weight loss after antipsychotics:18 pounds lost! i’m having to get my work pants altered so they stop sagging!

im so proud of myself guys. in 2016 i was diagnosed with ocd, and put on a micro dose of antipsychotics/srri’s. i gained about 60ish pounds. fast forward to 2021, i’ve been in therapy for 6 years and learned a lot. i scored a job i love in the mental health field, and everything has fallen into place. i’ve realized now instead of fixing everyone else it’s time to reflect inward. since june of this year i’ve lost 18 pounds. i’m so proud!! before i started eating healthier, i was getting really shaky and dizzy frequently (despite eating more than enough). the dietician i saw suggested low carb because she thought the shakiness could be from insulin resistance. i haven’t worked out at all during the past four months so this progress is totally diet based. i ordered some work out clothes and got a gym membership, so i am excited to see how much that helps!!

the ladies at work have been so sweet and supportive. i asked the overnight lady if she had a safety pin. she asked what for, and i told her because my pants are sagging and too loose. she told me that she’ll alter them for free :) i thought it was so sweet!! i feel so glad to be able to finally take care of my health. my mom is prediabetic, has heart arrhythmias and a heart stent. alot of it is tied to her weight. i am so proud to finally take care of myself. i have too much to lose to not treat my body kindly. hopefully this is just the beginning!!

Lost 10 lbs in 1 week

Long time lurker here, I 35F 5'7" started my weight loss journey at the beginning of August. Initially I was only doing body weight exercises at the house and making healthier choices. Eventually I listened to all of the advice in this sub and downloaded the Lose It app and started CICO. I didn't get a scale until the end of August because I was getting discouraged and wasn't seeing much progress.

Because of this I wasn't sure what my starting wight was and just used my last weigh in at the Dr. as my weight for the lose it app. Originally thought I was 295 and weighed in at 277 which changed my daily calorie limit from 2400 to 2100.

Weight loss has been pretty steadily 1 lb a week. I wanted to lose slowly to make sure I am making a sustainable change and I had worries about losing muscle mass and trying to minimize loose skin. A couple of weeks ago my workplace began a walking competition to see who could get the most steps so I traded in body weight exercises for walking. Between 9/16 - 9/23 I went from 276 to 266. Not sure if this is water weight that is see discussed sometimes here or if I am losing muscle mass. Is there a way to know? Should I increase my calorie limit or wait to see if it stabilizes? Is this normal am I worrying too much?

Any advice is appreciated!

Lost 85lbs, feel emotionally worse than I ever have in my life. Anyone else? Tips for fighting the urge to just start eating everything I see so I might feel better?

40F, down 85lbs, sitting now at the top of normal weight for my height. Weight loss was slow and consistent, about 18 months, mostly through CICO.

I didn’t have high expectations when I started the journey, wasn’t even actually focused on weight loss, and certainly wasn’t expecting some sort of emotional high from losing weight. As much as I wasn’t seeking “happiness” from losing weight, there is nothing that prepared me from feeling this poorly either.

I feel…awful. Crazy emotions, and none of them are good. Have been medically checked and levels of everything under the sun are apparently normal.

All I want to do is gain back the weight so I feel normal again, but of course I don’t actually want to gain the weight so I’m fighting every day to try and remember the importance of the physical health.

Please. Someone tell me they’ve experienced something similar? Suggestions?

100lb weight loss in ~1 year

Hi everyone, been lurking for the last year or so but thought I’d share my progress and methods. I’m a 22 year old male, I’ve been overweight my entire life but I’ve gone up and down quite a bit throughout high school. Since I was about 16 I was steadily gaining until I reached about 270lbs at 5’9”. On my 21st birthday I decided to make the change. I started with Keto for about 2 months. In this time I lost 20ish pounds but had terrible side effects. After quitting keto I immediately began counting my daily calories and shooting to eat 1500 daily. I also started going on daily walks (which have now turned to runs).

Nowadays I’m around 170lbs and exercise daily. Exercise is something I look forward to now. I shoot for about 1900 calories a day so I am still slowly losing. End goal is 165- but I don’t mind taking a while to get there.

