NSV Starting With Fitness

Hullo all! I posted here a monthish ago. I wanted to make a small update. My weight has bounced up to 300 again and I decided after my nutrition class ends I will make a meal plan for myself and incorporate some of the advice I've gotten in the past. But, onto the victory and mindset change!

I am very very new to fitness and I thought I'd post to keep track of progress and mark this as a milestone. I am a -1 on the fitness scale, I have always HATED physical activity. I've tried sports but with bad balance and always being overweight it never appealed to me. I've made excuses like, asthma, I'm too big to not hurt myself, I'm sick, I'm tired, it's too late, etc.

Last night I decided to just start making small good choices and this seems like a habit I need to start working on. Many people reccomend a routine even if its small at first. Weight loss is diet based but overall health includes excersize and I desperately need to find a balance with both. I want to be healthy, not just thin eventually.

Last night I did my first workout in years. My boyfriend helped me through it and come up with a plan. We determined calf raises, modified sit ups, wall push ups, russian twists, and squats are the easiest/most effective for me starting out.

I did about 50 or so calf raises by the end. 30 ish sit ups. 10 wall push ups. 5? Russian twists, I didnt count. And probably 15 squats. All of these were done in the course of an hour with many many breaks lol. I also did probably a 30 second (maybe more?) straight arm hold? Im not sure what it's called. I did that while holding very very tiny weighted items.

In that hour I probably did 2 push ups where I'm on my knees instead of feet and determined that is too hard for me at this point. I also managed to do a 2 second plank with like my forearms on the ground, not the push up position one. I really want to eventually do better in those two but that will require work to build up to.

My second work out is in a little while, I'm both excited and nervous. Working out has always been something I've hated but for some reason it just feels like I need to do this and start building good habits for myself instead of using all my excuses.

If anyone has any reccomendations of very very easy workouts or tips for getting over being sore I'd love to hear them!

How do you help yourself remain patient during the weight loss process?

As much as I would like to say I just want to lose weight for health, I admit appearance is a huge factor for me. I'm a college student trying to work off the 50 pounds I gained in my sophomore year. So far I've lost about 15 pounds, which is great! But I guess I'm just a bit impatient and frustrated because I don't really see or feel any difference. I know consciously that the process is very slow and gradual, but I think I'm too externally motivated and don't really feel connected with my goal because of it.

Do you also get impatient when it comes to weight loss? How do you push past the negative feelings? And do you have any external rewards (not food) you use to get you through the tougher days?

New to this sub, lost aprox. 15 lbs.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this sub after watching lukenarwhal on YouTube for about 1 month. Warning : English is not my first language.

I did not weight myself when I started, only about 1 month in my weight loss journey.

I am 28, male. My starting weight was either 255-260 lbs (I weighed myself about 3-4 weeks after the journey), I am 5f10. I am currently down to 240 and very happy about the journey so far (about 2 months).

I have been overweight/obese all my life. I do have a naturally muscular body and I am naturally strong, so my weight alone is not the best indicator of my body fat, however I think 200 lbs for me would be my goal, as I don't think it's possible for me to be healthy and be under 200 lbs (I would need to lose muscle mass) .

I want to lose the weight not only for health reasons and feeling better, but also to geta girlfriend: I have been single for over 5 years and have not had sex a single time during that timeframe. The saddest part for me is I had opportunities for both, but because I feel like shit and I'm too self conscious of my body, I simply did not take those opportunities.

When I was in University, I got up to 270 lbs and went down to 225 lbs. However this was not achieved in a healthy way and after a few months I got all the pounds back.

In the past I tryed to lose weight, but following diets and exercise to only lose motivation and go back to the starting line.

My mindset is different right now however: added sugar is nearly gone from my diet (my goal is under 30g of added sugar and most day's I actually consume under 20g). Fast food is a treat once a week or every 2 weeks. I stuff myself with healthy, nutrients packed foods: broccoli, carrots, celery, quinoa, lean meat, beans, ect. In the past I would simply do portion control but I would feel hungry all day and reach a point where I would binge with high fat/sugar food and lose all the progress I made. I was also a pasta lover, which is now almost completely gone from my diet.

Instead of seeing the weight loss as punishing myself or eating healthy things I don't enjoy, I simply modified the amount of low calorie but filling foods, so when I eat I feel full and not miserable.

I've done 0 exercise/training so far, as I used to do everything in one go and the change was too drastic to follow : my mindset right now is one thing at a time. I may start the gym, and pushing ourselves is required for most people and I will, but to push myself I need to first want it, when that comes I will go.

I can already feel my clothes being looser and needing to put on pants that did not fit anymore, and so far I have been hapoy and feeling great trough the whole process (about 2 months).

Half my plate is veggies, 1/4 is meat and 1/4 "carbs" (which usually is packed also with protein such as quinoa and beans). I also drink 1 smoothie with 2 parts fruits (berries), 1 part veggies (kale or spinach) with whey protein, unsweetenned coconut, flaxseeds or hemp seeds, greek yogurt and unsweetened almond milk.

