17M almost two years ago I found this Reddit

I’m 17 found this Reddit almost two years ago now , and thought I’d share my progress some more I had loose skin surgery and posted about it a few months ago , and am currently lean bulking I’m eating about 3700 to 3900 calories right now between 167 to 170 at 6’2 thanks for all the help from this reddit or I wouldn’t’t have found something I loved. It’s kinda of funny a few years ago I hated doing anything other than playing videos games , and I love this reddit for helping me find something that changed my life for better. When I found this reddit I thought I wouldn’t stick with it at first , but then I became addicted to seeing the scale move at first then I started lifting after weight loss. Thanks once again for everything this reddit seriously changed my life for the better.

What’s the weirdest place you’ve noticed your weight loss?

I’m still pretty early in my journey and have a lot to lose (~30/120 lbs), so my overall shape hasn’t changed much yet. Heck, I haven’t even dropped a full pant size (much to my chagrin), although I have had to start wearing a belt.

However, I have started noticing changes in some strange places. For instance, my fingers are still chubby but the backs of my hands aren’t. I can see my knuckles and tendons a lot more clearly. I can also feel my “butt bones” more. And my general pec area seems thinner, though my collarbones have yet to make an appearance.

Anyone else notice weight coming off in unexpected places?

How effective is yoga for weight loss?

Yesterday I officially got back into weight loss mindset, and started my first yoga solo lesson.
I've been following this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQzDFgnyYAo&t=1272s
I always hated most forms of exercise, especially gym workouts, but I feel like yoga may be different. I actually feel the right burn and it is not underwhelming like beginnings at the gym.
However, I noticed that for many people yoga plays no part in their weight loss and that really discourages me. So how effective yoga really is for weight loss?

I'm a 178cm tall male, I weigh 90 kilograms.

Weight loss stagnation (M/21yo/173cm) Help needed, please ! :)

Hello guys, so here's the deal :

I started my weight loss journey on 27/08/2019, and since then I went from 93 Kg/ 205 lbs to 84,9 Kg/ 187,2 lbs. But here's the problem, for the past 3 weeks i've stagnated at this exact same weight and I sincerely I can't come up with any viable explanation.

When it comes to nutrition, my food consumption is as follows :

- Current macros ratio : Carbs : 45% (203g)/ Proteins : 25 % (135g)/ Fat : 25 % (50g).

- 1 cheat day allowed per week : maximum calories consumed during that day : 2400 calories.

- Before, and 1 week after weight stagnation : average of daily intake - around 1600 calories.

- After 1 week of stagnation : average of daily intake - around 1800 calories.

(And yes, i meticulously weight every gram of food i eat using a scale, and also yes i drink plenty of water, and yes my daily sodium consumption is at less 1500mg/day XD ).

Exercise :

- Before, and 1 week after weight stagnation : 40min of cardio (cycling at 27Km/h, with high resistance / 6 days a week) + weightlifting / about 5 days a week.

- After 1 week of stagnation : 20 to 25 min of cardio (cycling at 33Km/h, with high resistance / 6days a week) + weightlifting (new variation of exercises and using heavier weights) / about 5 days a week.

PS : I've taken a couple of refeed days, still the weight marked on the scale wouldn't bulge by a gram.

What is changing in your heart

I have been reading these posts for months now. I see picture after picture posted showing weight loss. It has left me with such ambivalent feelings. As truly happy I am about the pyshical progress others have achieved, I can't help buy think, FOLKS the weight loss is only the beginning of this journey. What has your weight loss done to open your heart! How as it opened the channel to allow whatever Higher Power you have to enter and FEED your soul. For you see, if we do not recognize and honor and nurture those changes the soul possession will not ever end. Soon, we will be "filling" the void with new clothes, collecting Likes on our facebook account, perhaps turning to other substances like alcohol. If we constantly seek this External Validation we will never truly heal from the condition that lead us to this dark place. How about we start posting compassion progress. How do we excercise compassion each day. Is there and app for that? How do we log that? How do we measure that?

Each day that you look inside and connect with your higher self is success.

any experiences with intuitive eating?

Hi there! So long story short, a few months back I went on a calorie deficit and reached my goal weight already (yay!). I tried to always stay around 1200 calories, though sometimes I only reach 700-1000 calories. The weight loss was relatively fast, but a) I was always scared to eat 1200 calories. Instead, I would feel comfortable eating around 700-1000 calories, and b) i was very cautious around food. Eating and feeling full made me feel lowkey guilty, even if it were highly nutritious foods.

