My 315 to 172lb weight loss journey UPDATED

Hello all,

7 years ago I made a post on my weight loss journey and I just wanted to give an update and ask any questions for anyone that is struggling or losing weight at the moment

As you can see I have kept the weight off, and after 13 years of losing it I will not lie, I have had fluctuations of going up past 200lbs and losing it all again to gaining it back. I have had seen the highs and seen then lows of this journey and have tried all the diets and fads out there.

The problem with using your phone to log your weight-loss journey

Hi, 16F here (5.3ft-163cm and 123lbs-56.2kg). I fall into a healthy weight range, but my weight loss journey goal is to lose body fat and gain muscle.

Recently I’ve been using an app called ‘LifeSum’ and it’s great for any CICO dieters (even the free version is good), and browsing this reddit for tips and motivation.

TRIGGER WARNING (B.E.D)

As someone who suffers from binge eating disorder, I’ve been working really hard to break my bad relationship with food and my unhealthy coping mechanism of binge eating. I’m an avid youtube watcher like most people, but I’ve noticed I’m getting a tonne (like a LOT) of ads on my videos for either fast food, or those types of videos that tell you: “you don’t need to eat well or workout to loose weight if you follow my tips!!!1!!!”

Obviously it’s cookies just doing its job, but it’s pretty triggering for me, and also tempting.

I’m on junior minimum wage, so I’m spending majority of my money on LifeSum, so youtube premium isn’t an option. Because I’m on my phone, AdBlock and VPN (waaaay too glitchy on iPhone) isn’t an option.

I understand that exposure and resistance to temptation is part of weight loss, but it’s uncomfortable to have your cravings encouraged by advertisers.

What are your opinions and/or tips?

How to not get discouraged by slow progress?

I started last July at 185lbs (5’2, 22F) and am currently at 160lbs. I lost ~10lbs between July and December and the last 15 or so between December and now. My goal weight is 135lbs.

My weight loss has slowed down as I recently quit an active job and am just not moving as much as I was when I was working. I’m generally eating around 1400 calories a day, but exact calorie counting triggers some of my disordered eating behaviors.

I’m still losing weight but it’s not as quick as I would like it to be. I know that I’m losing at a healthy rate but it’s so hard to not be discouraged when the scale is moving so slowly. I weigh myself everyday and use HappyScale to track my progress.

I don’t really want to lose faster, because the way I’m eating and exercising is sustainable for me, I just want to be comfortable with the amount I’m losing.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Feeling so guilty about my cheat day

6 months ago i decided to lost weight,since then i lost 64 lbs and i never did cheat days or meals.I need to lost around 10-15 lbs more but yesterday i have decided to do cheat day(around 6000-8000 calories maybe more).Today i am feeling extremely guilty,i feel like i am fat again with my big belly.Everyone on weight loss/bodybuilding forums says ''dont do cheat days you can get fat again'' or ''it ruins your whole progress''.I wasnt feeling so guilty until reading all this stuff,but right now i feel so terrible and i feel like i gained so much weight.How i can reverse the effects of my cheat day ? and are cheat days really that bad ?

Weight loss while stuck at home. Advice needed!

Hi guys!

I’m stuck at home from college because of COVID-19 and I’ve found it extremely difficult to eat well. Today, for instance, I’ve eaten 4,900 calories (batch of cookies, yogurt and granola, ice cream, peanut butter, Spanish omelette, chocolate, etc). There seems to be nothing to do but cook and eat and nothing to look forward to. At school, I successfully eat 1,500-2,500 kcal/day but that is helped by limited hours for dining halls.

Here, with unlimited delicious food around and nothing to do, I’ve struggled. The difficulty is not nutritious, low calorie food available. I have much of that and my family prioritizes health. To me, it seems habitual and I make promises most mornings to eat differently but just can’t resist. It’s a cycle of snacking, then meals, then making food for fun. My mom cooks delicious, healthy food (loves ottolenghi and Jerusalem cookbooks) which are hard to resist, as well as the social aspect of meals, even if I’ve gone a wild amount over my daily calories. I often drink tea but it does not effectively distract. I can tell my guilty energy In the kitchen, our social gathering point, stresses out my family too.

How do I continue losing weight during this strange, strange period? I’m sure others are struggling too.

Any advice gladly appreciated.

Met my mini-goal, can't reap the benefits yet but feel good!

My mini goal was to lose 20 lbs by my spring break vacation to Universal Studios and be able to wear all the summer outfits that didn't quite fit me and I didn't feel comfortable in. I started doing strict CICO with about a 1500 calorie budget as well as working out more in January. I got home two days ago after reaching that goal and tried on all of my shorts and vacation shirts and they fit me better than they ever have before, I was SO excited to show them off on vacation!

And then COVID-19 happened and my trip got cancelled. It's for the best and for everyone's health and safety, but I'm bummed I won't be able to show off my weight loss yet. BUT we were able to reschedule the trip for May, so just imagine how much weight I'll have lost by then! I'll have to have bought all NEW clothes. Keep the faith and stay healthy folks!
