a conversation, only sustaining for 3-5 minutes). I often FaceTime friends during these sessions and can hold my conversations with little difficulty. I am also mindful about mouth breathing so I know for a fact I am breathing through my nose 99% of the time.

I am wondering how accurate Apple Watch heart rate is to begin with, and how accurate the standard formula to calculate maximum heart rate is to your actual MHR? For reference, I drink an energy drink everyday before the gym, take stimulants for my adhd and also vape.

TLDR: How accurate is calculating heart rate zone during cardio for fat loss when it doesn’t factor in lifestyle choices that may be increasing your heart rate?

High-protein ranch made my life so much easier.

It's so much easier to stick to a plan when you're able to incorporate your favorite foods, even better when they taste good. I have had a bowl of this in my fridge almost every day for the last ~9 months or so - it helped me lose weight, and it helped me to maintain the weight loss. I've talked about it on this sub multiple times so I figured I'd finally share.

For anyone interested, here's the recipe:

  • 315 grams of 2% Good Culture cottage cheese

  • 60 grams greek yogurt (I use nonfat)

  • 15 grams light mayo

  • 1/2 cup milk (i use whole or skim)

  • 1 packet restaurant-style ranch mix (I do hidden valley).

I use an immersion blender to blend everything except for the ranch mix packet until it's smooth, glossy, and there's no more chunks of cottage cheese, and then blend in the seasoning until just combined. It is possible to overblend and liquify it, so be careful if you're using a traditional blender. This usually keeps in my fridge for a couple weeks, as long as you're not dipping food directly into it.

Half a cup/110 grams made with skim milk is 74 calories and 11 grams of protein.

Pro tip for MFP: weigh your final product in grams and when you add your recipe, use that weight as your number of servings (i.e. if it weighs 530 grams, there's 530 servings). When you're logging in the future you can just weigh out what you're eating and log that as the number of servings you had (i.e. if you're eating 110 grams, you'd log 110 servings). Nice way to get around the MFP restrictions on recipes.

What recipes have you created or found that have replaced your former favorites?

Compliments on weight loss

Over the past few months, I’ve noticed how often people compliment my already skinny friend on losing around 5-8 kg. She mentions it to me all the time, people keep noticing her weight loss and compliment her on it.

I’ve been losing quite a bit of weight myself (around 20 kg), yet nobody seems to notice, let alone compliment me on it.

Sometimes, I can’t help but overthink it and wonder why this happens. Why is it that when someone who is already slim loses a few kilos, people are so quick to notice and praise them, whereas when someone who is overweight loses weight, people often don’t acknowledge it or offer the same encouragement?

It seems like people are much more likely to celebrate a smaller person losing a little weight than someone who is overweight making significant progress. Why is that?

What’s one thing you’re grateful for that makes your weight loss journey easier/possible?

I try to stay grateful for the things that are helping me along my weight loss journey, especially on days/weeks when progress feels slower (or nonexistent lol). One huge thing I’m grateful for daily is having a job that's mostly remote. This allows me to get my workouts in before work, during my lunch or immediately after work most days. This morning, I was able to take an hour walk around my neighborhood before I started my day. And I’ll do a real workout during my lunch break.

I previously worked fully remote for over 5 years.
Then I ended up having to go back to a hybrid schedule, and I was spending 3 hours of my day commuting to and from the office! In addition to having to wake up 2.5 hours earlier in the morning to get ready for work, plus commute 1.5 hours to work each way. My company also went through some significant changes, resulting in a lot of people in my department getting let go. The extra work was piled onto us remaining employees. So I would get home around 7, and then have to log back on and keep working for 2-3 extra hours most days.

During that time, I completely fell off the wagon with weight loss. I used to workout in the time right before or after work, but now I was spending that time commuting. I also went from regularly getting 6-8 hours of sleep down to 4-5. I also stopped cooking as much and started eating a lot more takeout. I stopped counting calories. Everything was going downhill. I gained 15 pounds in a year of extreme stress!

I’m super grateful that I left that toxic company and was able to find another job that’s mostly remote. Now I have the time to get back on track with my weight loss/workout routine, and I definitely don’t take this extra time for granted.

What are you grateful for?

If you consider yourself "lightly active" in TDEE calculators, please tell me about your activity levels.

I (F5'6", age 26) am currently at 145 lbs, down from 180 over the course of this year. When I began my journey in January, I had long been sedentary and so calculated my deficit with that in mind - which was at the time quite modest, I was eating 1500 cals with about 1880 maintenance.

