I’ve literally been at a plateau since early June

So I started my diet around March and I’ve lost 19lbs ever since. To be honest I found it unexpectedly easy to lose weight, as all it took was switching from iterally hardcore binging every day to eating normally and maybe gorging 1-3 times per week. My original idea was to go on a strict 1000-1200kcal a day regimen, but I soon realized how unsustainable that was for someone who has such a big appetite as myself. Nevertheless I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was still losing at an okay-ish pace. Quarantine also helped a lot because I stopped eating out and although kept my big portions I was able to make healthy meals.

Then June came around and the lockdown was lifted and my weight loss was extremely affected. I went back to going out and drinking and overall let the guard down a bit. As a result I lost literally 0 lbs, which still baffles me because I even went on a 4-day unintentional fast because of an episode with medication-induced nausea. I think I quickly managed to get back on track habits-wise, but still I can’t seem to drop below 137lbs, which is pretty far from my GW.

In all honestly, I’m a bit disheartened and kinda frustrated over the fact that I most likely won’t be able to reach my GW by late September (it’s when I’ll be off to college and I kinda wanted one of those summer-after-high-school-glow-ups). I guess that’d still be possible to achieve if I went hard for the next 2.5 months, but I don’t think I have it in me to.

Anyway I feel like post this came off as more upset than I actually am. My mental health has majorly improved over the past few months due to finally having found the right combination of meds and I genuinely feel so much happier and calmer than I’ve ever been before. So it’s definitely not something I’m completely obsessing about, as as much as I’d look better slimer I don’t think my current weight is one that negatively affects my physical health (unlike my SW).

Nonetheless it’s still something that would make me happy to achieve it, therefore I’d appreciate if you commented your best tips on how to lose weight fast and efficiently and perhaps shared if you’ve ever been through a long plateau-ing phase as well. Thanks in advance.

How I lost 37lbs in about a year or less

I know that a lot of you have lost more weight in less time, but this has been, out of all of my weight loss progress over the past 2-3 years, the most consistent, and something that I can stick with for life. For the first time in 19 years, I picked up my first dumbell as a college freshman and have been a consistent calorie-tracking monster for over a year now. I went from 210 to now, 173lbs, and am about 15 lbs away from my goal weight(give it about 4-6 months, so by December). I just did it by not limiting foods, and just controlling what I eat, and working out on an ICF5x5 4-6 days a week along with Cardio. And most of all, I am now at 17% BF, and cannot honestly wait to drop to 11%, but we'll see how that goes haha. Wish the rest of y'all good things on this journey toooo!!!

Advice: Is my sweet tooth ruining my progress?

19F, 5’7”, CW: 150lbs, GW: 135 lbs

I’ve just started to actively try and lose weight, using a combination of CICO and exercise. I try to stay under 1200 calories a day, and I don’t have much of a problem doing it. Except for when it comes to my extreme cravings.... I have quite the sweet tooth. Every day I have dessert, whether it’s a lot of fruit, a bag of Smart Sweets candy, or a serving size of cookie dough or ice cream. I’m able to eat any of this while maintaining my calorie goals, but are they ruining my weight loss?

I know these foods aren’t the most nutritious, especially the candy, cookies, and ice cream. I could be using my extra calories to eat something “better for me,” but I really can’t help it. I need to eat dessert, or I know (from experience) I’ll have an uncontrollable binge at the end of the week. Is weight loss solely CICO, or does what you eat really matter?

PSA: Morbidly Obese/SMO are at higher risk of severe disease from COVID19 (Coronavirus) and what you can do about it

I originally posted this in the /r/SuperMorbidlyObese sub however I've seen a lot of other obese people around reddit very worried about COVID19 and so I wanted to try and share this with a larger sub.

