Fat Man begone

Stats: 27 Male 510 SW: 263 CW: 175 GW : undetermined

I have shared my story a million and five times. So I will give the breakdown. Four years ago I looked like this before

I was so disgusted with how far I let my self go. I tried so many different diets and routines but nothing worked. I was disappointed depressed and debated just giving up. This was until these influences...

  1. Obese to beast. His videos and motivation was the spring board to my journey.
  2. The Hodge Twins. These guys are fucking hilarious. Watch their advice and eating videos. Complete game changers.
  3. Eliot Hulse. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I found his words and thoughts to be eye opening. I appreciate everyone of his videos.

  4. And finally CT Fletcher. If I can say one thing to anyone on their journey. Watch this man!! Probably the most inspiring and essential aspect to my weight loss. God I was I could meet him and shake his hand

If I can say one thing to everyone who reads this. Please don’t give up. When the progress really hits it’s so worth it. Also don’t ever pass up an opportunity to help someone who is on their own weight loss journey.

And finally my after :) after

I still got a ways to go but I’m gonna get there. I hope you all do as well.

A little graph I made from my weight loss/gain notebooks. This shows my weight from 17-30, with large swings up and down, mostly in relation to my addiction to drugs. Don't do drugs kids!

https://i.imgur.com/o7bPVWG.png

Here's the graph. Some context

I actually started out college gaining a lot of weight in muscle. That little bump right there was mostly muscle. But then I got a knee injury, and the eating habits I gained for muscle training didn't go away, but the training itself did. I gained a ton of weight. I was drinking a lot, loosing friends, and I felt like I was loosing any and all semblance of my previous self. I went from a 'cool' kid in my first year of college to an asshole, out of control slob by my last year. It was the worst time in my life. I graduated, got a job at an office, and at that office there were guys who partied even harder than what I did in college. Specifically, cocaine. I started doing coke a lot, and got addicted basically right away. I dropped weight a ton. 22 years old, I dropped 150 pounds. I felt on top of the world from 22-23, even though I was a drug addict, I was earning money and finally had lost my weight. Unfortunately my coke addiction turned worse and worse and I just fell apart. I went from normal weight to 137 pounds. Ages 22-25... that was just a blur. I got fired from my job, but luckily got another one from my uncle which didn't pay as much but was easier. I was clubbing a lot (dancing burns a lot of calories...) and barely eating anything if I didn't have to. I would say I was burning maybe 500-1,000 dollars a week on cocaine. All of my extra money after rent and bills went to it.

At 25, my uncle found out about my cocaine addiction, and then everyone found out. I knew before then I had to go to rehab, but I never really truly wanted to go until my family forced me to realize I was a fucking mess. I went at 25, and almost right away, I began over eating. I did get clean from coke, I haven't touched it since. But holy shit, I remember right when I got clean, I started eating like a crazy person. I gained so much weight. I was happy I was clean, but the weight gain was... disconcerting. I would not have some magic drug addiction to come save me from this. I kept thinking that I was likely going to be fat for life, and that this was just how I was. Lots of people got fat in their late 20s, I was no exception, right?

Well I decided to turn myself around and start eating healthier. I joined a gym, although I'm not using it as much as I should, but the eating healthier has been enough. I am slowly but surely losing weight, I have gone from 280 to 208 in two years. I have literally never been happier in my life. My real trick is to just restrain myself to only eating at certain times. I eat from 9am-11am, as much as I want until I am full, then again from 6pm-8pm.

How did I get here?

Hi everyone. I am so happy to have found this community as I begin my real fitness journey. I’ve had a fucked up relationship with food/weight my entire life (I’m sure many can relate). My weight has fluctuated over the years reaching a high of 145 at 19 (I’m 27 now). I worked hard to lose the weight, and was then at an all time low of 114 at 25 (this is also the time when I went vegan for a year and literally lost 10 pounds in my first week).

2 years ago I realized the vegan lifestyle wasn’t sustainable for me long term. At this time I also got back with my long time boyfriend (we’re engaged now...woo!) and slowly felt myself letting go of many of the health priorities I had as a strict vegan.