My regular habits have changed a lot over this year and while at the beginning I was regularly meeting 10k daily steps I have averaged to about 6-7k daily which I'm happy with. For the last few weeks, I've also recently incorporated strength training twice a week (~1-hour full-body sessions) which I see myself managing to stick with. I realized I should likely increase my calorie intake so bumped up to 1600 for a couple weeks and still saw weight loss. Thinking I may want to take a temporary break from fat loss (would like to eventually be back to about 135 lbs to be in the middle BMI range for my height) to focus on muscle gain because I've been seeing more hair shed than usual which I know often means underfueling, and I don't want that.

Would you consider 6-7k daily steps and twice weekly strength training "lightly active"? My job is sedentary and I currently don't do any cardio other than walking. If you calculate using this parameter please fill me in about what your activity levels are like (and if you're my height would be curious what your maintenance cals are). A TDEE calculator is suggesting my maintenance at that level would be 1945 which seems so high, but that might be because I'm just so used to 1500-1600.

Just endlessly chasing losing weight while neglecting resistance training will not get you the dream physique

Please, please, please for anyone on their weight loss journey - do not neglect your resistance training and protein, and get into the habit now rather than waiting to get smaller first. I found out the hard way myself that just dropping the calories and the weight endlessly will not end up where you want.

For reference, I used to be very sedentary, and just continually dropped the cals and upped the steps to get from 110kg to 52kg (5foot10) and still just ended up looking like a sad, emaciated, and shrunk down version of my obese self - rather than the athletic/lean look I imagined. I had no muscle on my frame, and probably lost a fair bit during the weight loss, and was terrified of upping the calories in case I gained the weight back. I am testament to the fact that you can be underweight and still have a high body fat%.

It's taken over a year of solid gym work and eating more than I was comfortable with get back up to 80kg and a decent foundation of muscle to the point where I am ready to finally go back onto another weight loss phase now.

Slipped and gained again

I had a health scare a few months ago that helped me finally take charge of my weight loss. I’m 38 F, 102 kgs, 158 cm. Have been on the heavier side ever since I hit puberty at 11 yo, but have gained the most weight (almost 40 kg) in the last 6 years after covid.

Now I have always struggled with binge eating and have certain trigger foods.
Back in June after my health scare, I began my weight loss journey again (the nth time).. and was very focused for the first time ever..

I was the heaviest at 110 kgs, lost 11 kgs and finally came down to double digits.. I was doing so well, I felt better and more energetic, strength trained and felt so strong, it showed on my body and everyone noticed and commented and I was really riding a high.. but then mid of August I got diagnosed with an autoimmune, this was followed by some family issues too and I was under immense stress for a few weeks.. Caved in and binged a few times, and then completely slipped up.. now I have been on a binging cycle, I’m sure my labs would look like shit again, i feel bloated and so defeated.. I’ve gained 4 kgs

Every night I promise myself tomorrow will be better and every morning I do the same binging..

I’m so down and exhausted

I have no support system, well on this weight loss journey

Hey yall, so for some context i’m a 21 year old male. I am 6’3” and around 260lbs.
I have been overweight my whole life to put it bluntly, around April something clicked for me and I started doing strength training again and really consistent for months at the gym. But I took a break over summer cause I was working 4 jobs and didn’t have the time or the energy. I started back up again in September and was doing ok I won’t lie but was working out at least 5-6 days a week, whether it was yoga, strength training, or swimming. This past week and half tho has been a lot and I haven’t gone to the gym. My schedule has been a mess and I wasn’t getting home till 3am a lot of days, I was traveling to Boston for concerts, I had plans with my friends and school work. I am now on fall break tho and have been taking this time for me. Tomorrow I’m gonna hit the gym as I don’t have time today. But I’m scared, I don’t really have a support in my life of someone I’m doing this with or for other than myself. I’ve always been my own support and it can be really hard sometimes. I have friends and family and people in my life who get it but I don’t really know even how to use the support I do have. I just I want to feel healthy and good and my body which is something I don’t do now if I’m being honest with myself. I don’t know maybe this whole post is me babbling but it’s just hard and I needed to get it out somewhere where people may understand me

Nothing else worked?

I'm 5'9, male, at 165lbs rn and I've been in a 1350 cal diet for a month now. Beforehand, I tried 1800 cal, and 1500 cal. All same activity level and no weight loss at all. Afterwards had a period of eating freely with my weight stalled at 173lbs.

