Do you think the intensity of how much you want to lose weight changes anything?

I've been chubby since 8 years old, I vaguely remember my first ever diet around this age. I would attempt to eat only 2 sandwiches on the weekends, it often wouldn't work but I would try so hard. I have memories of different attempts throughout my life, badly injuring myself from doing some awful squat exercises, almost fainting from hypoglycemia, eating nothing but quinoa broccoli chicken and egg and bread for MONTHS.

I'd love to know how everyone feels about this, but from my experiences I have to conclude that the degree to which you want to lose weight means absolutely nothing. There are moments when you're heavily inspired to lose weight for whatever reason, but that is just a time to try and build habits since the inspiration itself will never last long. I've been chasing weight loss since I have been a child, I've thought about every single day without fail for 19 years. I'm still not close to where I want to be.

The longer I try to lose weight the more I'm beginning to feel that focusing less on how much you want it makes it easier to fall into good habits and stay there. Or is it just me? Let me know!

Just as a side note if anyone could shine some insight on this next question that would be great, I'm very confused.

27M 5'11 - 6 years ago my original SW was 315 I lost 35lbs and had to put a new hole in my belt at 280. I gained 50lbs back to reach 330. I'm now at 250 which is the lowest I've been since 16, but the self-made hole in my belt isn't very comfortable. I can wear it but I'd much rather go for a looser notch, but if it fit comfortably at 280 the first time round....

Can anyone explain how this is possible please? I had chronic pain and didnt move much at all for 18 months, could it be that I lost 10lbs+ of muscle?! Seems severe.

tlDR MY BELT FIT BETTER WHEN I WAS HEAVIER, HOW CAN THIS BE?

Gaining weight despite major changes in calories and exercise

I’m 5 ft 5, 63 kg with a goal weight of 58kg

As I’ve been getting older (29yrs), I’ve noticed that my weight is really piling on. I used to be able to eat anything (in that I’d never calorie count) and stay at 58-59kg.

For the past two weeks, I’ve restricted to 1300 max and 60 minute cardio sessions 3x per week (burning 400 calories, not eating those back) yet the scale isn’t budging. I’m hovering around 63.2kg to 63.6kg. I am someone who has never exercised in my life, so the cardio sessions were a great shock to my system.

Is it normal to have no weight loss or weight gain even despite two weeks of changes? I’ve read on Google about muscles retaining water but I’m not sure how true this is. I’m feeling really disheartened and close to giving up - just don’t know what’s wrong with me! Is it because I’m new to any kind of physical exertion? Has anyone else experienced this esp when they were a newbie?

Tips to slow down weight loss

Stats F/30/5’4” SW: 206 lbsCW: 188.6 lbs GW: 150lbs (This GW is not set in stone. My ultimate goal is to be healthy and comfortable). I know this may not be the typical advice people are looking for on here. I started my new healthy lifestyle on April 7th, 2021 for health reasons. Since then I’ve lost 18 pounds. That gives me on average of 2lbs lost per week. I’ve been achieving this through CICO, eating unprocessed Whole Foods 80% of the time, cutting out sugary drinks, and minimal exercise. However, I’ve become concerned with the possibility of having loose skin. I know it’s not always preventable and genetics play a factor. However, I know the faster weight loss occurs the more chance of loose skin. Any advice on how to pace the weight loss to minimize excess skin? Should I be adding in weight lifting to maybe put on some muscle? Any tips are welcome.

Hey, what's good you guys! I used to be a skinny guy, but struggled with weight gain as I got older. I never thought I'd get to the point of obesity, ever. Unfortunately it happened after several years of neglect towards my physical health, and I no longer could get away with eating as much junk food as I want.

At the start of 2021, I said fuck it. I signed up for the closest gym in my area, and I started going six days per week. It is a habit I built up and plan on following through it for the rest of the year. I also created and excel spreadsheet where I tracked my caloric intake every day, and weight measurements every week. I turned myself into a guinea pig in my own weight loss experiment, and tried different foods and diets to see what worked and what didn't. Now, I figured out my diet to the point where I'm losing weight consistently at a rate of 2-3 lbs per week.