It’s been a great year, I’m enjoying everything in life more. If you’re thinking about starting just start. I personally would recommend just starting with the calorie deficit, as Keto did not work well for me. But different methods work for different people.

Can I get tips from hypoglycemics?

I've lost quite a bit of weight developed hypoglycemia and took a break. I exercised more moderately and ate at my maintenance calories. My hypoglycemia went away, but now that I'm losing again it's returned to no one, including doctor's surprise.

My issue is that I can't seem to eat the amount of calories I need to lose a lb a week without develop hypoglycemia, which then leads to requiring more food, and I end up gaining. It turns into cycle. I've seen a dietitian, and I eat the types of things I am told. But I still up in this cycle, especially if I exercise.

So, I'm seeking the advice of my fellow hypoglycemics as to what has helped them with weight loss.

Stuck just above 200 lbs for 2 months now, doing everything right but no progress in weight loss

31M 5'9"

Over 9 months, from 11.1.20 to 8.1.21, I lost over 70 lbs going from 275 lbs/31% BF to 202 lbs/20% BF.

I did this by dropping my avg daily calorie intake to 1500 (didn't track macros) and also since Feb, doing yoga, cardio via elliptical & weight lifting twice a week for each, totalling about ~3 hours of physical activity every week. I measure my body monthly and have also been dropping inches all over during the 9 months. I was experiencing an avg of 7-8 lbs of weight loss a month up until August.

Since 8.1 though, my weight has stalled around ~202. My only reprieve was a couple weeks ago where I was hit by a case of the water shits like someone turned a faucet on and the next day hit 199.8 lbs, but back to ~202 lbs as of today. A month ago I increased my calorie intake to 1700.

  1. I know my calories are correct because I track everything I eat/drink, and I'll have a not-crazy cheat day 1-2 times a month
  2. Been doing IF daily, ~16:8
  3. I started taking a serving of creatine after each weightlifting session last month, but as long as I'm in a deficit, any water retention shouldn't be that big of a deal right?
  4. According to TDEE calcs, I should be burning an avg of 2600 kcal a day (and even if my TDEE went down because I've been in a deficit, no way it went so low that I wouldn't be losing weight at my calorie intake)

By my math and knowing the facts, I should be dropping weight, yet I'm stuck around ~202.

So what do you think is going?

50lbs weight loss in 7 months and been maintaining since

DISCLAIMER: I'm no doctor, but I'm just someone who wants to share his experience. I am a male, was 235lbs, 176cm, 23% body fat in the start of 2021 and have somewhat been struggling with losing the weight. I was super uneducated on the concept of weight loss and practically tried all types of fad diets under the sun. I also had a family history of poor liver health and heart related issues (I didn't have any of those, but still alarming as hell). I was practically up sh*t's creek until I found Greg Doucette and MPMD YouTube channel. They really educated me on how weight loss is a slow process and that I have been thinking of it all wrong in the past. Especially Coach Greg, he really taught (and yelled) a lot about CICO, which gave me a clearer path for me to walk on my weight loss journey. Not only that, he taught me to love myself no matter what, which motivated me a ton. I started tracking my calories and took weight lifting and cardio training seriously (I worked out a little before. super half ass). By July 2021, I successfully got down to 185lbs, 14-15% body fat, and have learned to maintain it since. Quarantine may have been hard for people to exercise in a gym, but in the beginning, I only used a few resistance bands to do my workouts. I think as long as you eat in a calorie deficit (don't avoid certain foods, just being mindful of portions depending on calories) and also moving your body, you'll achieve your weight loss goal. As for what I ate, I ate a lot of veggie and a lot of protein and some carbs. A secret for me to stick to my diet (some may be shocked af): Seasoning and diet coke lol. But hey, those are hella low calories products and I did succeed. 🤷‍♂️

p.s: I would've posted a picture of my before and after progress photo, because I am pretty proud of what I achieved with body recomping but I don't think I can post pic 😅

ONE MORE THING, NEVER BE DISCOURAGED. 😁