Workout weights for 4 times a week and cardio which is a mix of jogging, incline walking, and 10k step days.

None of the precious diets worked and the only thing that I finally am seeing a result in is a 1300-1350 cal diet. It has been said a million times here that it's not enough but what else can I do really? Stuck to 1800 for a month and 1500 for a month too with no results whatsoever.

Now with this new diet I have made sure to hit 140g protein every day and supplement creatine to minimize muscle loss.

So far I have been taking measurements and they all lead to fat loss. Belly size drop, definition starting to appear, and veins are popping.

Also energy levels throughout the day and while training are great, my strength in the gym is consistently going up. I don't feel hungry at all my meals are filling.

I am seeing no negatives here at all contrary to what is said online.

With all that in mind, is what I am doing actually fine if results are showing and no side effects have been felt?

I'm gaining weight anyway

Hi, I’m throwing a message in a bottle while I wait to resume seeing a nutritionist (I’m a student, so it’s a bit complicated right now), and it’s always nice to hear experiences and advice from people who share my interests.

I’m a 26-year-old woman, 160 cm tall, and I’ve had an eating disorder for ten years now, but lately I’ve noticed that I’m gaining weight much more easily—and, more importantly, I’m not losing any anymore. I’ve been going to the gym for seven years now, and I’ve been going regularly for the past two. Last year I quit smoking, and I naturally gained 5–6 kilos; I weighed 64–65 kg in January.

Then I worked in a restaurant for two months, which made me lose 4 kilos after a month of being constantly on my feet—it was exhausting, but I was actually pretty happy to have lost weight so easily.

But then I quit that job and went on vacation to a country where burgers and fries are everywhere, lol, and honestly, I didn’t pay any attention to what I was eating. And when I got back to France in September, bam—65 kilos.

I’m desperate—I went back to the gym with a program that I stubbornly followed to the letter for a month: four times a week plus another day when I go for a run. So I’m active and I’m also flexible—in short, I’m trying to stick with this routine—but damn, I’m not making any progress with weight loss, and even when I look in the mirror, I honestly feel like I’m getting even flabbier. It’s really, really frustrating.

And I know I also need to see a therapist because as soon as there’s a day when I stay home and don’t force myself to go out or work out, well, I have binge-eating episodes. Actually, I don’t know how to break this vicious cycle either. But I was hoping to slow down the weight gain with exercise and walking, which I do most of the time, etc., but no.

I feel really ugly and not at my best, and it’s getting me down. I don’t want to go back to eating out to meet my weight-loss goal, because personally, it really messes with my head. Anyway, I want to keep doing the workouts I’m doing but stop beating myself up if I stray a little from my strict routine, and try to control this ravenous hunger I have now that I’m working out a lot each week (and I actually enjoy it).

My goal is 57–56 kilos—that was the perfect weight for me personally. It upsets me to see myself like this today; it makes me bitter and depressed—it’s awful. That’s it.

If you have any advice, messages, or comments, I’ll take anything—please :) Thank you so much!

Does anyone have any advice on weight loss with heart failure and fluid overload?

I know this is kind of a specific question, but I tried asking in the heart failure sub and got nothing. I have heart failure, and one of the probably most annoying aspects of it for weight loss is that you retain fluid. It can be anywhere from 8 to 16 pounds of fluid. With this in mind, I have no idea how to have a good mindset about weight loss, when I am in a calorie deficit for so long, only to come back to the scale showing a higher number than before. It makes it so unbelievably frustrating, and I feel like all this work is for nothing. I am also at a place where I cannot tell the difference between clothes fitting differently or anything. The scale is all I've got, but it isn't even useful right now. My doctor knows, but no update on medication yet. If anyone has any experience with this, I could use some advice on how to navigate this.

Weight Loss Update and a 5k on Sunday

37M
sw: 330lbs
cw: 254lbs
goal weight: 245lbs (gonna keep goin)

It’s been a while since I gave an update. Unfortunately I’m a serial deleter but to fill you in, I was real fat.

Weight really hasn’t stopped flying off, I know it will, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come and am going to keep going.

I haven’t had fast food since I started this back in April, and I’ve had less than 5 restaurant meals. I think that’s the key. Even the healthy protein based meals at restaurants are drowned in liquid butter alternative.

Breakfast: 1 scoop of Isopure whey isolate, mixed with a TSP of chia seeds. This keeps me satiated until about 11am, which is great for me.

