Long-term weight maintenance requires effort

Between 2018-2019 I went from 175 lbs to 145 lbs. It wasn't my goal weight but I deserved a break from calorie counting and dieting. I ate whatever I wanted thinking I could be mindful. In the last year I ended up gaining 5+ lbs and once I realized, lost them. I'm now 145 and trying again to hit my goal weight of 130. A few weeks ago when starting, I was finding it hard to cut calories before I realized that I needed to be eating way more veggies and fruits to stay full. Clearly I had forgotten all of my weight loss tips and therefore healthy eating as well. I've been finding it hard to stay at 1500 and instead eating about 1800 a week. However I've realized that it's okay. I'd rather take a few years to lose this weight and continue eating healthy and staying trim the rest of my life than yo-yo dieting forever. Everyone's journey is different and I'm at a healthy weight which is why I don't feel a sense of urgency. Even after I hit my goal weight and stop counting calories, I will continue to eat tons of fruits and veggies and be mindful of what I'm eating forever. That's how people stay trim and healthy without dieting.

TLDR: successful weight loss will not last unless you continue mindful healthy eating habits

It's like my body physically cannot get past this weight...

I'm a 26 y.o. male had a lot of success with weight loss in the first quarter of this year. I started in January around 240 and I am currently 191. MOST of that weight loss happened up to May. Since then I have seen short bursts of weight loss but mostly it's just been stagnant.

I am beginning to lose my mind because it seems as though my body physically WILL NOT go below my current weight. The lowest I've ever been was 189 but that was for one day and the next I was back up to 191. I believe it's now been over a month since I noted any significant amount of weight loss. I recently took a one week vacation where I slacked on diet, went up a few pounds, but when I kicked back into gear I quickly went back down to 191 and then immediately stopped losing for the last 10 days. I'm going mad.

For the record, I'm not focusing on weight training so don't hit me with the "maybe you're gaining muscle" thing.

I feel like I already know what most people will say, to just keep at it and that plateaus happen you just have to move past them. I guess I just need encouragement to go on if anything, because I'm actually just getting pissed every time I step on the scale now. I used to see 1-2 pounds come off a week, and now this it's all very frustrating.

You know that eating healthy and losing excess weight are good for your well-being. But did you also know that your healthy diet happens to be the eco-friendly choice?

That’s right—your Nutrisystem weight loss plan can help to conserve our natural resources and protect our planet. From properly portioned meals and home delivery to our new and improved “fresh frozen” coolers, our program is a great start to a sustainable lifestyle. We’re taking a big step to help you go green and do even more to help the environment. There’s only one earth and it’s up to us to take care of it. We’re all in this together!

5 Reasons Nutrisystem is the Best Diet Plan to Become Your Best You

Go green with Nutrisystem! Here are seven ways you can live more sustainably on our program:

1. New Biodegradable Boxes

eco-friendly

Packaging and containers accounted for more than 80 million tons of municipal solid waste in 2017, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This was about 30 percent of the trash that ended up in landfills.

eco-friendly

Nutrisystem is committed to reducing the environmental impact of our products so that we can help to decrease this shocking percentage. That’s why we’ve developed new biodegradable boxes that are more sustainable than ever!

Designed to reduce the impact of your daily diet on the waste stream, these new “fresh frozen” coolers still bring your favorite Nutrisystem foods directly to your door in a strong, secure package. Groundbreaking technology allowed us to create an eco-friendly cooler with the same look, feel and functionality you’ve come to know and trust from Nutrisystem.

recycle

The boxes are made with thermally robust and environmentally-friendly materials, making them great to reuse and repurpose. Use them for storage, gardening or fishing gear. Take them on beach trips, picnics and sports games for your cold foods and beverages. Many places also accept them as donations, such as animal shelters, churches, local shelters and food banks.

eco-friendly

These biodegradable boxes are also recyclable, if that’s the better choice where you live. You can recycle them with polystyrene products at your local recycling plant.

If you don’t have a need for these coolers in your home, you can also dispose of them worry-free. Our new eco-friendly containers are also biodegradable,* so you have the option to put them in the regular trash can and nature will safely break them down at the landfill.

We want you feel good about choosing Nutrisystem for your weight loss goals. Our new eco-friendly “fresh frozen” coolers can help you decrease your waste and live sustainably. Help the planet become a healthier place while you become a healthier you!

eco-friendly

2. Home Delivery

eco-friendly

Shopping online for at-home delivery of your food rather than driving to the grocery store can help reduce pollution and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The EPA estimates that weekly trips to the grocery store generate 17 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in the environment. Efficient delivery routes can cut emissions dramatically, the agency reports.

