My New Years resolution

Today is my birthday which means it is also New Year for me and it feels like a good time to set myself some goals so I'm putting them here for accountability. I have already started my weight loss journey and have lost 14lbs since 8th January it's been slow and steady and my first goal is to remember that slow and steady is good!

Second goal is to remember what this weight loss is for, of course I want to look better but, within the past 6 months I have lost an auntie to cancer and seen my dad hospitalised due to Covid (thankfully he is home now and on the mend) but both situations were exacerbated by obesity so I want to be healthier.

Third goal follows from the aim to be healthier and requires a bit more proactivity - I want to exercise everyday, this can be any exercise and doesn't need to be strenuous, I just need to move my body more.

I've got 57lbs to go until my goal weight and whilst I would like to have lost 22lbs by the end of May (I'd rather not be obese on holiday), I know that I won't have failed if I don't hit that target.

Weird fear after weight loss success

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone can relate to me on this. I've had a successful year and lost 60 lbs. I feel really proud of what I have accomplished for my health. It also is great to look in the mirror and visibly see all my hard work pay off. But I’ve realized lately that it also leads to some gnawing fear that I’ll wake up one day and all the pounds will just...be back. I know it’s irrational but I think it’s giving me some subconscious anxiety. Does anyone else worry that they’ll wake up and all their success will be suddenly diminished? Has anything helped assuage your fears? I’m sure it’ll get better with time as well.

Thanks everyone and best of luck on your journey!

Major SV and NSV on the same day... I could cry 😭

TL; DR at the bottom. Let’s get these stats out of the way:

24F / 5’9 / SW: 271 / GW: 160 / CW: 231

I know that compared to most posts here this might seem like a goal not worth mentioning, but today I hit exactly 40 pounds of weight loss. I was so happy when I stepped on the scale this morning; I’ve been working for months and months on getting my relationship with food under control, and now I’m actually living my life.

I’m waking up every day before work and walking at least a mile, I’m making healthy snacks like hard boiled eggs a staple, and I’m eating vegetables every day... I swore that I never liked Brussel Sprouts, now I realize that I just never knew how to cook them! (Did you know that their “leaves” make great veggie chips when roasted? Me neither until, like, 3 days ago!)

The NSV of the day? I got a job offer from a job that will allow me to move to an apartment I like, put myself through law school, and open myself up to a life I’ve wanted to live so badly for so long. I can finally quit the job that made me eat for comfort, I can finally quit the abusive bosses and insane quotas, it’s a relief I’ve never felt before. I have my health AND my life back. I almost cried on the phone when I got the call.

To have such a great weight milestone and then a professional milestone in the same day, I’m shocked. I’m relieved. I’m thankful.

If you made it this far, thank you. If you’re here for the TL;DR: I lost 40 pounds the same day I got an offer for my dream job.

new weight loss journey !!

hello people !!

I'm starting a weight loss journey and I wanna see if there is anybody here that is starting one now so we can find ways to motivate each other and hopefully reach our goals !!

now for a little background story I'm a 18 years old female weighing 78 kg at a 165 height, I've been trying to lose weight and break out of the bad habits that I accumulated throughout my life, back in 2019 I weighed around 89 kg and managed to lose 5 kg by restricting and I never gained them back, then in 2020 I lost 4 kg (I know these are little changes but that was all I could manage with depression lol) so I settled at 80 and now 2021 I tried the keto diet and lost 2 kg in a month (this is the longest time I maintained a diet hehe) and now I really wanna lose around 18 kg, but I just need some sort of motivation because doing things in a groups really motivates me, and I'm also confused about whether I should do keto or calorie counting ? I also speed walk on the treadmill nearly everyday for 3 to 4 km, and I'm active in genera.

and yeah that's it ! tell me your plans if you're starting a diet now ! good luck y'all

(sorry if I sound awkward this is my first time posting lol)

Why am I not seeing my progress?

I’m a 5”9 female, started at 218 at the beginning of January. I just hit 198 today and I thought getting back to the 100s would be exciting and a huge milestone but, I don’t think I look any different. Everything I dislike about my body looks like the exact same shape and size as 20lbs ago and it’s kind of bumming me out. I know my clothes feel different and stuff like that, but I just can’t understand why I’m not SEEING the changes. Some days I feel like I look even bigger than when I started. If that makes sense? How long did it take for you guys to truly notice your weight loss when you looked in the mirror? 30 lbs? 4 months? It’s not the end of the world but still frustrating. (Before you ask, I unfortunately have not taken any before pics to measure progress because I’m too uncomfortable with looking at my body, let alone having a picture saved on my phone.)

Diet question / weight loss / plateau

Hey my friends! I am currently on my weight loss journey. I’m 10 pounds away from my goal but I’ve hit a plateau. When I first began wanting to lose weight I noticed how uncomfortable it was just walking, my back became sore easily and I felt like I had less energy. I am a nurse and I am on my feet for three 12 hour shifts a week. I was eating too much unhealthy food (chips, soda) and my meals were pretty big, and I noticed my clothes were getting tighter and decided to weigh myself. Upon weighing myself I saw that I weighed 197 pounds which devastated me because I had previously weighed around 170 the last time I had checked... I’m not saying that that weight is horrible for other people but for me, I could feel my body struggling. So, I started controlling my portions more and making my own lunches for work instead of buying food (salad, fruit, granola bars, vegetables) and over the span of a year I lost around 40 pounds and I am now at 157 which to me, feels so awesome. I feel my body thanking me and feeling more energized. I have chronic illnesses so I think the extra weight was exacerbating those illnesses. Buuuuut my goal weight is around 145 and I cannot get there...

My question is what is a healthy calorie deficit if I’m doing around 1-1.5 hours of cardio and strength training 4 days a week? Just wondering if anyone had any advice.

Wanted to also make it clear that everyone, no matter the weight or size has something special and amazing to offer. I am just one story, I know there are many out there.

Has anyone noticed your skin actually looking better when you’re thinner?

24F. My starting weight (about a year and a half ago) was 170. I’m 5’4 and now down to 132!! My goal is 125.

I got to my highest weight because of a back injury where I was basically immobile, and before that I settled at around 140-145 with no exercise/no real attention to diet. Now I realized only just recently that I like working out, hence the lower weight.

To be honest I still don’t pay that much attention to diet, mostly just calories, getting enough protein to build muscle, and drinking plenty of water.

My main struggle is acne and large pores, but when I was heavier, like 160+, my skin was horrible. The tone was so uneven and I had pimples everywhere. Around 145, it was decent. And any time I’ve been under 140, especially now, it thrives.

I always hear the opposite about weight loss and acne and was just wondering if anyone else has had similar results? My only theory is stress related and being less worried about my looks.