Lunch: I’m in sales, i live on the road. I go straight to the grocery store and grab either a can of salmon, a can of chicken, or tuna. There ARE some brands out there that are good. GOOD, not just tolerable. Along with one of those items, I’ll get a single serving of daisy 2% cottage cheese, and either an oikos pro yogurt, or the same brands drink. They’re essentially the same macros, it just depends on my mood.

If I’m real hungry, I’ll down a bag of Quest chips. If you haven’t had these, get them immediately. I’m hooked. It’s my go-to snack along with the occasional chomp stick.

Dinner: slop bowls save lives. You can do whatever the hell you want here. I do around half a pound of either ground chicken or ground turkey, I add onions, jalapeño, spinach, egg whites, whatever I want. I eat a MASSIVE bowl and it stays around 500 calories. Some days I wrap it all up in a giant carb sense tortilla. It keeps me very full.

What’s been helpful? Chia seeds and tortillas. Fiber GODS. Eat fiber, or shit bowling balls. That’s just how it is. Water. I keep a case on the floorboard of my truck and down it all day long. La Croix. It just gives me something different. Hot sauces - read your labels, good ones exist. Rotisserie chicken!!! On lunch days when none of that stuff sounds good, I will get a full tissie (not from Walmart), sit in my truck, peel the skin back, and go CRAZY on it. It’s so good it legit feels like a cheat meal.

That’s pretty much it. I just like sharing my journey and hoping someone will see something that can help them. I’m running a 5k for the first time in ten years on Sunday. I’ve taken a couple runs, it hasn’t gone awful, but it hasn’t been great. The race is gonna suck but I know I’ll probably cry happy tears at the end. I’m wearing clothes I haven’t touched in years.

Feel free to critique me, ask questions, whatever you want. I’m here for it.

fuck it, progress pics

Weight prediction tool for planning

Weight Prediction Spreadsheet Tool

Years ago, I wanted to find out if it was worth trying to cut my calories further to lose weight more quickly. So I worked up a spreadsheet to test eating different average daily calorie amounts each week. Just fill in the information in blue and change the values in column C to match what you plan to eat each day.

Then each week, you can update your average daily calories for that week and get a more accurate look at how your weight might trend. I've also put in the 5% and 10% weight loss steps are in case you want to have little rewards at those mile markers. BMI is coded in different shades of green so it's friendlier looking.

I found that, for me, eating 1600 calories a day would only make me reach my goal about 3 months faster than 1200. And it would still take a year. Definitely not worth it.

Then, when I found the eating pattern that worked for me for 1200 to be comfortable and hunger free*, I started using it to put higher average daily intakes on the weeks with special occasions. Like putting in an average daily calorie amount of 2000 for the week of Thanksgiving, to allow for eating like 5000 on Thanksgiving. Being able to see that it didn't make that much of a difference to when I'd reach my goal was really freeing to just enjoy the holiday.

It also helps with seeing what your activity level really is. If you're losing slower or faster than the prediction, try changing the activity level and see if it gets closer. I know we love to just use sedentary (1.2xBMR) around here, but if you're getting out and walking most days, chances are you're actually slightly active (1.375xBMR) and if you're doing moderate workouts 3 or 4 times a week, you might be lightly active (1.425xBMR).

Anyway, I hope this is helpful to someone!

*This is why you'll see me comment to try having different meal timing and to walk more, you might not need will power, you might just need to get your calories in the way that satisfies you more.

Need some advice and outside opinion

Hi everyone.

19 years old student here, who needs some help with weight loss. I'm 153 cm, 75 kg. I can say I look good in my eyes (I would add my picture if I wasn't so shy :)). So I study engineering full time, 5 days a week, from 1 pm to 5 :30 pm. But I live really far from the uni so just getting there takes me two hours, and getting back home also same.(I don't have the money to move out right now, I'm just stuck in my parent's house) But I really want to lose weight like 15 kg or so. I have time I'm not rushing or being anxious about anything. I don't even get like sad when I look at my body. But my parents... Well they do want me to be healthy and strong. Which is why I'm also looking for kickboxing or karate classes for myself taking at the same with the gym. I tried going calorie deficit but it was so stressful, I ended up drinking soda 🥲. I need someone to give me some tips to manage this stress. Because I'm studying and trying to build my portfolio for my masters. It's really difficult, too much work. I think gym even will be good for stress reliving, I'm not sure about karate, or kickboxing maybe. I haven't found anything convenient for my schedule yet. Has anyone been a situation like this before? I really need some adult guidance here, I can't tell that to my mom, she just doesn't understand me in this way I guess.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance:)