I drew a conclusion that strict calorie counting was bad for me, in a sense that, I would beat myself up (mentally) if I had indulged in foods that I considered “bad”, and would think about it the whole day. I wouldn’t label myself as someone having an eating disorder, but I feel like I might be showing a few traits of someone with an eating disorder. Hence, I decided to give intuitive eating a try. I have only done it a few weeks, and so far I have been eating outside a lot and only eating when I feel hungry and stop once I feel full. However, sometimes fear strikes and I thought, “what if this whole thing fails and I gain weight tomorrow?”

In addition, I work as a wait staff. We are provided with food and I couldn’t bother bringing my own lunch or dinner sometimes. I guess, I feel weird eating my own food while everyone else eats the same thing. Also, sometimes we get fancy foods and I would prefer eating them over my own food.

I would like to know your experiences with intuitive eating. Did it fail or work for you? How did you get into it?

Day 1? Starting your weight loss journey on Saturday, 23 November 2019? Start here!

Today is your Day 1?

Welcome to r/Loseit!

So you aren’t sure of how to start? Don’t worry! “How do I get started?” is our most asked question. r/Loseit has helped our users lose over 1,000,000 recorded pounds and these are the steps that we’ve found most useful for getting started.

Why you’re overweight

Our bodies are amazing (yes, yours too!). In order to survive before supermarkets, we had to be able to store energy to get us through lean times, we store this energy as adipose fat tissue. If you put more energy into your body than it needs, it stores it, for (potential) later use. When you put in less than it needs, it uses the stored energy. The more energy you have stored, the more overweight you are. The trick is to get your body to use the stored energy, which can only be done if you give it less energy than it needs, consistently.

Before You Start

The very first step is calculating your calorie needs. You can do that HERE. This will give you an approximation of your calorie needs for the day. The next step is to figure how quickly you want to lose the fat. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. So to lose 1 pound of fat per week you will need to consume 500 calories less than your TDEE (daily calorie needs from the link above). 750 calories less will result in 1.5 pounds and 1000 calories is an aggressive 2 pounds per week.

Tracking

Here is where it begins to resemble work. The most efficient way to lose the weight you desire is to track your calorie intake. This has gotten much simpler over the years and today it can be done right from your smartphone or computer. r/loseit recommends an app like MyFitnessPal, Loseit! (unaffiliated), or Cronometer. Create an account and be honest with it about your current stats, activities, and goals. This is your tracker and no one else needs to see it so don’t cheat the numbers. You’ll find large user created databases that make logging and tracking your food and drinks easy with just the tap of the screen or the push of a button. We also highly recommend the use of a digital kitchen scale for accuracy. Knowing how much of what you're eating is more important than what you're eating. Why? This may explain it.

Creating Your Deficit

How do you create a deficit? This is up to you. r/loseit has a few recommendations but ultimately that decision is yours. There is no perfect diet for everyone. There is a perfect diet for you and you can create it. You can eat less of exactly what you eat now. If you like pizza you can have pizza. Have 2 slices instead of 4. You can try lower calorie replacements for calorie dense foods. Some of the communities favorites are cauliflower rice, zucchini noodles, spaghetti squash in place of their more calorie rich cousins. If it appeals to you an entire dietary change like Keto, Paleo, Vegetarian.

The most important thing to remember is that this selection of foods works for you. Sustainability is the key to long term weight management success. If you hate what you’re eating you won’t stick to it.

Exercise

Is NOT mandatory. You can lose fat and create a deficit through diet alone. There is no requirement of exercise to lose weight.

It has it’s own benefits though. You will burn extra calories. Exercise is shown to be beneficial to mental health and creates an endorphin rush as well. It makes people feel awesome and has been linked to higher rates of long term success when physical activity is included in lifestyle changes.

Crawl, Walk, Run

It can seem like one needs to make a 180 degree course correction to find success. That isn’t necessarily true. Many of our users find that creating small initial changes that build a foundation allows them to progress forward in even, sustained, increments.

Acceptance

You will struggle. We have all struggled. This is natural. There is no tip or trick to get through this though. We encourage you to recognize why you are struggling and forgive yourself for whatever reason that may be. If you overindulged at your last meal that is ok. You can resolve to make the next meal better.

Do not let the pursuit of perfect get in the way of progress. We don’t need perfect. We just want better.

Additional resources

Now you’re ready to do this. Here are more details, that may help you refine your plan.
