I Went From 220 lbs to 169 lbs With Pokemon GO

Ok guys, so I was struggling like crazy: to share my story here or not. Probably deep, like, really deep inside of me, there is still that anxious guy that is struggling about his self-confidence. Even though I’m so proud about all my weight loss journey. Which is kinda unexpected, I can say. So, here I am, finally not afraid to talk about my weight loss struggles, personal tragedies and, finally, an unexpected yet crazy weight loss results. In the YouTube video! Still not sure if I can post this here, but I’ll give it a try. Maybe I'll inspire some of you to lose weight in a less traditional ways.

Anyways, here is the video for those who are interested in my story: https://youtu.be/3q4P37m9YH0?list=PLP-miU2Hwzp5oCN405ADx3ZLpFSSoDYI2

Start of the journey and it feels scary. 22, CW: 248lbs

So i’ve just weighed myself this morning and i’ve ballooned all the way up to 248 pounds. Fuck me. It was scary to see that number. Heaviest i have been all my life. I’ve been at the start of a weight loss journey so many times now and i feel a sense of hopelessness that i will never reach the weight I would like to be. However I do feel much determined this time round and I feel like i can learn from my mistakes.

Its funny because around this time last year, i stared a weight-loss journey and come around April-May, i hit a weight of 218lbs and i was super ecstatic. But then throughout the summer I neglected working out and went back to bad eating habits and now here we are.

I know what i have to do. I’ll be doing CICO and try my best to work out 4-5 times a week. I think this time around however I’ll do my best to write down my journey day by day and look at the progression i’ve made. I know inevitably, i will slip up once or twice but I don’t want to end up giving up on my journey for 3 months and then having to start over again.

I feel cautiously optimistic, scared and excited at the same time. But it really is in my hands at the end of the day and it’s all up to me.

One question: I’m aiming to hit a weight of 210 pounds by late Feb/ early March. Is that realistic?

Thanks guys and LETS GO!!!

Fell off the bandwagon during grief. I'm not sure how to get back on.

I [30F/SW:200/CW:197/GW:140] just started my journey and have a long way to go by the stats look of things. My fiance recently lost his mother suddenly and when we traveled to his family there was mainly bar food (think deep fried American food). I gained some of the weight back that I had lost and as an emotional eater I don't know how to cope with the loss and weight loss at the same time. HAE had to deal with grief and weight loss and what things worked for you to get through it?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Tuesday, 16 November 2021? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel *awesome* and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.

Temperature change?

Hello there fellow weight losers! I have a question, and request a bit of advice.

Over the course of 2021, I went from 250 to 178 pounds, my weight loss only started to really kick off after the winter ended (when I could go on jogs and stuff).

So, winter has rolled around again, an HOLY CRAP IT IS COLD. I was always the dude who'd wear shorts in the winter, and would almost never wear my coat. Now when I'm walking around with my coat on, I am still dying.

Is this a normal side effect of losing weight? Cause I haven't lost too much, I didn't think it would affect me this much. I hope this is normal, and not some underlying issue.

If this has happened to anyone else, how do you stay warm? I'm wearing a thick coat and hood, mask, gator, boots, and all that good stuff, and I'm still shivering constantly, any advice? Thanks!

I am not losing anymore!

I have been losing weight since around December 2019ish, so around two years. My starting weight was 220ish and I am now at 133. I am 5'3/5'4 female and 22 years old. I am currently very stressed out because I have not lost weight since about July! I know I am doing everything right...I mean, I lost 80 pounds. I measure my food, and I have been consistently exercising for the past three weeks. I eat 1,200 calories every day. There were a few months where I developed really bad habits (500-800 calories a day) but I stopped losing weight doing even that. I know weight loss is basically calories in versus calories out, so I am so confused.

The only thing that comes to mind is because I allow myself cheat days, but I was averaging out the week to make sure that I do not go above 1200 calories a day on average. For the past month, I have been eating 1,200 calories a day and exercising at least an hour a day. The only time I am 'bad' is on Sunday, but I have three meals and don't really snack on that day. Still, it makes my weight go up so much, even though I am just having around 2,000 calories. It takes me like the whole week to lose that again.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to give up the day of enjoyment, but I don't know what else I could be doing wrong. I feel so unmotivated and depressed about this. It makes me want to revert to bad habits, like restricting. Does anyone have any tips of something I can try differently? I just don't know what is happening. I get a three-week plateau, but a three-month one?