Weight loss as a teen

So im looking for good advice on losing weight as a teenager, Partly for the sake of trying to be healthier especially because due to being intubated as a baby i have some breathing issues when exerting myself that im trying to improve but also because im very self conscious about myself and have been for several years. Im currently 15, 5’5 and about 170 lbs. I do have hyperthyroidism that ive been diagnosed with for about a year and a half that im on medication for. I know the basics about losing weight (ex: move more, eat more whole foods) but I really really struggle with motivation on doing so especially eating healthy as im a fairly picky eater who struggles with textures and am trying to broaden my palate but its hard for me. I also grew up in a family who did eat decent meals but not always and we almost always have “unhealthy foods” that i find hard to avoid. I do try to make meals for myself but i usually forget ti make something until im really hungry so i end up ravaging whatever i can get fast. I also am not at all a breakfast person i get nauseous if i try to eat in the first 2-3 hours after waking up and i just dont usually love most breakfast foods. I’m really hoping to lose weight to improve myself esteem but also just get healthier because I ride horses a lot and have high expectations of getting somewhere with that.

Why am I losing more weight/month when eating very irregularly without calorie counting?

I used to stick religiously to 1500kcal/day and high energy full-body dancing every day but my weight loss was very slow and I would often feel sleepy throughout the day like my body didn't want to give me energy

I felt like I couldn't live like that my entire life and wanted more energy, so I gave up on that strict calorie counting 8 months ago and started eating very randomly again, including having sugar and mayo days, and eating a lot of high calorie nuts, some days even reaching 3500 calories, but other days barely reaching 800 and only eating mayo-free tuna salad with heaps of leafy stuffs, never fasting though

I'm losing weight... and I'm full of energy, but how is this possible? I'm definitely not eating below my average calorie needs, so it's technically not a calorie deficit (per week)

I feel kind of like when I was little and could eat an entire bag of candy one day per week but gain no weight from it... is there any explanation for this?

I'm still dancing every day and I haven't added any sports or physical activities, the only change is that my calorie intake is very erratic and I started eating sugar, nuts and mayo again

Hello everyone,

I've noticed today while sitting on the floor that I was sitting directly on my tailbone. The "bone" moves with my spine when moving.

It feels big and doesn't feel like a cyst or independent growth, it genuinely feels like a bone and it's in the shape of the tailbone.
Maybe this is inflamed? There is no pain, l've been touching it a lot, so I can just feel it there, it's not uncomfortable.

I pulled a muscle in my back three weeks ago when running and I was out injured for three weeks. I've been on a weight loss journey for 4 months and the answer I'm getting is that there could be less cushion in that area? I'm down about 20lbs. I was 205 and I'm now down to 185. My first run was today and it was comfortable. During this three week period, I felt a lot of muscle loss.

I'm not having any other issues other than teeling the bone, I don't feel it when my posture is good and I did not notice this until I sat on hard floor.
Has anyone had this issue or have any idea what it could be?

Is this connected with my weight loss!m? I know you can’t say, but I’ve arranged a GP appointment in the meantime.

Thank you,

my food noise is completely gone

i have lost 70 pounds naturally over the past 7ish months. my weight loss journey over the past decade or so has been a rollercoaster; i have cycled between 250-210 for years in a constant cycle of losing and gaining mostly because of my struggles with food noise.

my abusive parents died from cancer last year and i think that it’s the reason why i have had 0 food noise. i’m happier, i live alone, i provide for myself and i am so happy with my life now. i used to be sad every single day and the only thing that brought me joy was food. i used to plan out massive amounts of food days in advance and order 5 sandwiches with 2 large fries on doordash. now, there are so many things in my life that bring me joy and i eat normal portions! i had hobbies and things that i enjoyed back when my parents were alive but now they are dead i feel like i am finally free.

my appetite has been smaller and i’m not reaching for comfort foods like i used to. i didn’t weigh myself from december 2025-april 2026,and in that time i’d lost 40 pounds without even trying because i was just a happier person. from april to now, by focusing just a little more on weight loss, i’ve lost another 30 and am finally under 200 pounds for the first time since 2019.

i know this probably isn’t the problem for everyone, but i realized that food was a very big part of my life when it didn’t need to be my main source of happiness and since then my weight loss and staying in a deficit has been easy!!! i hope it helps someone at least!!

tl;dr: find joy in your life & decenter food so that your life makes you happier than food does!