I also began teaching full time and used food and alcohol to “de-stress” after a long day. He is also somewhat of a junk food enabler, and we jointly started to care less about health and fitness.

Rewind to last summer I moved from philly to silver spring, Maryland to take a Montessori certification course that took all summer. I was renting out a room in someone’s basement and literally did not have access to a kitchen. I got subway everyday and just felt myself turning into an absolute blob.

I weighed myself at the end of the summer and I was about 139. “Fuck...” I thought. “Oh well I’ll just get healthy now that I’m back at home” I decided.

Well...that didn’t work. While we’ve had weeks of “health kicks” we still got pizza way more than we should and I still drank and snacked as a means of destressing all year. While it was a great year teaching the weight situation got worse. I recently weighed myself and I am officially at my highest ever weight at 151. This is overweight for my height and I feel like an absolute shit.

After reading stories on lose it and getting more inspired to stick to the CICO lifestyle I am getting my shit together. I’m trying to eat about 1,200 calories a day as well as trying to exercise at least 30 minutes a day. Wish me luck!! I will continue to look on the subreddit for inspiration. I am using the loseit app and it’s been fantastic so far. To anyone who has read all of this...thank you for your time and I wish you well on your personal weight loss journey as well ☺️

People Change.

Hello,

This post is mainly about the general reception post weight loss from people. Over the past ten months I have managed to lose around 90lbs, which is a huge achievement and something I never thought I would be able to do when I first set out with the goal of losing weight. Side Note: I do not call it losing weight anymore because as I am reaching my goal it has become increasingly harder which makes me think "I should be losing weight", instead I call it training.

When I was bigger it almost seemed as if I was wearing an invisibility cloak, like the rest of society did not really notice me. Once I left school, they [My friends] didn't interact with me or anything like that anymore. Once I started going to the gym, a lot of them tried re-entering my life, especially the female ones who couldn't care who I was a few years prior to this.

I just find it weird how weight-loss can totally change another persons perception of you and it absolutely horrific to see. With this being said, if anybody is struggling with weight-loss or needs that extra motivation then please message me! If you're just starting out then message me too as I know my way around a good plate of food haha!

Thank you all on here for being so kind and generous, I would not be here if it was not for you guys!

What about diet coke?

So it's been almost 2 months since I started dieting and exercising regularly. I'm talking 3 meals per day at exact hours, all home cooked, no bread and minimum amounts of sugar and a daily 10-12 km speedwalk, and I've got the progress to show for it, I've lost almost 10 kg so far with 25 more to go until I reach my goal.

However, lately I've been satisfying my cravings with an occasional can of diet coke, the black kind that screams "ZERO SUGAR" in your face(never more than one per day and usually at the end of my exercise session). Now, I know the can claims to have only 1-2 calories and no sugar whatsoever, but hey, coke is coke, the only truly healthy thing you can do with it is drop it all together. However, I wanted to ask you guys, from a purely dietary point of view, should I trust what it says or is it messing with my weight loss program?

Losing friends

Can we talk about this a little? I’ve seen on this sub how common it can be to lose a good friend once you start losing weight. I didn’t think it could happen to me, but it just did. And it sucks.

My BFF was always the one with the amazing body. I was just the fat BFF with the pretty face. Well, I’ve lost 85 lbs and my BFF. We have kids the same age and we don’t even hang out for the kids sake. That’s probably what hurts the most. I feel so bad for the kids.

She regularly works out and I didn’t. For years I had asked her if we could work out together so she could help me with a routine and it never happened. She always had some excuse as to why we couldn’t go to the same gym, or why she didn’t want to join a class with me. Then I started getting serious about what I was eating and she kept criticizing me that I wasn’t eating enough. Looking back at it, I think she just wanted me to stay the fat friend. When I lost about 50 lbs everyone, but her acknowledged I had lost weight. I didn’t care if she didn’t acknowledge it, thought it was just strange that she didn’t mention one word when it was extremely noticeable. But again, her approval wasn’t necessary so I just kept going without her support. Then when I had lost about 70 lbs she came to me super aggressive one day demanding to know how much weight I had lost (first time she even acknowledged my weight loss). I said I didn’t know (it’s information I just don’t feel comfortable sharing with even my husband) and that I was just going off by my clothing size. She got extremely upset and annoyed I wouldn’t tell her.

