I Haven't Been able to Maintain Weight Loss for Six Years

EDIT: LMAO why have i been downvoted what kind of community is this

EDIT 2: forgot to mention i have pcos which i only discovered age 25. i have very irregular cycles and its only when im under 140lbs that my cycles are more regular and my periods are much less painful. this isn't just vanity weight loss.

27F / 5'6 / SW: 160lbs / CW: 134lbs / GW: 130lbs

The timeline of my weight goes something like this:

All throughout university I was pretty slim, around 130-135 as I was sporty and had a hospitality job where I was on my feet non stop and was too busy/broke to overeat regularly.

2021 I get my first big girl job where I was sedentary for 40 hours a week and didn't make time for the gym. This was when I started stress eating. Went up to around 150lbs.

I got down to 135-140lbs summer of 2022

Winter of 2022 I was binge eating due to work stress again and got back up to 155lbs.

First half of 2023, smashing gym, tracking everything, tbh got too fixated and it wasn't entirely healthy, but within a couple months I'd got down to around 135lbs which I'd manage to hold off until that winter where, ding ding, I began stress eating again and by the end of 2023 I was back to 155lbs.

2024 I was around 140-145. Overall a fairly smooth ride until I got into a relationship with someone who overate a lot which would then result in-

2025: my heaviest yet, I got up to 160lbs and was really unhappy in how I looked and felt. most of my clothes didnt fit or look good, i went on a hike on my 26th birthday and had to stop several times up a hill which now I'd be able to march up with no issues.

2026: i left the ex and moved out of our flat and ran the london marathon. After the marathon I decided to really focus on weight loss as you can't really be in a calorie deficit while marathon training. Since April, I've lost over 20 pounds through keeping a high step count, limiting alcohol, and eating mainly whole foods. I keep a food diary in my notes app, but i dont count calories. Weirdly, I exercise WAY less. I still run, go to the gym and climb, but i do those for enjoyment rather than weight loss, i just try to make sure my steps are at least 12k.

I've been staying around 135lbs since July, I want to get down to 130.

As you can see by the timeline, I have spent my entire twenties in a relentless yoyo cycle of weight loss and regain. I am currently pretty happy with how I look and feel. Running feels great, my clothes fit me again, my confidence has improved tenfold.

I don't want to lose this and have to start from scratch again. I want to lose these last few pounds slowly and sustainably as I know it will be more difficult than the first twenty pounds I lost.

If anyone has been able to overcome this cycle or just has any insight, please let me know!

What workout split worked best for you while losing weight?

I know fat loss primarily comes down to being in a calorie deficit, and you can’t out-train a bad diet. I’m more curious about which workout split worked best for you alongside your diet.

Have you tried full body, PPL, upper/lower, or other splits? Which gave you the best results for maintaining muscle, building strength, and improving your physique while losing weight? What didn’t work for you, and what made you eventually settle on your current routine?

I’d love to hear your actual trial-and-error experiences, especially if you’ve tried several splits during your weight loss journey!

Some easy protein/fiber rich meals a college kid could make

Hey yall, I keep bouncing off weight loss (in and out of cycle) where I’ll do really well for a bit and than relapse into eating a lot.

I have a full kitchen, and a decent amount of cookware. But I’m struggling to meal prep good meals and portion my eating. I’m also a slightly picky eater (but better than before, I’ll try most things at least once)

Anyone have some good recipes or ideas? I’ve tried calorie tracking but it always ends up being too much of a hassle for me

I guess on top of those recipes and good Strats people gave to actually remain consistent would be good. I find I just don’t have much direct willpower. If I have snacks in the house I can’t stop myself from eating them, so I don’t keep them in the house. That sort of thing

Is what I am doing okay? Will it negatively affect my weight loss progress?

Instead of eating fast food, I am substituting it for frozen foods like for instance instead of getting pizza hut I'm getting lean cuisine pizza or instead of a burger from McDonald's I'm getting the White Castle frozen burger. Or instead of ordering out spaghetti from Olive Garden, I'm eating lean cuisine spaghetti and meatballs.

I know frozen dinners aren't the best in terms of nutrition, but I feel it's a step up from getting fast food. I eat frozen meals nearly everyday because I don't really have much time to cook except for weekends where I do make my meals like salads or sweet potatoes.

But I'm finding this so easy to track my calories by eating frozen dinners because the calories are already there and it's no measuring needed.

Eventually I am going to cook more, but for now, I like this set up of eating my lean cuisines and other frozen meals.

But do you think there's something wrong with it? Will it affect my weight loss progress?

why am i not losing fat & how do i lose it?

for reference, i (24f) am 5'2 and 144 lbs. i mentioned fat in the title because i do gain muscle easily and have a solid amount of muscle on my legs and some on my arms & shoulders. since about august 22-24 i have been walking around 5k steps a day and in a calorie deficit (it ranges from 700-1200 calories a day). i also work out by lifting weights at least once every other week.

i've gained more muscle from the walking since it's slight incline walking on my way to class and also from lifting weights, but i feel like i haven't lost fat on my stomach and sides. how do i fix this? i want to look better, and i also want to lose fat since i have a condition that makes my cholesterol high easily & my doctor said exercise / weight loss will help.

i'm a full time college student in an intense program so i really only have like 3 hours max a day on week days (at least 5-6 on weekends) so i'd really appreciate something i can do that doesn't take up too many hours in my day so it doesn't affect my studies/grades.

thank you so much to anyone who replies or reads this! i appreciate it!

Doctor’s office weight less than home weight

Just like the title says. My weight came in at about 155 today at the doctors office which was quite shocking to me because I weigh in at the 160s constantly. I started my weight loss journey in March and since then I have been consistently in the 160-164 range. It’s not a huge range but for months I have not been able to get the scale to budge. My doctor was proud of me bc this is the lowest I weighed in the 2 yrs I have seen him. I can’t help but think his scale is inaccurate though and when I try to look it up, most people have the opposite problem of weighing more at the office.

For background I am a woman, 5 foot, have hypothyroidism (currently on meds) and pcos (just got prescribed metformin today). Those 5 lbs are a huge deal to me because weight loss with all 3 of the worst conditions for weight loss has been extremely disheartening. I have my off days but overall have been tracking somewhat consistently and exercising consistently at least twice a week. I also have been seeing my doctor every few months not just the annual since I am trying to keep my thyroid levels ok. Last time (3 months ago) i weighed in at 162 which at the time was consistent with my home scale. I also did come home and used 3 different scales and they all showed 162-163 so I guess i am still in the range…but it would have been nice to believe my doctor

How do I know if my goal is realistic?

I (21F, 5'3", SW 172, CW 158) have a goal of getting to a certain goal weight by new years because I'm going on a trip where I have to do a lot of athletic things and I don't want to be medically overweight at that point.

I always thought my goal weight should be 135 because I have pretty muscular legs and it allows me to be just under the 140 pound cutoff to not be overweight by BMI for my height but I'm not sure if that is unrealistic to achieve in 3 months.

Obviously this is a long game and if it's easier to slow down the weight loss and do things more reasonably then I will, but after that how do you know when to switch to maintenance? I got down to 130 during my freshman year of college and it sort of caused health problems that made me nervous so I gained almost all the weight back.