I lost 60 pounds and hit a 2 month plateau. Trying not to be too hard on myself

I began at 5 feet 8, 230 pounds in february. I went on to get down to 170 pounds in august than hit a wall due to being put on antipsychotic medications. It makes me constantly hungry and slows my metabolism. I proceeded to gain back 6 pounds in august and first half of September and took me the back end of the month and beginning of October to lose back half of that.

I know losing weight is not a straight line, but its so hard not to be frustrated with the situation since its the first set back ive had since being on this weight loss journey.

Weight loss app

I need an app to help me with weight loss. Either a game, or something that has you checking in with tasks every day. Preferably free or very low cost

I already track with lose it but fall off pretty regularly. I am looking for something that requires more input/attention. Whether that is rewards or things you have to do every day, etc.

I know the basics of weight loss but I just can't do it consistently 😭. The answer is obvious - just do it. But I feel like what I'm looking for would be really beneficial to me.

Confused at the pace of weight loss

I (32F) stepped on the scale today and was shocked to see that I had lost 15 lbs since the start of my weight loss journey 13.5 weeks ago. I started at 180, and today it read 165!!! My nutritionist put me on a 1500 cal/day goal, which I sort of followed inconsistently, but always managed to even out at the end of every week. (I travel a ton and it's really hard to be consistent sometimes.)

For so long, I was stuck around 175, and then for weeks I was oscillating between 172-175--I mean basically 6 whole weeks I just kept going up and down between these two weights. I noticed that my period would cause me to plateau, and then my exercising also seemed like it wasn't making any difference at all.

Then, suddenly, in the past two weeks, I dropped to 169 and then this morning, 165...how is that possible? I have not been starving myself. I guess I've been traveling a little less recently, and I've been able to keep consistent with exercise, but I don't exercise that much.

Does the body sometimes just hit a point where the weight starts dropping off super fast after months of relatively the same eating habits for some reason?

Should I lose the weight?

20 F 178cm and 90kg

For starters, let me preface this by saying that yes, I do have a history of disordered eating and have for most of my life. I've done treatment for many years but all the way throughout I still struggled with the idea of being the weight am. I now consider myself recovered as ,mentally, I don't experience the same level of turmoil that I used to but I still I want to lose at least 10-20kg or until I look or feel better in my body.

I want to see if losing weight will help my physical health problems as I'm dealing with several severe chronic illnesses and have high genetic cholesterol for which I'm on statins. Unfortunately, one of my chronic illnesses makes me ill the more physical activity I do so I am mostly sedentary as doing too much can make me bedbound. I used to love being able to work out or go on walks but I just can't anymore and I'm a wheelchair user which upsets me. I also have pcos/pmos which I also think is a huge barrier in losing weight for me as I've really tried everything; when I was able to be more active managed to lose.

I'm struggling with eating in general. I know it's a comfort thing and I stim (I'm autistic) by eating different textures. I'd say, depending on the day and how I feel, I eat anywhere from 1000 to 2700 calories a day but I don't really count. I tend to only eat one big meal in the evening consisting of whatever is easily accessible to me when my symptoms aren't too heavy, usually beige foods or salmon with roasted veg I've pre-portioned and frozen. I also snack though I'm trying to reduce it buy not buying them anyway but I end up spiralling and buying them anyway. Then it becomes a case of I have to eat them all now so I don't eat it later. My usual snacks are popcorn, salt and vinegar crisps and crackers. I'm trying to have them in moderation by allowing myself a small snack plate in the evening so I'm not completely excluding them from my diet.

I sometimes go long periods of fasting and curb my appetite by drinking coffee and tea and I actually enjoy fasting when my mind isn't so honed in on food. I want to do more fasting but it really flares up my chronic illness symptoms so I have to stop before I feel more ill.

I feel like I don't know how to properly engage with weight loss healthily as so much of my behaviour is determined by my previous eating disorder behaviours. I know what methods work really well but they almost killed me and I don't want to go through that again but weight loss in general feels like a slippery slope back to relapse.

I want to lose weight for my sense of self. I want to be okay with what I see in the mirror. I've been overweight for most of my life and I've been 90kg for years at this point. I just want to get down to 70, maybe even 60 and see how I feel.

I'm starting to feel like I shouldn't even pursue weight loss due to how my brain is.

Be honest with me but be nice, any comments are welcome. What do you think I should or could do to help myself?

Redditors who felt their weight loss was much slower than it should have been, what did you eventually discover you were doing wrong that solved the problem?

