I need to lose 20lbs and I feel really overwhelmed. Any advice?

Food is such a crutch for me and I hate feeling hungry so I snack. I have severe mental health problems so prepping food is a huge task but it feels like the only way to achieve a calorie deficit. Feel really overwhelmed and just don’t know where to start.

Tracking daily calories feels too difficult as if I can’t do basic tasks like showering daily how can I consistently do the calorie counting 😖

Don’t want share height and weight as if feels too personal, but based on my history a 20lb weight loss would make my body not hurt or feel uncomfortable. I also want to gain more confidence and just feel better.

I’m thinking that volume eating might be the way to go, but yeah meal prep is so hard and I just don’t know how to get around that big hurdle

The junk food is not going anywhere: you don't HAVE to eat it.

I've been struggling a lot with junk cravings, which is the reason why it took me 3 entire years to go from 73 to 57kg - I simply couldn't resist Mcdonald's and cake whenever it was offered by my family. I've slightly changed my diet now by forcing myself to have stuff I wouldn't have before (avocado, chicken breast, oranges... Healthy things that I'd dismiss to eat high-cal stuff on low quantity for weight loss.), and it's much easier now, I'm still losing, faster.

But, I also thought long and hard about why I was addicted to junk food. And I think that in a way, seeing so much junk food advertised all the time (especially LiMitEd EdiTion) makes it feel like an obligation. You're at a party, someone brings pizza, the occasion just makes you feel forced to have it even though you didn't want it in the first place. You pass by a bakery and see your favorite tart; quick, you rush to buy a slice.

And it's been an extreme relief for me to realize that there is no rush. The junk food you like so much has been around for 50 years or more, and it's not going anywhere. Your comforting chocolate bars or muffins will always be available when you and your body are ready to have them, but it's not right now. Don't fall for the trap of super fit influencers who tell you to "just have those cheat meals if you crave them, as long as the rest of your diet is stable" - no, I'd say that only applies to people who have reached their main goals, and are otherwise very strict about their healthy/sporty lifestyle. Eating low cal in general and having junk food whenever you crave it sounds like a dream, but it's a dream that has to wait. These people had to go through a long period of strict low cal and getting used to exercising before they could allow themselves junk (and even then, they don't go overboard, there's no such thing as "as many cheat meals as I want" without becoming unhealthy).

I personally have 5 or 6 more kilos to go! And it works well to tell myself that until then, I'm just not ready for that slice of cake, but it's okay, it's waiting for me. So I don't wanna jump on every craving I have anymore, and it's liberating.

I've been struggling and feeling pretty stagnant with weight loss recently. I've kept going up and down the same 3-4ish pounds since March. I've been following a high rep calisthenic program for the past eight weeks and neglecting my usual gym routine to have the energy for it. But, at the same time, I have been seeing a lot more muscle definition in the mirror, pretty much all over. Not just my legs, which were the main focus of the program.

I reached my one month check-in.

Turns out.

Biceps: The same
Waist: Down 1.5"
Chest: Down 1"
Thighs: Down .5" each
Hip/butt: Up .5"

I was like "Damn, okay, a little recomposition going on." Really unexpected at this point, because I've been working out for years and am already fairly muscular.

Then, I went to the gym and did a body scan. They have one of those big professional ones where it sends the electronic waves through you and is supposed to be really accurate.

ALLEGEDLY (I literally do not believe this is accurate), over the past two months (did last scan end of April), I lost 5.9 kg of fat (approx 13 pounds) while overall losing only 2 pounds in weight.

Which means, ALLEGEDLY, I've put on 11 pounds of muscle over the past 2 months. I used to trust the machine, but I just don't think that's possible in the time frame, as I don't take anything except vitamins. (fish oil, vitamin D, B6, B12, A, C, calcium, zinc, magnesium, probiotics)

Also, allegedly, I'm at 22% body fat down from nearly 27%.

I don't trust the accuracy of the machine as everything I've read says 3 pounds per month is like top tier in muscle growth, but it's still a major indicator that I have been recompositioning in the right direction.

Anyway, it's really exciting that it's not just in my head. It's really exciting that I've been able to match the insane progressions in my program as well. I've done the first few weeks of this program several times before, and would have to break up sets into smaller sets and spread them through the day to accomplish them, but I'm actually able to do the program as prescribed this time and escalate each week as indicated.

Does this sound right or am I imagining it?