I'm 5'10", and I passed the overweight threshold (which was 173 lbs) according to the BMI scale. Now I'm at the high side of normal weight, and plan on losing more until I get to 15% body fat. I put in so much work, and I wanted to lose weight so bad, my obsession made it difficult to even sleep at night. In January, I wondered what I would look like by June. Now, I wonder what I'll look like by December. Not to mention my self confidence skyrocketed like never before since I'm now in the best physical shape of my life.

For those who are starting or struggling, I feel for you. Whatever you guys need, ask me anything and I'll do my best to guide you through this process. Let my work and dedication serve as motivation for yours.

Fitting pants with loose skin from weight loss?

If this doesn't fit the sub it's cool to delete, I just think this is a good group for advice.

I've been on an off/on weight loss journey for the last ten years and recently made some pretty good progress. I started at (or above) 375 and am now down to like 285 or so and falling. I've been heavy since I was six years old, so I have a lot of loose skin.

The real issue here I have had is how to fit pants properly. The fashion advice subs have always recommended that pants should fit just below your belly button. Thing is ... with my shape, I have the choice of fitting the pants over my loose skin and remaining (though slowly shrinking) belly fat or just slightly (and we're talking half an inch or so) below that.

Both options kind of suck.

  • Above: Requires a much larger waist. We're talking like, 48 or so? Can't be worn too tight or it feels bizarre, like my internal organs are being restricted. Seriously uncomfortable when sitting down. Sort of requires suspenders because the exact spot where they sit is where my stomach starts to curve back towards my abdomen. I'm not a fan of suspenders in general though I suspect they may be in my future.
  • Below: Creates that lovely muffin top effect. A bit challenging to keep the pants up and also there's the whole plumbers crack thing. Can make finding the right leg length tricky..

I'm a very casual dresser. West coast + IT professional means that dressier options would look really odd in many contexts, plus I just don't like the aesthetic that much. I was always more alt than the typical MFA uniform, if that makes sense. Were it up to me, I'd likely be in jeans and a band t-shirt most of the time, but then even jeans don't fit properly without the aforementioned suspenders. And who the hell wants to wear suspenders with jeans?

It's just a very difficult engineering problem and I'm wondering if anyone else with my shape has a decent solution for it. Do I just need to learn to like different clothes? I'm married with two kids so it's not like I need to impress anyone, but I understand how this looks. Anyone have any ideas?

Looking for an accountability partner

Hello!

I am a 28 year old male from the Netherlands, and am looking for an accountability partner. I joined r/Loseit last year, and successfully implemented CICO for several months, yet have returned to old habits and regained a good deal (but not all!) of the fat that i managed to shed last winter. Above all, i struggle with my diet. I don't eat excessive amounts of food, but a small surplus of calories every day eventually adds up.

If you have also experienced trouble with your diet, or want to exchange thoughts our weight loss journeys, or other (mental) issues that you might be facing, hit me up! Barriers such as depression and anxiety seem to co-exist often with being overweight, and i am no exception.

p.s.: Yes, i posted a personal on Track-with-me-Thursday

Walking Pad / Treadmill Under Desk - Stories / Advice

Hey guys!

So I got super lucky and one of my neighbors was giving away a zip lift, so now my monitor and my computer and keyboard can lift up to create a standing desk. I just ordered an under desk walking pad/treadmill from Amazon which should get here in a week.

One of the reasons I’m doing this is because even though I’m working out, I am still pretty “sedentary” because of my job. Even after 40 to 50 minutes of working out, I’m barely cracking 4K steps. I’m hoping that by getting this treadmill I can get myself up to 10K steps a day and maybe help myself supercharge my weight loss. (Right now I’m averaging 1b a week close to my period and 2lbs away from it.)

I wanted to know if any of you guys use this, and have tips and tricks of how to use it for weight loss? Thanks! I work about 9 hours a day and most of my day is either conference calls, checking / responding to messages and emails, and Reddit. ;)