So we’ve all been there. Weight loss is going much slower than you want, but more importantly, much slower than it should be.

“Stick with it and keep going” is probably the most common advice, but for those of you who eventually figured out what was actually wrong, what was it and how did you fix it?

For example, maybe you think that Starbucks coffee is only 100 calories, but then you realize you were looking at the wrong nutrition line on the website and it’s actually 600 calories. Suddenly, you understand why your weight hasn’t moved for the past month.

So what was it for you? A misunderstanding? Incorrect labeling? A medical condition? A scale with a dying battery?

Struggling already in week 1

Hey!

As the title says, I just started a weight loss journey almost one week ago. I really have no motivation to do this, as I know it’s going to be very hard. I lost about 25 kg some years ago, but life happened and I gained it back plus some more. I’m starting to get health complications as a result of my weight, so my doctor strongly encourages me to lose weight. Still, I struggle a lot with motivation. Food has always been my zoloft, my comfort, and taking that comfort away is very hard for me.

I randomly decided to start focusing on it last Wednesday. No big life change, no eureka-moment. Just decided to start. I redownloaded cronometer and set the calorie goal to 2000 a day. The only thing I’m doing for now is tracking calories, and trying to stay around 2000. TDEE is around 2400 sedentary, but I do move around on dog walks and house chores.

However, I find myself extremely hungry to a point where I have eaten over 2000 calories most days, with the highest day being 3000 calories. Even this very small restriction makes the process feel very hard, despite it not even lasting a week. Even if I eat protein-rich meals (a good portion of pad see ew, about 650 calories) I’m still hungry after the meal and find myself wanting to snack. I try to fill myself up with fruits and veggies, but it seems to have little effect. I still try to prevail, however, and stick to my calorie goal. I hope this will stabilise at some point, so I can slowly continue the process, one step at a time. This small step already seems like too much for me.

Has anyone felt similar and want to share their stories on how to stand your guard through it?

Please help!!

Hey all!
So I’m on a weight loss journey at the moment with a heart problem!
I’ve been on this journey for about 5 months now and I’ve lost 22 lbs so far.
I’m on a diet and also in calorie deficit 1200 calories a day and I lose 1 1/2-2lbs a week weigh in every Sunday, I am 5”00 even and 164 lbs now. I’ve come to a point where I’m just not losing anything at all, the past two weeks I’ve been the same weight and I can’t figure out why. I log my meals and snacks, I will say I don’t log my water intake but I usually drink at least one 32 oz hydro flask a day. But I can’t lie, I do have one cheat meal a week. But even then I still try not to go over my calories. Ok back to me tracking my calories, I track those also my carb intake, fat intake and also protein intake, I only go over like once maybe twice a week on fat by only a couple “points” so with carbs, I’m allowed 152g which I never usually hit because I aim for low carb meals and snacks. Fat is 40g and protein is 61g which I usually hit around 50g for protein.
But what am I doing wrong? I can’t work out because I’m not supposed to raise my heart rate up because it gets dangerously high but I can walk which technically is working out. I walk for 30 minutes on good days. (I weigh everything btw, in grams or oz on a kitchen scale) Please help 🥲

My work banned walking pad so I got under desk mini bike - month results.

A while ago I wanted walking pad for my standing desk at work but work said no on a safety grounds. I was allowed a mini under desk bike. I think it will be useful to share here.

First of all it's one of those tine ones you just have pedals and that is it no sit or anything. It's definitely not ideal and if it wasn't for a fact my desk can go up and down it would be very uncomfortable but with hight adjustable desk I raise it about 10cm higher than my normal position and it's okay. I can't set it to high resistance because then I'm pushing my office chair out so I'm at light to medium settings.

My heart rate gets to about 100 bpm so slightly less tank brisk walk and my Garmin thinks I burn about 200 kcal in an hour. So far I would agree with it. My weight loss matches approximately extra 400 to 500 kcal burn a day and I manage to get between 2 to 2.5h of pedaling. Most of the time I forget I'm doing it. It is very quiet unless someone ducks under my desk they can't tell either. I'm not feeling tired if anything after a month my energy levels are up. It's such a light exercise that I haven't noticed any extra sweating.

Over all I would recommend it if you can't get anything else. For my use case it works great. I have client facing role when not at a desk so can't go full palaton at my desk but extra 500 kcal is nothing to spat at either for £30 investment from amazon. Big advantage is that because you don't wobble like you would normally do on walking pad typing and mouse accuracy aren't really affected. I did a speed test and my regular typing speed is 52-55 and when cycling it drops to about 48 to 52 wpm so hardly noticeable.

