Had to set a new weight loss goal; and kick-up my fitness goals!

I found this sub back in May, when I first started my fitness/health journey. I've tried SO many times in the past to lose weight, and get in shape, but have always failed. This time, things have been different, and you lovely ladies have been so motivational and such an inspiration. It has helped me understand how to do this and how to achieve my goals.

At my max, and in the picture on the left, I weighed 222lb. That dress was too tight, but the best I could do. In May of this year, I was hovering around 197lb (unable to break through my plateau) and had a 38 inch waist with 39% body fat. Not wanting to gain anymore, I kicked things up a notch and with the help of a personal trainer, I now come in at 157, a number I have NEVER seen in my adult life. Not only that, I have toned up, increased my strength, reduced my body fat by 12%, lost 10 inches around my waist, more in other areas, have more energy, and lead a generally more healthy life. The picture on the right, was me at a holiday party this past weekend where I had to PIN myself in the dress to make it look not super baggy (I WILL go shopping for next year).

I am pretty happy with my weight now, and will be focusing on toning, strengthening, and reducing my body fat further. NSV include doing a proper push up (I am SO close!), a pull up, and getting my back squat to 120 (currently at 105! was barely able to squat the bar when I started). Oh, I also am training for a 15k.

Regarding how I lost the weight: when I started, I was tracking all my calories and macros with MFP. I switch it up but I started with lowering carbs, increasing fat and protein (not going full keto though), and have recently increased carbs back to 120-150g/day and lowered fats. I work with my trainer 3 days a week doing strength and HIIT, do cardio 4 days a week, walk ~10,000-15,000 steps a day, and do yoga when possible.

My entire outlook on health has changed and I could not be happier. I actually look forward to working out now!

Does anyone else lose weight in chunks?

I started at 230 in August, and the first 15 or so lbs came off very quickly (large portion of that being water weight, I imagine). I hit a wall at around 210lbs, where it seemed like my weight loss grinded to a halt. I don't count calories, but I knew for a fact that I was eating well below my maintenance (1 chipotle burrito bowl in a day, for example) so I had to be losing weight. Anyways, I weighed myself two days ago and saw that I had gone down to 204lbs. Same story today. I am visibly leaner than I was at 210, so I know it couldn't just be water weight. Does anyone else lose weight in a similar fashion? It's good to see progress, yet very discouraging since the results take a while to show up.

It’s time for a change. Any tips to help in beginning the weight loss journey for the first time?

Hi everyone! I had an eye opening moment at the doctor’s office. I gained a lot of weight since I went last. I’m a 5’7” female, and have always been in the 125-130 weight range. I don’t keep a scale at home, because I used to get a little too obsessive about weight.

Last week, I went to the doctor’s office, and I knew I had gained some weight. I don’t feel healthy, and I know I need to work out more and cut back on the amount that I’m eating. However, I was NOT expecting to be 145 lbs. I was also not expecting my doctor to mention my weight gain to me.

Honestly, it sent me in a little spiral of sadness. I’ve never had to actually lose weight before, and I don’t even really know where to start. I used to just have good eating habits, but I feel like an injury & a long term relationship (though he is the best in many ways, he doesn’t like to exercise) have changed my habits for the worse.

Do you guys have any tips for re-forming my healthier habits, and losing around 10-15 lbs? What is a reasonable time frame for losing this weight?

Can you help me end my binge eating yoyo diet lifestyle and maintain 165 for good?

My weight loss journey started in 2011, and it's been a TOTAL roller coaster. Just a small note however, in 2011 I was obese and not physically active. My lean body mass was very low- i'm extremely active and fit now so it's not as bad as it looks, a reasonable amount of yoyo regain is lean mass:

I need your help. This is going to be a short post. I'd love to share my life story, and all the lessons i've learned, but maybe I should wait and do that when i've actually accomplished my goal.

I want your help with getting some ideas on how I can lock in the success i've made, and when I finish the diet I am on right now- convert this into the greatest weight maintenance success story ever rather than an epic case of yo-yo dieting and regaining lost weight.

I've already beat my binge eating problem- i've become an incredible athlete- i've conquered a crazy stressful maniacal startup career- now I just need to finish dieting and maintain my weight. Let me see what I can give for back story right now- I started at 198 pounds, wasn't fit, wasn't active. Found 4 hour body, lost a bunch of weight, regained it. Lost a bunch of weight, regained it. Found stronglifts, got strong, lost a bunch of weight, regained it. Got engaged, lost a bunch of weight, got married, honeymooned, regained it. Found a new life, lost a bunch of weight, found trail running, kept most of the weight off. I'm now a long distance runner training for my first ultra marathon, and have completed my first marathon. I continue to do lots of weight training- and have basically entirely eradicated my binge eating disorder that led to my obesity. I'm ready to finish this last cut and get to my goal and stay there forever.

What ideas do you have? What questions do you have? I am desperate to succeed. I am turning 30 next year and my biggest goal to accomplish before I turn 30 is to maintain 165 pounds.

Edit: wanted to add a bit more color:

I plan to run ultra marathons as long a I can in life- it's the greatest passion i've found in life in my 29 years. I need to lose this last 15 pounds for running efficiency and speed.

Also, I'm turning 30 soon and i've been structuring my life around a complete turnaround by 30 since I was around 28. So far i've accomplished many milestones from learning to trail run, completing my first mountain race, completing my first marathon, and learning to train injury free. The last few goals before 30 are to run an ultra marathon, maintain 165 pounds, and to complete a muscle up and 5 hand stand pushups.

I started at 198, am currently 179m and the lowest i've ever been was 165.

Help for sustainable weight loss

hi guys!! this is my first time posting in this sub and i’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but i figured its worth a shot. i’m using mobile right now so apologies for any formatting errors.

I’m a university student and i’m trying to lose around 10-20 pounds in a sustainable way that can be sustained over a long period of time. My schedule is usually pretty busy between school and work but i would have time to go to the gym maybe once a week. Meal prepping is definitely something I could also fit into my schedule. I’m pretty unfamiliar with gym routines as in the past I have only done sports like swimming and yoga.

I was just wondering what dieting/exercise you guys recommend for something like this. Thank you all for your help!!

Here’s my stats:

Gender: Female Age: 20 Height: 5’6 Current Weight: 135 Goal Weight: 120

I can't get motivated and stay motivated

I (26m 360 lbs) can't seem to stay motivated with my weight loss for more than a few weeks at a time, and fall back into old habits. Seeing progress pics and hearing stories is cool and everything, but that doesn't mo me. I follow Instagram and YouTube fitness channels, and I have a firm grasp on how weight is managed in the body. It just seems like I don't have a clear goal, and being skinny isn't enough.

I've always been a big guy, becoming fat early on. I don't know what it feels like to be skinny. I've lost a lot of weight, and have been able to keep it off. Last spring I was up around 400 lbs. I've been able to lose weight and keep it off, but it only lasts like 2 weeks at a time before I fall off the wagon and start back into the easy foods. The same goes for the gym too.

I'm a student, so my schedule is very irregular and stressful. I enjoy the stress, mostly because I get depressed easily if I'm too bored for an extended period, longer than the weekend usually. This makes eating properly and going to the gym regularly a challenge. Now that I'm on my winter break, I want to get into a regular rhythm and try to avoid boredom.

Tldr: what are some motivators that aren't typical?