5'5
Weight lost - 55lbs
Start weight 185LBS
Current weight 130lbs
Goal weight - 110-120lbs

I have lost this weight over the period of about 2 years, which I know is a long slow time but due to chronic ill health I am unable to exercise much and have done this through a calorie deficit and clean healthy eating. I'm currently the happiest ive been in YEARS in my body. I hit a major plateau but have just recently started losing some lbs slowly again. Slow is fine with me btw, I dont want to speed up. I'm currently what I would call "skinny fat". As in, my belly is my main issue and there is a certain amount of fat covering certain areas, but I do not look overweight to other people. I'm just a bit jiggly but I can see my skinny shape coming through.

My question though.........when I do lose a few pounds, I notice that my body becomes much more "wobbly" looking temporarily and it almost looks as though my body is melting.....things look very jiggly and ugly but then all of a sudden after a couple of weeks I start to look more firm. So it's almost as though the lbs come off, the fat left behind has a hissy fit and goes melty looking, my body looks utter sh*t for a little while but then it catches up with the weight loss and THEN I notice it visually. Is it my skin slowly tightening or is it the fat actually looking more wobbly due to the lbs lost?

Does this even make sense? Is it an actual thing or am I imagining it?

my weight loss was pointed out despite me being in a plateau for over a month

i’m almost 30lbs down but i’ve been in a plateau since the beginning of may. i’ve been sticking to my deficit, but i still keep fluctuating between 3-5lbs. i’ve been feeling really discouraged because i’ve been making no progress. i’ve seen my family multiple times since my plateau started and they haven’t said anything about my weight loss. except yesterday, one family member pointed it out to me and was asking what i’ve been doing to lose weight. it’s just strange because i haven’t lost any weight within the last month, but i’ve seen them several times this month. either way, it made me feel better about my plateau. i’m hoping i can break it soon! i also overate a tiny bit yesterday because of father’s day, but i still woke up 1.5lbs lighter than i was yesterday morning when i woke up?? it’s not a new number on the scale yet (my weight keeps going up 3-5lbs and then back down and back up) but hopefully i can finally break this cycle within the next few days! i’m currently 6lbs away from the first weight loss goal i set for myself since starting this journey and it’s almost torturous being this close, but not being able to get any closer. but after that interaction yesterday, im feeling determined to break my plateau!

Ashwagandha Dosage for Weight Loss?

I've read up on about 3 different studies each noticing a comparative increase in test hormones in the ranges of around 12-18%. Since I am, frankly, morbidly obese, I figure that could help with weight loss combined with my gym split and cardio, by helping to counteract the negative effects of fat tissue suppressing my natural test production.

Only problem here is some studies note the change with 500mg, while others are at 5g(5000mg). Was wondering if anybody has used Ashwagandha root and had success at the middle mark of the two, as the supplement I found is about 1950mg per serving, and I don't have the money to stock up on bottles at 5g a day.

Doctor prescribed 1000 calorie/day plan

I've unsuccessfully been trying to lose weight for six months now. I (26F) am currently 5'1" and 166 lbs, and started the year at 170. At the beginning of the year, I completed the 75 Hard Challenge, working out twice a day and following a strict 1700-1800 calorie meal plan, with counting macros to ensure I'm getting enough protein. I completed the challenge, only losing two pounds, and maybe a quarter of an inch off my measurements. I was completely sedentary before, so I really thought regular weightlifting and tracking my calories would be a sustainable way to lose weight.

I explained my frustrations with my doctor, and she referred me to an Endocrinologist that specializes in weight loss. I waited two months to have this appt. I hoped we would talk about hormones or diet or exercise, but he immediately prescribed me Topamax and increased my Wellbutrin prescription. He then said he recommends I eat 1000 calories a day. I weightlift regularly and get 10k steps a day. I'm very worried by eating 1000 calories a day, I won't have enough energy to continue weightlifting. Additionally, I struggled with disordered eating tendencies in high school, and I worked really hard to change my outlook on food. He asked me what app I was tracking my calories on, which I use myFitnessPal, and he said, "Choose a different one because MFP only goes down to 1,200 calories." I think there's a limit on calories there because anything lower than that is dangerous.

Anyone else experience this? 1000 calories/day can't be sustainable by any means and is obviously meant for quick results. What am I supposed to do after I lose the weight? Everything in me is telling me no one should eat a 1000 calorie diet.
