Howdy folks. Looking to see if anyone can share some insight, experience or knowledge here.
Quick stats, I'm 5'9", 268lbs (19st 2lb). Maintenance calories for my size are approx 3,000.
I've always hovered around 18stone, in the last ten years, I'd say, I've probably had 3 good weight loss bouts, were I've dropped weight off in fast time, before holidays and such (I'm talking like 3 stone in 3 months, about 3 times in my life, so quite big drops). Problem i've had in the past is I come back from the holiday, have nothing to look forward to, and gain the weight back out of boredom.
This time things are slightly different, and I have already a few bits on for 2020 that'll make me want to get to a healthy-ish weight.
My problem is that I am on holiday in October, to a theme park, and need to shift my initial weight fast. This has never been an issue in the past, the weight has peeled off me. But my diet has always been good, as has my exercise routine.
I'd normally drop about 3 stone in 3 months, then hit a wall and start getting into 'realistic' weight losses of 1-2lb per week. Which is fine with me as a general rule of thumb. However, this time around, I started at 20st 7lbs (287lbs) and over 6 week I've gotten to 19st 1lbs (267). This week, I managed to actually gain 1lb!
I know my diet is good. As far as I am concerned the only scientific approach to weight loss/gain is calories in/calories out, so that's the only system I use. I tend to eat lots of microwaveable ready meals (Spaghetti Bolognese, Lasagne, Chilli Con Carne, Sunday Roast dinners, Shepherds pie etc.) as they're pre-packaged and have a calorie count on the box (and they're cheap which is always a bonus). It means I can't feck up on the calorie side of things because it's already been worked out for me.
I'm taking in between 800-1200 calories per day. I'm drinking lots of tea (ie; water), only soft drink I touch are the calorie-free versions, I used to swallow whole tubs of haribo and pringles in a single sitting, but not a single sweet, crisp or piece of chocolate has crossed my lips in nearly 5 weeks.
I am completely stumped as to how I've managed to hit a wall without even getting beyond 19st (266lbs). I'm frustrated and bewildered.
I've researched intermittent fasting, alternate day fasting, etc. but although these appeal to me now, they're not methods I've needed to use before. My exercising hasn't been great this time around, but I don't think that should impact too heavily on my weight loss, as it's more a diet thing (and I'm very happy with how diet's going).
Anyone got any ideas or strategies they can suggest? I'm looking at 5 weeks and I need to get at least another 1st 7lbs off (21lbs, and I have 38 days to do it, which although it sounds like a lot to ask, keep in mind I am already very heavy and initial weight loss for someone my size would generally be quite good).
Cheers to anyone who has read this. If I had hit 16 or 17 stone and hit a wall, I'd be understanding of it, but this just seems too soon to be running into these issues.
Thanks,
KKV