I do walk as normal and do my normal gym routine this is addition not replacement.

Hope that helps I lost extra 1.5kg over regular weight loss.

Mom offered me weight loss drugs and I feel completely discouraged/defeated

I'm 5' 5" 194.

I very recently started working out again and adjusting my diet. I was feeling really excited nd motived and cautiously optimistic. I was determined to stay dedicated no mattet what.

Then we were talking about how I'm trying to do this and she offered me weight loss drugs.

I was so upset. How did I let myself get to the point where people need to suggest that? Am I really that bad? Do I really look that disgusting?

I get it that these drugs are very beneficial and help people that are struggling and she even lost a bunch of weight that way and I'm so happy for her, but it hurt so much to hear.

Just venting. Hoping for some words of encouragement. I hope I didnt offend anyone.

edit:

honestly the conversation was so validating about how big I've gotten that I just want to go to bed and cry. i dont feel like trying

Body still looks the same after losing 25 pounds, how do you actually change?

So F20 here! I started my weight loss journey in July at 175 pounds and I’m now at 150!! I feel so much better, and honestly people treat me better. However I noticed despite losing weight my body still looks fat and is the same compositionally. I’m a 5’5 woman, so technically I’m almost at a normal BMI, but I still look overweight imo. My goal is 130-140 pounds so that’s still in progress, however I know now after losing 25 pounds that my body will look pretty much the same. I carry lots of weight specifically around my stomach and face which really sucks. My face 100 percent looks better, but my body shape is still horrible. If anyone has any tips on how to actually start exercising and changing this that would be awesome. It’s sooooooo confusing to me and frustrating. I get so lost on what you are supposed to do in the gym that actually works. I feel like there are so many different plans I don’t know what to do. I used to run in high school and my family are hikers, so cardio I understand. However weight training is so confusing and all it does is stress me out to the point where I don’t even try. If anyone has any advice at all that would be much appreciated!!

I Haven't Been able to Maintain Weight Loss for Six Years

EDIT: LMAO why have i been downvoted what kind of community is this

EDIT 2: forgot to mention i have pcos which i only discovered age 25. i have very irregular cycles and its only when im under 140lbs that my cycles are more regular and my periods are much less painful. this isn't just vanity weight loss.

27F / 5'6 / SW: 160lbs / CW: 134lbs / GW: 130lbs

The timeline of my weight goes something like this:

All throughout university I was pretty slim, around 130-135 as I was sporty and had a hospitality job where I was on my feet non stop and was too busy/broke to overeat regularly.

2021 I get my first big girl job where I was sedentary for 40 hours a week and didn't make time for the gym. This was when I started stress eating. Went up to around 150lbs.

I got down to 135-140lbs summer of 2022

Winter of 2022 I was binge eating due to work stress again and got back up to 155lbs.

First half of 2023, smashing gym, tracking everything, tbh got too fixated and it wasn't entirely healthy, but within a couple months I'd got down to around 135lbs which I'd manage to hold off until that winter where, ding ding, I began stress eating again and by the end of 2023 I was back to 155lbs.

2024 I was around 140-145. Overall a fairly smooth ride until I got into a relationship with someone who overate a lot which would then result in-

2025: my heaviest yet, I got up to 160lbs and was really unhappy in how I looked and felt. most of my clothes didnt fit or look good, i went on a hike on my 26th birthday and had to stop several times up a hill which now I'd be able to march up with no issues.

2026: i left the ex and moved out of our flat and ran the london marathon. After the marathon I decided to really focus on weight loss as you can't really be in a calorie deficit while marathon training. Since April, I've lost over 20 pounds through keeping a high step count, limiting alcohol, and eating mainly whole foods. I keep a food diary in my notes app, but i dont count calories. Weirdly, I exercise WAY less. I still run, go to the gym and climb, but i do those for enjoyment rather than weight loss, i just try to make sure my steps are at least 12k.

I've been staying around 135lbs since July, I want to get down to 130.

As you can see by the timeline, I have spent my entire twenties in a relentless yoyo cycle of weight loss and regain. I am currently pretty happy with how I look and feel. Running feels great, my clothes fit me again, my confidence has improved tenfold.

I don't want to lose this and have to start from scratch again. I want to lose these last few pounds slowly and sustainably as I know it will be more difficult than the first twenty pounds I lost.

If anyone has been able to overcome this cycle or just has any insight, please let me know!
