Finally got a scale; and I've gained 15lbs :(

So i was expecting to have lost 15lbs. I'm down almost 2 inches on my waist since my last weight-in. But no. I've gained 15lbs. Not lost. Gained. 286 right now. Last weight in was 271. But my waist is down to 36 inches.

I do feel a bit disappointed. But I look better. I'm in better shape. Sometimes this is just what happens when you recomposition. Losing fat and gaining muscle at the same time can result in very littel weight fluctuation. Theoretically 1% of your weight is about the max amount of muscle you can put on per week. 1% of your weight is also the recommended safe rate of weight loss, and honestly below that you'll start to really feel sick most of the time anyways.

So I'll have to take it in stride. And also of course remember water weight in such a large person can make a huge difference too. Last time i was weighed i was hungover and dehydrated. Right now I'm sore from the gym (water retention) and very well hydrated.

Why am I making this post? To remind everyone that the number on the scale is the product of a large number of variables. And ultimately it's how you look and feel that really matters. Not the number on the scale at all.

This weight loss thing is not pleasant.

I (24f, 5'7 feet) have begun weight training and dance workouts (by watching YT videos by emkfit etc.)

I love the results!! I have reached between 99-100 kgs from 104-105 kgs. You can see the changes. My clothes fit better.

But my knees hurt from doing barbell squats. My track pants get loose and start to slip during dance workouts (thank goodness I do that by myself in my room).

I hate having to eat in deficit. My food is fine. It doesn't taste bad nor is my diet too restrictive. But I hate feeling guilty over having 2-3 biscuits here and there.

The only thing that keeps me going is the idea of being 60 kgs. That's when I'll eat however I want and workout to maintain my weight. I just can't wait to only have to maintain my weight instead of having to worry about losing it.

I really hope reaching the "goal weight" is worth all the hype.

Reasonable deficit, not feeling great

I'm a 24f, 5'2", 31inch waist, 134lbs looking to lose about 20lbs for a goal weight of 115lbs (+/-5lbs). My family has a history of breast cancer, and I would like to preemptively get control over my weight before it becomes an issue, and promotes cancer development.

I am mostly sedentary with an office job, although I would eventually like to begin exercising consistently. I downloaded MyFitnessPal a few days ago and have been eating at a 1lb/week weight loss deficit, about 1350 cals per day.

I haven't been feeling particularly hungry, but I do feel cranky and a little nauseous, but then I feel better after I've eaten something. I try to eat whole foods with lots of fiber and hit my protein goals.

Is this just my body getting used to being in a deficit, and should it go away in a few days? Is there a chance I'm exercising more than I give myself credit for and should actually be eating more? How long did you give yourself before trying something else?

Edit: added waist circumference

After 5 years of little to no activity and steadily accumulating mass, I decided it was time to make a change. Began in March 2021, and this week I hit my goal to lose 50 lbs! M/27/5’7 SW: 225 CW: 175 New GW: 165

When I was growing up, I played multiple sports year round so I was always able to eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight. My family did not have nightly dinner together so when I started making money my junior and senior year of high school I started a bad habit of eating out many times per week. This was the first time that I gained a lot of weight but a break up with my high school sweetheart motivated me to make a change and so I began lifting (almost zero cardio) a couple hours/day almost daily. During this initial weight loss I was the definition of a yo-yo dieter and would fluctuate between about 190 and 170 lbs because I would have a very strict diet for a month or so and then fall back into old habits.

This lasted until I began traveling for work about 5 years ago. I stopped having the time to hit the gym everyday and my motivation to eat clean went away with the exercise. From there I gained about 10lbs/year until late March this year when I stepped on the scale for the first time in years and saw 225 lbs staring back at me. Honestly, I expected worse and it probably was worse as I cut out soda and fast food cold turkey the first week of March a couple weeks prior to stepping on the scale. For the past 5 years, I never felt motivated to work out, it was a cycle of feeling depressed because I am not happy with my body or how i feel everyday and then when I could work out, not wanting to because I’m depressed and it seemed like too big of a hurdle.

This was me during that time bonus with my handsome dog

In March we got our /r/Pelotoncycle and decided it was time to change. There are 3 things to consider when beginning any new workout regimen: frequency, duration, and intensity - in that order. So in following that, the first thing I focused on was making working out a habit that I could make part of my schedule. I forced myself to ride for 20 mins/day everyday. Once I felt comfortable with that, I upped the duration. First I worked in 30 min classes, then 45 min, an hour. Then I started working in 90 min classes and realized I was capable of doing things I never thought I could do. Lastly, I focus on making sure at least 1-2 workouts/week are intense now that I have duration and frequency down.

Since I started riding in late March, I have rode over 1,400 miles!

Here is a chart of my weight loss and I want to point something out. When you look at my weight loss over the past year, it looks like a straight line down

but when I look at it over a shorter time period, it is a lot more bumpy so dont sweat the scale on a day-to-day basis! As far as diet, I practice intermittent fasting but I dont necessarily track it, I just work well by fasting and eating one large meal and maybe a low sugar snack after. I drink basically 0 calories.