Stocking up on meals and snacks from Nutrisystem will save you many trips to the store while simultaneously decreasing your carbon footprint. We make healthier versions of all your favorite foods, including pasta, burgers, grilled chicken and even pizza. You can also skip that late-night snack run, as we offer plenty of snack options to satisfy your midnight cravings. From our sweet cookies and cupcakes to our popcorn and cheese puffs, you’re sure to find a new favorite treat!

3. Seasonal Shopping

eco-friendly

Supermarket produce shelves are loaded with a staggering variety of choices all year long. However, many items are transported thousands of miles before they get to the store, says the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture. When you pick fruits and vegetables that are in season in your region, they don’t have to travel as far before you eat them, saving resources and protecting the environment. Even better, produce harvested closer to home tends to be fresher, tastier and more nutritious than items that were picked weeks before they to get to you.

You’ll be eating at least four servings of non-starchy vegetables each day on Nutrisystem. You can also add in fresh fruit as your fiber-rich SmartCarbs! Don’t know what’s in season where you are? Check out this article for some shopping tips! SeasonalFoodGuide.org also has state-by-state listings so you can find out what to buy in your region at any time of the year.

4. Easy Meal Planning

meal planning

Thinking ahead about what you want to eat each week is a smart weight loss strategy. Meal planning helps you avoid impulsive decisions to eat unhealthy food when you’re famished and you don’t have good choices available to you. It’s also an eco-friendly way to eat: Just like a home delivery, planning and stocking up on the supplies you need reduces the number of trips you make to the grocery store each week.

With your Nutrisystem program, we send you a simple and easy-to-follow meal plan to refer too. This meal plan will lay out what a typical day looks like and provides a detailed view of what you will need to pick up for the week. You can stock up on pantry and freezer staples that you know you will always go back to, such as frozen or canned produce, nuts, beans and more. Print out our comprehensive Grocery Guide and highlight your top picks to streamline your shopping trip. Make sure to also download NuMi, our FREE online tracking app that makes meal planning a breeze.

5. Eat Greener

eco-friendly

With your Nutrisystem weight loss plan, you’re enjoying lots of vegetables and fruits, beans and legumes, nuts and whole grains. You should be adding in at least four servings of non-starchy vegetables each day. These ingredients are naturally high in nutrients but low in calories and saturated fats. They are also packed with fiber, making them a satisfying choice when you’re feeling hungry. Add unlimited quantities of  to your Nutrisystem meals, eat them as snacks and enjoy unlimited fresh salads and steamed veggies as side dishes.

In addition to being nutritious and delicious, plant-based foods like vegetables are also the most eco-friendly ingredients on your plate. By making plants like non-starchy veggies the bulk of your dish, your meal will be a more sustainable choice: They require less water, land and energy to produce and transport than meat and dairy products.

For tons of tempting plant-based recipes filled with fresh fruits and veggies, check out the Recipe section right here on The Leaf Weight Loss Blog! Nutrisystem even has a Vegetarian program that’s filled with delicious meatless meals.

6. Portion Control

eco-friendly

Between 30 to 40 percent of the United States food supply goes to waste, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration. That’s more than 40 million tons of food that ends up in the trash each year, along with all of the resources that went into producing and delivering it.

Planning your meals with just the right portions for you can help you cut down on your food waste and be more eco-friendly. Managing your own portion sizes is also one of the smartest strategies for cutting down on your own waist; that’s a win-win for you and the environment! Nutrisystem sends you perfectly portioned versions of your favorite meals and snacks. We also teach you how to build your own healthy Flex meals using proper portion sizes.

7. Look for Local

shop local

On Nutrisystem, you will add in some groceries like fresh veggies, fruits, eggs and beans. You can reduce your “food miles” even further and help preserve farmland and other open spaces in your area by purchasing these grocery additions from local growers. Buying directly from farmers is an eco-friendly choice, helping them to keep their land in productive use and protecting it from development. “Shopping at the farmers market, maintaining a home garden, or participating in a CSA are wonderful ways to support a local food system,” says the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture.

Whether you shop at a farmer’s market or a roadside stand at an individual farm, you also can ask questions and get recipe ideas about the items you’re buying from the growers who know their products best. Of course, the fresh-picked food from farms will be at its peak of flavor and nutrition. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) maintains a listing of farmer’s markets you can search by zip code on their website.

Yes I'm getting a Tummy Tuck, no I'm not ashamed

Hello all,

Since June 2019 I have lost approx 71lbs

I was hoping that my skin would bounce back and that I'd have a normal body, but I was sadly wrong.