It's pretty well established now that there is link between morbid obesity and more severe COVID19 outcomes (COVID19 is the disease that is caused by contracting sars-cov-2/coronavirus). The US CDC lists obesity as a risk factor for severe disease outcomes: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html#obesity

They aren't sure on the reason why yet and they aren't such how much of an extra risk it is, it takes time to research all of this. One possible reason could be because obesity causes a low grade inflammation which can essentially put your immune system at a disadvantage. Some more info here if you are curious: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fphys.2019.01607/full

Whatever the reason, what you can say though is that losing weight is absolutely the best thing you can do. Even if it feels pointless because you may think "I'll catch the virus before I can get to a normal BMI", while that might happen, studies have shown that even mild weight loss can start to greatly improve your immune system:

“We have found that a modest weight loss of about 6 kg is enough to bring the pro- inflammatory nature of circulating immune cells back to that found in lean people.” https://www.garvan.org.au/news-events/news/the-remarkable-effects-of-fat-loss-on-the-immune-system

Personally when I learned the above it was a great relief! I'm still above 50BMI so it's going to take a long time for me to get my BMI down, but reading that even 'modest' weight loss can improve your immune system is great news, a very attainable goal that we can achieve in the interim. If you were on the fence about starting then get off the fence and start today, so you can be in the best position possible if/when you contract the virus.

Finally I want to mention that there is the emerging evidence that low vitamin D levels are being found in patients with more severe COVID19 disease.

This is worth mentioning because there is also a strong link between obesity and low vitamin D levels.

What can you do about this? I suggest talking to your Doctor about having your vitamin D levels checked. They might even already have data if you've had a blood test recently. I was told last year that I had low vitamin D levels but I didn't take it seriously at the time. To be honest I always felt vitamins were kind of a meme, as bad as that sounds. I'm now taking vitamin D supplements as advised by my Doctor.

Even disregarding COVID19, it's worth having your vitamin D checked if you are morbidly obese/SMO, as low vitamin D can have other negative health effects.

So those are two very simple things you can do to really help improve your health in a short time frame!

WARNING: I'm just going to add in a warning here just in case, Vitamin D is fat soluble, which means it is possible to 'overdose' on vitamin D, ie, it can be toxic if you take a huge dose. I just wanted to add this in case someone panics and tries to down a whole bottle of Vitamin D supplements to try and 'catch up' or something. You should always talk to your Doctor before taking any medications/vitamins.

Do I have an eating disorder?

So when I was a kid (around 9-13 years old). I had to go to the doctor almost all the time. I was morbidly obese, always out of breath, had dieticians, would get tested for diabeties type 2 and hormonal imbalance, doctors suggested weight loss surgery and one doctor told me that if I don’t lose weight I will not be able to walk by the time I am 20. I ignored it all as the 9-13 year old I was. My childhood was quite miserable with no friends and bullying etc

Come 17 I decided lose everything and I’m 19 now at a very healthy weight with no diabeties and can still walk. The thing is I’m afraid of food. Like really afraid of it. I’m always weighing myself all the time, I track calories obsessively and won’t go to a restaurant if I can’t count the calories in the meal. Whenever I eat something bad I would have breakdowns about it. I just hate eating and I despise meal time and I think this is a problem. Do I have some sort of eating disorder?

24 YO Male who is 6FT5IN - Needing to urgently loose weight.

As per the title.

I am 24 years old and since lockdown begun I have gained approx 1 to 2 KG.

My current weight as of yesterday is 121.4 KG (267 LB).

I am expecting to return to work soon potentially and need to get myself fit in order to work safely and comfortably. I have also read some things which suggest that Covid may be now a cardiovascular virus based on some recent research and also many of the symptoms it now causes. My BPM is quite high (95 BPM - Used to be way lower and in the 70s 2 years ago) and I am concerned that I need to get myself much fitter as if I was to get Covid I could be at serious risk to my health.

I am already heading in the right direction in terms of weight loss (was 132 KG last year) and also I am a non-smoker (big benefit to lowering BPM), I dont want to change my diet to with extreme drastic changes but I do want to focus on becoming more fit and also losing substantial levels of weight quickly.

Is there any advice I could possibly have for doing this? Anything is appreciated!