My snacks are usually seeds and nuts or veggies with homemade hummus, and when I feel like cheating but it's not the time, I have 95% cacao chocolate which I usually eat 2-3 squares only.

She also talks about how she works with female clients with PCOS helping them with weight loss.

She touches on diet, salt intake, and a variety of other things. Although the endometriosis parts of the video aren't related to weight loss, I imagine it could still be interesting for some of you.

1 Year of Making Myself a Priority

A year ago, I looked in the mirror and decided enough was enough. I was 175lbs and the heaviest I’d ever been. I was 140lbs going into college so I’d put on 35lbs in three and a half years. Mostly due to the college lifestyle and partly because I’d gotten comfortable in a 2 year relationship. But as much as being fat bothered me, I still hadn’t been motivated enough to do much about it. I’d try to get healthy now and then but would fall off the wagon. I’d make excuses and tell myself that I’ll just lose the weight when I’m done with college because being in school makes it too hard.

But last February, I had recently moved into a dorm with a kitchen and had been single for a few months. I was no longer confined to dining hall food that is so processed that even the "healthy" options are filled with a lot of empty calories. And it’s not like there are nutrition labels or calories listed for any of it. I also had a bit more free time since I’d broken up with my ex in October. We had enjoyed eating out or ordering in when we were together so I made unhealthy food choices. With my new motivation, a kitchen and a bit more free time; I embarked on my weight loss journey.

As a broke college student, I needed cheap food so most of what I ate was canned vegetables, rice boxes, pasta, oatmeal, granola bars, milk, eggs and meat (turkey, chicken and pork with occasional beef.) For breakfast, I usually had oatmeal or 1 or 2 eggs, sometimes with bread. When I was in a rush, it was a granola bar. For lunch and dinner, I’d usually meal prep 1 rice box with a can of vegetables along with some meat thrown in the oven or sometimes fried. I made sure my portion sizes weren't too big and took note of condiments. I switched out my BBQ sauce for GG Hughes low carb, sugar free BBQ sauce to cut down on calories and I would get sugar free pasta sauce. I also cut back on alcohol since it has so many empty calories and makes me hungry.

During this time I started going to the gym and after a couple weeks on my own, I joined the gym classes to ramp up my workouts. (pro-tip: muscle rub is great for DOMS.) I know a lot of people find gym classes to be intimidating but I find it to be one of the most efficient ways to lose weight since the coaching keeps you going for the entire class time and there’s no stopping to wait for a machine. No one is really paying attention to anyone else in a class anyway. The set class times help put me in the routine of going to the gym because I treated it as an obligation, just like any other class.

After a while, I ordered a Fitbit. Once I got it and downloaded the app, I started tracking my calories and practicing CICO. For the first time in my life, I consistently logged calories on an app. Besides my new motivation to be fit, I think it’s a lot easier to remember to log calories when you’re wearing a tracker on your wrist every day. I love my Fitbit and think it’s really helped me stay on track. I didn’t have a number in mind when I first decided to lose weight but as time went on, I had a goal to lose 20lbs by graduation and be 155lbs. I was 153lbs at my college graduation in May and felt so confident walking across that stage to receive my degree after 4 years of hard work.

Over the summer I didn't have complete control over my food since I was back at my parents house. So I just focused on maintaining but managed to lose 4lbs over the summer thanks to an active restaurant job. When I started grad school in August, I didn’t buy a membership to the school gym since I wasn’t sure I’d have time between a full-time graduate course load and a 20hr grad assistantship position. Turns out I was right but despite how busy I was, I made weight loss a priority and decided to stick to 1200 calories a day and went low carb to stay at or under that limit. (Tried keto but it wasn’t for me.) This helped me get down to 130 by December, despite the holidays messing me up for 2/3 weeks.

By the end of last year, I had decided to leave my graduate program because I’d realized it wasn’t a good fit and couldn’t see myself continuing. So I returned back home in December. So this year has been a bit slower with weight loss. I’m currently 127lbs so just shy of my 50lb goal for a year of weight loss but proud of how far I’ve come. I’m planning on joining a gym soon so I can create a bigger calorie deficit and get down to 100lbs or less so I can be at an ideal weight and start recomposition to achieve a flat stomach and an hourglass shape. This is the year I turn my weight loss journey into a fitness journey!

Lost 23lb 😬👍

I heard that weight loss is basically 80% diet and, 10% exercise and, boy do i ever agree. I have a stepper machine that I bought last month. I was doing good with at least 30 minutes a day. Since February, I havent used it. I was definately afraid of stepping on the scale. But, yesterday I checked and, ive actually lost more weight. Ive lost another 5lb since January 21st.

I'm happy to know that my diet is working out great. Staying away from temptations is hard when somebody else you live with, is madly in love with junk food and, tries to offer you some.

I'm petty thankful for my strong will here. Even when I slacked off on the exercise a little. But, it seems that my daily activities helped me aling the way though.