My stretch marks, which never bothered me appearance wise, have caused long term damage to my skin causing many parts of my body to sag and hang. My arms? Okay whatever, My chest? Doesn't bother me too much, but my belly? Yeah, it bothers me a whole lot. It is covered in marks and sags the most.

Despite finishing Couch to 5k and starting 5K to 10K, despite losing 71 lbs and fixing my diet. Despite all that, here we are. Getting surgery.

Sometimes weight loss isn't enough to get to your body image goals. And that's okay. Don't feel ashamed about it. At the end of the day you are healthier, physically stronger, and hopefully happier than you were before.

Don't give up! And if you need a little bit of extra help like I do, don't be ashamed!

People who lost weight and kept it off... Is walking enough?

I have been trying to lose 10kg for the last 8 years. Before it was 5kg now it slowly increased to 10kg. I don't have much problem with managing my nutrition (I tend to have unhealthy spells once in a while when I have something else going on in life, but I can get back on track). My main issue is with exercise. I do not like it! Doing 10 squats, 20 lunges... I can do it for 21 or 30 days, but not more than that. Walking is something I generally enjoy and do not mind doing though. I want to lose 10kg in 3 months, which most people say is healthy and doable. I want to use walking to get myself into the habit of exercising. My question is, will that also be enough for the 10kg weight loss? H: 5'7" SW:70kg CW:70kg GW:60kg Female

Is obese spouse trying to sabotage my weight loss efforts? I’m overweight.

Since we got married, we have both gained weight. Me about 20kg, him enough to put him in the morbidly obese range.

I feel very uncomfortable at this weight and have been unable to manage my weight like I used to when I was single. I gain weight easily and I love to eat, so I have always needed to manage it and pay attention to balancing my diet and exercise.

Of course I know I that what I eat is in my control, but being more aware of his attitude is making me wonder if he is affecting me more than I realised.

I’ve been confused about why I haven’t been able to manage my weight like I used to but I’m starting to realise his lack of support, or fake support, may be a large contributing factor.

I have started to pay attention to things he says to me regarding food and I think he may be sabotaging me, most likely unknowingly. He has very strange habits and beliefs about food and probably doesn’t know he does it.

The last two weeks I’ve been trying to eat better and he has tried to convince me to eat fast food multiple times.

On one occasion : “Let’s order a pizza.” When I declined, “you’re going to meet a friend tomorrow for lunch, it’s not like you’re going to eat healthy then. Be realistic. You know you’re going to eat badly tomorrow. Why are you trying to pretend you’re eating healthy?”

He has also commented that I’m not eating enough at night and need to eat more. ( he likes to binge eat at night, but if I wrap up my eating by 8pm I feel amazing the next morning).

“You need to have a cheat meal today.” When I said I didn’t feel like having one, he went off on a rant about what’s the point in picking a cheat day and then not doing it, it defeats the purpose of it all...yada yada yada”

If we are out and get a coffee, he’ll often ask if I want a dessert too, and when I refuse, he’ll buy one for us to share and get pissy when I don’t have any.

His whole family are obsessed with weight and dieting, at the same time they are serious food pushers. even though they are all overweight. I don’t know how I’ll handle them either.

Any strategies for dealing with this? I just want to go back to my healthy weight that I felt good at. It feels like a battle.

New scale leads to NSV

I bought a fancy new scale that measures body fat and is more accurate to the .2 lb rather than the cheap scale I had that measured to the .5lb and nothing else. I was treating myself to this upgrade for almost reaching my half way mark (SW 200, GW 150, CW174). Stepped on and i went from 177 on my old scale to 174 on the new one. I tested them both with a 20lb bag of flour and they both came in at the same weight. This made me question everything and got me looking for other 'proof' of my weight loss as I couldn't trust the scales. Old jeans that I grew too big to wear, now too small, my belt: I now measure 5 inches smaller than the hole I used to use. Bras no longer fit right, too big. Honestly I didn't notice. With COVID I have been wearing stretchy pants and workout tops every day working from home. But today I appreciated that the cute work out tops I bought are no longer stretched over me, they actually look cute. I'm only 3 months in, I hope to reach my goal by Christmas, which should be a fun test! I lost a lot of weight a bunch of years ago but didn't look how I thought I would so I went right back to old habits and now I look at this pictures and think I was crazy not to see the change. I just didn't look like my super thin sister who wasn't 'blessed' with my hips, curves, or chest. This time I'm taking it slow and appreciating the little things so I can keep it up.