My next goal is to lose another 10-15 lbs to try to get rid of the last bit of belly fat and then begin incorporating more strength training back in and maintain / recomp. Here is a “current” pic from 4th of July.

Low Calorie French Toast (USA)

Good morning!

I've discovered a french toast recipe recently using egg whites and low calorie bread that has been super satiating/filling for me. I have a HUGE sweet tooth so this also helps curve my cravings.

Ingredients: 1 Cup/216ish grams egg whites (I use Bob Evans or Great Value liquid egg whites usually), 2 tablespoons vanilla extract, cinnamon to your preference, 4 slices of low carb/low calorie bread (the brand I use is Sara Lee's low carb white bread and I do recommend using a white bread as so far this has absorbed the flavor the best IMO), Maple Grove's Sugar Free Syrup, ReddiWip Fat Free Whipped Cream - both 4 tablespoons.

The bread ends up being 180 calories (45 cals per slice), 12g protein & the egg whites usually end up at around 118 calories with roughly 23-24ish g of protein. I use 4 tbsp of the syrup and the whipped cream. You can add a cup of strawberries to this as well if you want for only an additional 50 calories to the meal.

Total macros: 318 (368 w strawberries) calories, 36g protein, 44g carbs.

There is supposedly a 0 calorie syrup by Walden Farms but I never see it at my Walmart, Smiths or Vans. I've experimented and added jell-o's sugar free/fat free Banana Creampie pudding mix to the egg white mixture as well and it came out awesome but it tastes good enough on it's own. You can add half a banana for about the same cals as strawberries too if you'd prefer.

Be sure to soak up as much egg whites as possible in the bread and if you have left over egg mixture, pour it over the bread slowly while it cooks so the bread can absorb as much egg white as possible.

Keep kicking ass on your weight loss journey!

edit: added the brands of liquid egg whites i use

lost 60 lbs but only one pants size

can anyone relate? I lost 60lbs, almost 65 lbs and at this point it's becoming more noticeable and my clothes are starting to look looser on me. I thought maybe buying some new clothes would make me feel better so you can actually see my weight loss better. like maybe im not seeing all the weight loss because im still in baggy clothes, you know?

so i got a few things. i went down 1 size in shirts for the most part. sometimes my chest is still big for the shirt and it turns into a crop top, but for the most part im a size smaller in tops which im happy about.

i guess the biggest surprise was that i only went down 1 pants size after losing 60 lbs. i went from a 16 to a 14 and the 14 fits perfectly now. I was expecting to be down at least 2 sizes so this was pretty surprising to me. ive started taking measurements recently but i guess i just found it pretty hard to swallow. ive been working my ass off for over a year and am only 1 size smaller. i could have just used a belt. didnt even need new clothes.

im 15 lbs from a healthy bmi weight range, but i know thats not gonna matter unless i can get my waist size down. my waist size is currently 40inches and i know i wont be healthy even when im in a healthy bmi range so i have to get that number down even if its means making a completely new goal. im sick of the scale though, so im just gonna focus on inches. i have progress pics in my profile.

Help starting weight loss 16M 5’11” (180.3 cm) SW/CW: 272 lbs (123.6kg); GW: 210 lbs(95.5kg);

Hello, I’ve finally decided to get advice for weight loss. I’ve been overweight since I was 6, but the increase was exponentially in the past few years. I’ve tried a dozen times over 8 years. I actually was in a good habit of losing weight, then COVID started, and the drive to continue losing weight died with lockdown, and the bored eating came back. I was about 238 at the start of lockdown, 222 in May(due to muscle atrophy), and now 272. I mainly sit at home the entire day, except for mowing the lawn, swimming twice a week, and going to the gym 2-3 times a week for 20 min. I used to walk a lot(during April 2020 I was walking 4.4-7 miles a day), but this year my “allergies”(got tested, came back negative, but my entire body still gets inflamed after 20 minutes) to grass skyrocketed (this and maybe other problems are likely caused by dust allergy, which is annoying to fix when you hoard old computers), so I stopped that. I would swim more, but it rains a lot, and my entire family has autoimmune diseases which make us feel like hell for a day when we go outside too long. For going to the gym, I’ve always been antisocial in public with people I know but aren’t friends with, but COVID made that worse, to the point where I actively avoid people, this becomes a problem when there’s only one large gym close to everyone. Most of my day is watching YouTube, playing games, browsing Reddit, and researching tech. The problem with everything I do is that I never finish, or even worse, never start anything, I have thousands of things left unfinished or not even started. (Case and point is get my drivers permit, my birthday was last fall, and I don’t even have my permit yet) My main hobby is working with arduinos and programming. The reason I finally decided to post here was yesterday my family went to a water park, and I was overweight for half of the rides. What advice do you have for me to lose weight?(sorry for tangents, but it’s a mainly 3 year story)Also, how can I keep motivated?
