16 Year old [M] wanting to lose weight

Hi all, I'm a 16 year old male and I weigh around 123 Kilograms (270 LBS) and it's pretty embarrassing to be this large at such a young age. (I'm sorry in advanced about how mixed up and random this post is but I'm not sure how to put it into words.) I was originally 130KGS at 15 but wasn't attending school, but now that I am I've dropped around 7KGS just from being active at school.

I want to change it badly, My mother is a woman who likes to make lots of food and put lots on your plate, and I've sorta grown up with the mentality to always eat everything on your plate, even if you're not hungry, which I'd like to stop.

I am also a big sugar eater/drinker but i'm not sure where to start with stopping those cravings and urges.

I'm generally not sure where to start with my weight loss, I just want to be able to feel comfortable around other people who are a lot smaller and skinnier than me. My big goal is to weigh around 100KGS by the time I turn 18 (600ish days), thank you :)

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Monday, 08 October 2018? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Feeling Frustrated and Envious

It’s not often I have gotten to this mindset in my weight loss journey, but lately I have been feeling completely overwhelmed with how badly I want to be skinny. Not just healthy, which is the real goal I stick to, but genuinely skinny. I see people of recognizably smaller sizes than myself and feel such a strong hatred of myself for not being that size. For a little bit of context, I’m 5’2, F, 200 lbs (down 20 in like 1.7 years), and I have PCOS. The struggle to lose weight has been very real, especially with PCOS and my desire to take it slow with no severe/immediate life changes. I try to do step-by-step. That, however, means there is a lot of trial-by-error and opportunity to slip up. Lately, my MFP numbers have been ridiculous because I’m a busy college student with lots of friends who like to get food. It seems like every other day I have a birthday party or a date with friends that involves food. Before this semester, that hadn’t seemed to have such an impact on how I view myself because I wasn’t CICO. Now that I’m tracking calories, I feel like trash because I’m so often going over my goals. Even losing a couple pounds after plateauing for months hasn’t done much to make me feel better despite the fact that this plateau was driving me crazy! Sorry to word vomit, I just want to vent to folks who will understand. I’m sure in a couple of days I will be back on my slow and steady horse, but for now I’m going to stare lustily at a mustang. Thanks for reading!

TL;DR: I’m losing weight super slow, I’m eating out too much out of social obligation, and lately I am insanely focused on wanting to be skinny for no discernible reason.

I know what you’re thinking…

This girl shares a LOT of banana recipes!

Okay, I’ll admit, I do share a lot of banana recipes. But when you have a family of five, four of them being males, you tend to go through a LOT of bananas! Therefore, I always have brown bananas at the end of the week, hence, all of the banana recipes 😉

There are so many things you can make with bananas.

This time, I was looking for something a little bit different.

I remember being a kid and loving cinnamon toast. Heck, I still love it today, and so do my kids! So I thought, why not add a cinnamon topping to some basic banana muffins.

As it turns out, this was a fantastic idea.

Chubby Gamer needs to cut weight, ideas on a low carb diet paired with fitness challenge?

I'm 24 and i have 26.5 bmi, I'm considering myself way to fat while sitting most day in front of the computer and I want to change it!! Thats why I found this diet.It promises fast weight loss. Thats what I want: cut weight and do it fast as possible !

So my friend is always doing fitness stuff and he incented me to follow his recent challenge, I will edit a youtube link later so you can see details of my body.

Im doing the push-up challenge for 1 week now, and i really feel some strength gains in my upper body, but i feel a bit weak because of the lack of muscle regeneration and the lack of CARBS.... i miss the taste of cola..guess im a sugar addict!

Edit:: here is the video https://youtu.be/U15rgSt2RQk where you can see my body

is there any way to improve the fusion of diet and challenge maybe change nutrition a bit more carbs or are any carbs bad?

would apreciate to see interesting thoughts!

greetings Hans

NewsFlash: Hubby finally comments on weight loss

Oh yes. I did not see this one coming.

I hide a lot from the rest of the world, however much I can. I believe the more people I tell my goals to, the farther I am from it. CICO, measuring, etc. But since I share a room with my hubby :D , he's in on it. Not because I want to share (or that he wants to know), just because we are around each other a lot.

He knows I hide a weighing scale in my closet, he knows when I drink my secret protein shake after gym, he knows when I am checking myself out in the mirror, he knows when I am trying strange hair experiments - I am CG for a while now and fellow curlies will know what I am taking about.

I have lost 10kgs in the past 130 days (yay!). The changes were evident to my parents right away, my in laws soon after and pretty much everyone in the family said something when they saw me a wedding recently.

However, hubby has been quite mum. Which is good and bad. Good because he doesn't notice/comment on gains either. He isn't super observant and also I am super sensitive about my weight so early on in our relationship, it was pretty clear that anyone's weight is none of our business and I am not down to talk about sizes.

He commented about my arms being thin last week in the dark in bed, but that was about it- comments wise. We went to the beach on Saturday. As we were walking, he put his hands on my waist and said. Now I finally see it. You've lost weight! Look at this figure! as he ran his hands along both the sides of my torso, staring at it. I was like huh. Really? Thanks, being uber cool. But I was jumping inside. :D

Note: The clothes I wore to the beach were new (none of my pants stayed on anymore so I had bought a tshirt and a pair of pants to wear in public. :P ) So that might have had something to do with him noticing? IDK. It was pretty awesome though.

Have a great week starting/losing/maintaining, you guys! <3