We just kept chugging along at the friendship. It felt strained. I’m now 85 lbs down. Two weeks ago we had our falling out. She made it completely unrelated to weight loss, but nothing else had changed. She said she felt different with me. She hasn’t called or texted, when we used to call or text multiple times a day. I refuse to play into the game and haven’t reached out either. I know it’s a two way street, but I’ve noticed she is the kind of friend who is happy when you’re good, she doesn’t want you to be better than her. I’ve noticed this not just with the weight loss, but in other aspects of our friendship: kids, finances, material things, etc. I think the losing weight was just the final straw for her.

I’m sad and feel stupid I didn’t realize what type of BFF I had sooner. Those that have lost friends over weight loss would you say a trait you’ve seen in this friend has been that they want to see you well, not just better than them? (And by see you well, I mean generally in life, not just physically seeing you well/healthier). I’m beginning to think this has to be a character trait of people like this, because why else would they not be genuinely happy for you?

Superfood Saturday: Why You Should Eat More Cherries

Fresh cherries are one of summer’s most-anticipated treats. They’re juicy and delicious, fun to eat one-by-one or to use as an added burst of flavor in many recipes. While you may be able to buy cherries frozen or dried at any time of year, they’re widely available fresh only during summer months.

Cherries are SmartCarbs, which means they’re nutrient-rich, high in fiber and low to medium on the Glycemic Index. You can enjoy a one-cup serving of fresh cherries and still stay on track with your Nutrisystem weight loss plan. That cup of cherries has just 77 calories, 2.5 grams of fiber and about 40 percent of your recommended daily amount for vitamin A.

For more examples of SmartCarbs to add to your diet, click here >

Cherries are known as a “superfood” because they have exceptional health benefits, such as:

Heart Protection

Cherries get their red color from anthocyanin, the same antioxidant found in red wine. It’s linked to reduced inflammation and lower cholesterol.

Managing Blood Pressure

A cup of sweet cherries has about the same amount of potassium as a small banana. Potassium helps balance the fluid levels in our bodies, offsetting the impact sodium has on elevating blood pressure.

Better Sleep

Tart cherries are one of the few foods with a natural supply of melatonin, the compound that helps regulate our sleep and awake cycles.

Easing Aches and Pains

Excessive uric acid in your blood causes swelling, inflammation and soreness. United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) researchers have found that eating fresh sweet cherries lowered the body’s uric acid levels and also reduced C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation.

Reducing Belly Fat

Researchers at the University of Michigan studying weight loss found that rats consuming tart cherries along with a high-fat diet didn’t gain as much weight or build up as much belly fat as rats that didn’t have cherries.

All varieties of cherries offer the benefits listed above, so you can choose those that best match your tastes and needs.

Cherries come in distinct types, with a few variations for you to pick from:

Sweet Red

superfood saturday: cherries

Bing cherries are plump, deep red and almost bursting with crimson-colored juice. They’re the most widely available variety of sweet cherries. Dark Hudson and Lambert are two other common sweet varieties, both of which have very dark skin and firm flesh.

Sweet Yellow

superfood saturday: cherries

Also sweet and juicy, Rainiers have yellowish skin with a pink blush and pale flesh that is more tender than the red types. They’re also milder-tasting. Royal Ann is another popular light-colored variety. Both are available only for a very brief time in summer and in limited quantities throughout most of the U.S.

Tart Red

cherries

Also known as “pie” or “sour” cherries, these varieties are smaller than the sweet types and are brighter red. Tart cherries are most often used in pies and other cooked dishes, though many people do enjoy them fresh, too. Montmorency is the variety typically sold in stores. Morello is a tart cherry that’s slightly sweeter and darker than other varieties.

Frozen

Create a cool and refreshing snack by rinsing sweet cherries and removing the stems, allowing them to dry thoroughly and placing them in a freezer-safe container or bag. Pull a few out on a sweltering day and pop them in your mouth for a fast way to chill out. Frozen cherries also make a great substitute for ice cubes in any drink.
