My mom attributes my weight loss to an unrelated surgery

I've been losing weight for about 9 months now, and in late January I had surgery for ovarian torsion. I guess around that time my weight loss had become noticeable because every so often my mom makes a comment that I only lost weight because I had surgery. It feels like a slap in the face because I've been tracking my calories and lost 27lbs before I even had the surgery. The thing is, I'm losing weight at the same pace as before I had surgery.

I try not to talk to her about weight loss or anything of the sort, but she always mentions the topic, then brings up my surgery. It always happens when she complains about her weight, and I suggests she eats less, or I'll be existing and she'll make a comment about it. My weight loss isn't drastic, and I'm just a little smaller, so I dont understand why it's a hot topic. I just want her to stop mentioning the surgery. It's rude and dismissive of the effort I put in to lose weight, and quite frankly, I dont want to be reminded of it.

Weight loss and emotional eating

Any of you have some good advice for emotional eating? I’ve been trying to lose weight for some time, but every single time something stressful comes up in my life I find myself eating more and more sugar. I’ve tried to only keep it to diet sodas so it won’t make me gain anything, but when the stress comes it seems impossible to stop eating!! My normal eating habits like breakfast, lunch and dinner are no problem, but at worst I can eat 1500-2000calories just in chocolate bars, which feels horrible when I know this is the one thing I need to get control over to actually achieve my weight loss goal of 10kg.

Need to lose as much weight as possible in 3 days

Hello I fucked up and made the dumbest bet of my life. I have to get down to 280 by Tuesday and right now I'm at 287. I think a huge portion of the weight is water weight or poop though so I think if I take a laxative maybe it might get me down a few pounds, I'm also working out 3 hours a day. But I just wanted to know if you guys know any other way that I can lose this weight in 3 days max. I was thinking about maybe taking a sauna right before the bet is over to lose water weight and make it seem like I lost more than I did. I just really can't lose this bet, I'm already down at least 25 pounds in less than a month, I can't let that weight loss be for nothing

Losing Weight While Breastfeeding?

I'm nearly 12 weeks postpartum (which I know isn't that long) and while I had heard breastfeeding can help with weight loss, that doesn't seem to be the case for me. I'm as active as my body can manage (min. 3km walk 5 days a week, yoga 3 days a week), but where I'm struggling is diet. Feeding my baby is a lot of work and I'm so hungry that I feel like I'm constantly grazing in the kitchen. I'm also craving a lot of salt and sugar, which isn't helping.

During the pregnancy, I had gestational diabetes and while it's gone now, I know I need to get myself into better shape to keep it away in the long run.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice for me? I want to be healthy for myself and my family, but it feels *so* hard.

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Sunday, 09 May 2021? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

I finally reached my desired weight!

Today when I was standing in a weighting scale. The number made me smile.(been a while since the last time I checked.) And I'm so happy. Also I noticed something weird😆. When I saw my weight on the scale, I started feeling hungry even tho I felt completely full before that;weird huh? I guess it was all mental. So I came home and I had a nice dinner. My crooked body image is gone now. I feel so pretty.

I tried to be more active.I did cardio at home and I did intermittent fasting. Fasting wasn't much of a challenge for me because I didn't have any appetite anyways. I've lost 4kg. It's not much but I've worked for it. I wish ya'll luck on your weight loss journey.❤🖐

Today is my Day 1 of weight loss.

Possible TW for eating disoders?

Hello everyone! I’m a 15 year old with major weight issues. I have, quite literally, been overweight my whole life. I was born big and have never experienced being a normal weight.

I’m actually kind of scared. I’ve struggled with bad eating (binging and severe restricting). Not only that, but my whole family has a slow metabolism and I am not an exception to that. I’m scared I’ll give up. I’m scared I'll give up.

I’ve finally realized how much my weight is affecting me a few days ago- i’m now considering prediabetes at 15. That scares ne and I want to change. I’m tired of being miserable and letting food control my life. I’m here now and I WILL lose weight.
