Have you found that weight loss has had any impact on your mental health?

I have some anxiety issues and have struggled with depression. While I’m at a place where I don’t need medical intervention to help me manage my symptoms anymore, I was just wondering whether anyone noticed things getting better with weight loss?

Of course I don’t think having weight to lose is a cause of any particular condition and that it’s more complex than that.

I think that my weight has at the very least exacerbated my conditions and would just like to know whether anyone else experienced this, just because it’s really hard to find resources about it online that aren’t ‘lose weight and feel great!’

NSV x2! Had a few great moments this week and had to share! M28 5'10 SW:349 CW:278 GW:220

Started at 350lbs back in December and am now down to 278lbs. Today I went to put my belt on and cinch it tight and I realized I was out of holes! Looks like I have to go get a new belt this weekend. Also- I've started posting a little bit more on social media recently because I'm feeling better about how I look. Since then I've had 5 girls message me "just to say hi". I'm honestly not trying to brag, but it does feel good to get some attention from the ladies. ( I know, I know /r/humblebrag )

For those curious about how I lost weight; I am doing 8/16IF and Keto. I also do bodyweight exercises 3/4 times a week and 30-45 minutes of cardio the opposite 3/4 days. I hate to say it because no one wants to hear it but in my experience, there is no magical switch that flips for weight loss, its just mental toughness, and every day is a new day to succeed.

I’ve lost 65 lbs since November 2018 and I still feel shitty about my body.

At my heaviest I was 240 lbs, which was hell on my 5’2” frame. I put in the work with dieting and exercise starting November 2018. I stopped going to the gym in April last year because depression/job had me running ragged 12 hours a day. I’ve still done a good job of maintaining since then, and have actually slowly lost and additional 15 lbs since then as well.

People compliment me on the weight loss and tell me I look good....but they don’t see me naked. I was pretty gross before, but I feel absolutely disgusting now. I should mention this was the 2nd time in the last decade I’ve had to go through the effort of losing 60 lbs. I was around 230-240 when I graduated high school and lost 60-65 lbs the summer after freshman year of college. After turning 21 I slowly gained it back and then some, was huge again by age 24. So between 26 & 27 I had to do it all over again. But my boobs are gross. They have lost most of their shape. They look acceptable in a bra but I feel so unattractive the second it comes off. My butt looks fat but somehow also flat at the same time. My stomach is starting to get this crinkle under my belly button where my stretch marks and slightly loose skin are starting to bunch up and be noticeable.

What’s really getting me though is my legs. The front of my thighs and my inner thighs look terrible. Like not even human skin looking. At least before losing the weight I didn’t have these weird craters around my junk...I’m so lonely but I can’t imagine ever getting naked in front of anyone ever again. I am extremely shy around men to begin with (thanks a lot, fat girl childhood) & but usually I am capable of faking confidence until I feel comfortable. Now I just feel like a fraud trying to flirt with guys. I’m just so upset that I still look like shit. I will never be able to afford cosmetic surgery. Anyone else’s legs look like this? This isn’t something that can be fixed by exercise, is it?

Sorry for the self-pity rant, I’m having a friggin week.

How to deal with cravings??

CW: some mentions of biology and mental illness

I have lost almost 10lbs (170 to 162lbs [5'6"]) and I'm having my first period in a while; my tracker app says my last one was in October. This is semi normal for me since I used to be on The Pill™, but I stopped around February when I realized I was gay. Also, my body stops menstruating when I'm stressed and, ya know, pandemic is stressful (this also happens when school starts up again, and hoo boy there's been a lot of school stress too.)

Anyway, the bloat and my crazy hormonal appetite is really making me anxious about my progress. I'm trying to be reasonable and still eat, mostly things like fruit and light Greek yogurt (substitute for ice cream) and many many rice cakes with peanut butter. But yesterday my roommate let me eat a million of their peanut butter filled pretzel bites, and they're way too willing to share, and their diet is almost entirely junk food and soda... so to say their generosity is tempting is an understatement, but I also hate feeling like I'm sabotaging myself.

I haven't been counting my calories these past couple days, trying to go a more intuitive route. I will know and feel I'm satiated but also... I'm still hungry, there's a pang in the pit of my stomach compelling me to keep eating. I am also concerned I'm putting too much pressure on myself to enact all my ideal "lifestyle changes" at once, and I don't know how much leeway to give myself. I've struggled with disordered eating before and I've been doing my best to approach weight loss in a healthy and productive way (i.e. never letting myself purposefully starve, regularly checking in with my body, getting enough rest days, etc etc) but I also don't want to go the other way and overeat because I'm afraid I'm having "skinny thoughts".

Should I just accept my body is doing a body thing and keep eating how I want but with healthy foods? Should I try to still track calories? What are your replacements for junk food?
